Add according to an interview done with Conan O'Brien about the movie the first time Tom Cruise was in character with the full Prosthetics, Ben Stiller nearly wet himself from laughing. And you will never think about the song Apple Bottom Jeans the same way ever again without referring back to this movie. And the end credit scene was hysterical for the simple reason that they shot it with no music and only added the Ludacris song during post-production and after they got the okay to use it. And in my opinion it was a perfect fit

"Man, I don't drop character 'till I done the DVD commentary." Fun Fact: When recording the audio commentary for the Unrated DVD and Blu-ray, Robert Downey, Jr. actually spends the entire commentary in the character that appears on the screen as the movie progresses. Historical Fact: The South East Asian gang Flaming Dragon, led by a pre-teen boy, was modeled after God's Army, a guerrilla army in Myanmar. The group was led by twin brothers Johnny Htoo and Luther Htoo, who were nine years old when it was founded in 1997. Johnny and Luther Htoo were fond of American action movie heroes, especially the Rambo franchise. Cruise Unbound Fact: Ben Stiller said nearly all aspects of the Les Grossman character were developed by Tom Cruise, including the dancing and the look of the make-up. Stiller said that in addition to the more obvious make-up effects applied to Cruise's face and head, and the extra hair on his chest and arms, Cruise also decided to play the character wearing oversized prosthetic hands.

The moment when Downey became Australian at the end, I knew he did a phenomenal job because I immediately missed and grew attacked to his black Sargent character. Like, a lot. It was like at the end of White Chicks when the girls tell the undercover cops they know now the white girls they pretended to play aren't real, but they were real to them, bonded and miss them so the cops go into character again to give the girls closure. The only difference is White Chicks required a suspension of disbelief whereas Downey actually looked, sounded, totally disappeared into the part. He's crazy talented, mad acting skills. I kept laughing, going, 'But, that's Tony Stark.'

I'm really sad I missed the premiere, but this was great!!! RDJ was actually nominated for an Oscar for this role and lost to Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight. The funniest part is the role was making fun of actors who go to extremes to play roles that are not for them but if they call