The T-Rex scene looks by far the most realistic because it’s night time and the rain plus splicing in actual practical effects really sells it. It’s extremely difficult to do perfect CGI in very bright settings where you can see every imperfection

There is a lot of Magick in the film and especially that scene which was something very new and spectacular in '93 as mentioned. You also have the cinematography and scale to add to that. As mentioned here, this movie and even the reactions to it, never fails to bring a tear of joy and happiness, as well as awesomeness when watching.

I always love how people are surprised at how awesome the dinosaurs look for 1993--that they look better than most things nowadays. Now imagine what this was like in 1993, when there was nothing of the same caliber to compare it to! The t-rex scene is absolutely a masterpiece. Meanwhile, your reaction to the triceratops' poop scene did not disappoint! "Have ya'll seen the Lion King?" No, they haven't. It came out a year later. ^_^

Saw this in theatre and as said, the sound and the huge screen, that is so hard to replicate on a small screen. It doesn't have that same effect but that said, it still is incredible regardless of the size of screen or sound system.

On release the speakers would shake the theater. I saw it again some years ago during a theatrical rerelease, but somehow the sound was quieter with a more advanced sound system. It was a little disappointing. And this wasn’t childhood nostalgia making things seem different than they originally were. I’m 58, and I was an adult when this came out the first time.

This movie came out when I was 3. I watched it so many times in VHS and tv growing up. It's incredible and has always had a place in my heart. During the covid lockdown, all the summer movies were postponed and pushed back, so our local theatre started showing old classics all summer long. I cannot put into words how, in spite of how many times I'd watched this movie growing up, there is nothing that can compare to seeing this on the big screen. Completely unforgettable.

Most of it was real. Only about 30% was CGI. THE T-Rex was completely practical and was controlled by like 20 puppeteers at once! The Triceratops was real too. There's a pic of Spielberg posing on top of it. Crazy good! 😊

I know it was bred out of necessity because CGI was so difficult and expensive, but, damn, if the balance wasn't just right.

Lost In Adaptation Fact: The Mr. DNA (Greg Burson) cartoon was Steven Spielberg's way of condensing much of the novel's exposition into a few minutes. Practical Over CGI Fact: What made this movie the groundbreaking flick that we know today, was the use of Practical Effects with CGI mixed in. If this movie was made today, CGI would have been used for everything and it wouldn't have looked good. Self Insert Fact: Michael Crichton said that his views on science and genetic engineering are largely expressed by Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum). Steven Spielberg saw many parallels to himself in the character of John Hammond (Richard Attenborough). Fittingly, Spielberg cast a fellow filmmaker in the role, who begins his tour of the park by showing a movie in which he also acts. While Malcolm is dressed entirely in black, Hammond wears all white. Not The Virus Fact: The guests' encounter with the sick Triceratops ends without any clear explanation as to why the animal is sick. Michael Crichton's original novel and the screenplay, however, include an explanation: the Stegosaurus/Triceratops lacked suitable teeth for grinding food, and so, like birds, would swallow rocks and use them as gizzard stones. In the digestive tract, these rocks would grind the food to aid in digestion. After six weeks, the rocks would become too smooth to be useful, and the animal would regurgitate them. When finding and eating new rocks to use, the animal would also swallow West Indian Lilac berries. The fact that the berries and stones are regurgitated explains why traces of them are not found in the animal's excrement.

Better than MOST....IF NOT ALL CGI ....TODAY! it's either ABUSE or OVERUSE. I heard someone say that CGI TODAY is like a "fireworks show" I thought: PERFECT WAY TO PUT IT! Ridiculous, over the top, EXAGGERATED SPECIAL EFFECTS that might be fun at the movies but doesn't make you want to watch it AGAIN. Not me at least. Jurassic WORLD for example. Only saw the first movie at the movies. Didn't feel like watching it again. And haven't bothered to see the next 2 films. Because I thought the CGI was "OVER THE TOP" , The "texture " / "lighting " , making the dinosaurs look almost like "holograms " in my eyes And......EXAGGERATED MOVEMENTS for animals of their size! (Indominus Rex, dinosaur duel, the mosasaurus.....) 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮 Moving like they don't weigh an OZ. Unlike the original trilogy, I've seen them THOUSANDS OF TIMES....LITERALLY! And never get bored. I remember the trailer had the one-liner "Hold onto your butts" that got me into the theatres. I remember walking in thinking the TRex was the greatest dinosaur then after the movie, the Velociraptor was king! I love Hammond saying he "spared no expense" except when it came to security, personnel and hurricane proofing. Excellent reaction and editing, it's such an excellent film. I was 7 years old and it's all I talked about for years after. I had a bunch of the toys, read the novels, knew all the trivia. I saw this in the theater when I was 4 years old. I was born October 1988. I was obsessed with dinosaurs. I was teaching adults about dinosaurs. By third grade I was telling people how to say the word Archaeopteryx. When my mom was asked if I was old enough to see this movie, she didn't respond in time. I did. I said, and I quote, "Dinosaurs are dead, silly!" The following birthday and Christmas I got so many Jurassic Park toys and I had so much fun for so many years!

Well, technically Ghostbusters wasn't CGI (Computer Generated Images), those were old fashioned VFX thrown together in a ridiculously short turnaround time. They'd send test shots to Ivan Reitman for feedback and he'd say "good enough, it's in the movie". They wanted to go back and redo them but there wasn't time, which is why there's a lot of shots that don't look great even for 1984 (like some of the Stay Puft scenes). If I remember right Jurassic Park is a combination of CGI, VFX compositing, and stop motion miniatures (not that I'm an expert on any of those, I just enjoy all those "making of" documentaries 😅).

I do remember seeing a Making of Jurassic Park special on TV back in 1994, I vividly remember the animatronic T-Rex being worked on. Absolutely groundbreaking stuff. I wish I'd seen it in a cinema instead of on TV.

The fact that Spielberg directed "Jurassic Park" while making "Schindler's List" is a testament to his creativity and genius. He also teamed with one of my favorite composers John Williams one again for the main score which they worked together for the main score for Spielberg's 1975 "Jaws" film. Williams also composed the score for "Star Wars" which is all 3 movies have a similar unassuming jovial sound despite the thilling and menacing nature of the action. Great reaction ❤

I saw this on opening night in 1993 and I literally teared up during the brachiosaurus introduction. I couldn't believe what I was seeing - A REAL DINOSAUR! My all time favourite film. Every time I watch it, I’m transported back in time to 1993, being seven years old and seeing it for the first time, and that Brachiosaurus comes on screen and it’s just magical. It feels so possible. Fun fact: while filming in Hawaii they got hit by a devastating hurricane, so the waves you see from the storm were from the hurricane. While taking shelter before it hit Steve Spielberg said go out and get some shots. There is a storm stories episode about it.

Great reaction, and you’re 100% right about it being a secret horror movie. I went and saw this twice on opening weekend. It was absolutely mind-blowing to see those dinosaurs on the big screen, and it’s wild how well the effects hold up. Spielberg took a risk using CG, and it absolutely paid off.

The novel is decidedly less secret about being horror. I think J would be big mad with that one pretty early on. He’d probably have some “shut up!” moments even just reading prose.

I went to see this in the theater with a group of friends. One of the girls screamed so loud and kicked the seat in front of her super hard during the Dilophosaurus scene. She made sure to stay and apologize to the people in front of her after XD. Great reaction to a favorite of so many.

A buddy of mine and I saw this in the theater when we were 17. When the lawyer was eaten sitting on the toilet I accidentally blurted out that he died on the throne like Elvis. Had everyone sitting near us cracking up. Great memories.

Most of the employees evacuated because of the storm so not as many people as you thought got killed. This is one that I tear up in several scenes. The first shot of the dinosaurs always gets me. This one never gets old and is still the best of all the Jurassic movies. They are all good though....even the 3rd one, which everybody hates. One of the best shots of all time is in the 2nd one...I'll wait for you to watch that one. Such a great reaction...so many great jumps. I was only gonna watch my favorite scenes....and I ended up watching every minute...Great job!

I was six when it came out. I tried watching it in the theater with my dad but I had to leave early because it was too scary. I've seen it as an adult now, of course, and can handle it now. The first "scary" movie (at least by my standards as a kid) that I sat through all the way was Twister three years later.

I was 7 years old when this movie came out. At the time I was Gung Ho for dinosaurs. So when mom told me she got us tickets to go see it, I was overjoyed. Despite having nightmares for a few nights after seeing it in theaters, WORTH IT!

This is one of the greatest movies of all time. The special effects in this movie are still better than 98 percent of the crap put out today. It took a 4k screen resolution and a stupid effect called motion interpolation or the soap opera effect to even recognize the green/blue screen work. The soap opera effect, or motion interpolation makes everything look ultra focused by adding in additional frames to reduce blur, but what it really does is make everything look like it is filmed with green screen background.

The fossil that Dr Grant located in Montana is the Archaeopteryx, the transitional fossil of early dinosaurs to modern dinosaurs (birds). If you look at birds today, you will notice the feet resemble early dinosaurs. You will notice similarities to birds of prey as well as flightless birds such as the cassowary (this is one of the most dangerous birds).

Since that day, I have seen this many times and the scene where Alan sees the first dinosaur still makes me happy. I remember the cinema was so quiet when this scene came on, everyone was in shock by what we all saw. There is was, a "real" dinosaur right infront of us. Fun fact: the dinosaur that spat poisonous venom and the vibrating frill was the famous Dilophosaurus! To pronounce (Die- loaf-uh-saur-us) however the real animal did not have the frill or spit venom, it was much larger than the movie shows, it’s real counterpart was at least 10 feet tall and 20 feet long, the meaning of dilophosaurus means “double crested lizard”. This has been fun facts!

I think the original idea was for the Dilophosaurus in the movie to be a juvenile (hence the playful attitude it showed at first). They later changed it so that all of them were that size.

56:58 - in the novel, Mr. Arnold went to the maintenance shed but since the lights were all out and he forgot to bring a flashlight he initially propped the door open with his shoe. Well, when he walked by the velociraptor paddock they noticed him and later escaped and entered the maintenance shed through the propped door. We see his severed arm but there was actually a severed leg prop that Ellie Sattler was intended to trip over (that's why she's limping). In fact there was supposed to be an entire death scene of Mr. Arnold but due to Hurricane Iniki that would ravage the island in a couple days the scene was never filmed and cut.

I was 19yrs old when this came out and this was a real treat to me. i grew up loving dinosaurs, collecting dinosaur toys and such, and used to watch Land of the Lost. Needless to say, those dinosaurs from the 70's looked like sock puppets compared to what Jurassic Park pulled off. There was nothing like seeing this on the big screen too.

Being a kid that watched The Land Before Time, rewound it, and watched it again, over and over and over, this movie absolutely blew my mind in 1993 and it holds up incredibly well. I was fortunate enough to have a theater in my area that was able to play it on the 25th anniversary of its release, so I got to relive that first theatrical viewing; lemme tell ya, if you ever get that chance you HAVE TO TAKE IT. Part of the reason everything looks so good is because they hit a great balance of practical effects being used whenever possible and CGI to cover the shots that just couldn't be done any other way; and that CGI still looks pretty damn good 30 years later. Aside from that, I think this movie just hits all the right notes and has a great blend of relatively believable science fiction elements and the action/thriller elements at all the right moments. The book is considerably different, but I think this is a great adaptation of the overall story. The Lost World is clearly the second-best in the franchise and I personally don't think it's that far behind this original release. It retains a lot of the same factors that make this movie great, but expands the story quite a bit. There's some good exploration of the morality of what InGen does in the movie, way more dinos than before, and some great action sequences. The rest are at least worth a watch I suppose (with the possible exception of Jurassic World: Dominion; that shit was just terrible), but the first two are really the only ones that I ever have any desire to go back to on occasion. A timeless movie and a great reaction to go alongside it, JL! You had me crackin' up quite a few times with your commentary and of course your flinches with the jump-scares 🤣🤣

I saw this at seven in theaters and was enraptured by it. It was incredible. Even today, the special effects stand up which is a testament to the skill of the crew. Those were cutting edge CGI graphs for some of those scenes and still better than some seen today.

I never thought of Jurassic Park as a comedy, but J's reactions had me howling with laughter the entire time! So glad you enjoyed the film. It's a classic for a reason: everyone making it had a genuine love for dinosaurs and wanted to do the impossible and make them "real." They used everything from suitmation (guys in costumes, ala Godzilla), animatronics, and CGI, and it succeeded on every level. Blank, you should do a compilation video of all of J's jump scares. There are some golden ones in this reaction that need to be included as well. As the guy in Robocop said "I'd buy that for a dollar." Keep up the great work, guys! You are consistently the best show, on KZbin or anywhere else, that has been my pleasure to watch.

My family went and watched this movie opening weekend I believe. I was 4, about to turn 5 in a couple weeks. When the Trex smashed in the glass over the kids me and one of my brothers got so scared we turned around and watched the rest of the movie by looking at the image playing on the glass pane that was separating the projector booth from the screen. It was a lot less scary when they were like 3 inches tall.

Great reaction! This was my first PG-13 movie. I was 5 years old!! I remember being terrified when they kids were in the kitchen; felt trapped inside with them. That being said, I loved it. I’ve never seen CGI like this so early on in its existence. They literally made dinosaurs come back to life in my eyes. It was like watching magic for the first time. Cheers man! Saw this movie in the theater when I was 7. Absolutely loved it. Even given the fact that there was an actual thunderstorm that rolled through after I'd gone to bed that night. I spent half the night peeking out from under the covers at my window, just waiting to see the silhouette of a Raptor standing there. And then I still went and saw the movie in the theater 8 more times. There is just simply no way to adequately describe what a leap forward this movie was in visual effects at the time. No one had ever seen creatures on this scale that could pass as being real. Couple that with the fact that the rest of the movie, and especially the soundtrack, is fantastic and it's no wonder why this movie became a global phenomenon.

I remember back in 3rd grade (2008 for me) my friends and I endlessly talked about this movie. There were some kids in class whose parents didn’t let them watch obviously, and nowadays I can definitely understand why, but at the time I remember those kids who couldn’t watch always wanted details about scenes from the movie lol. All this time later, I can still watch this movie and love it as much now as I did then. Truly one of the greatest movies ever made.
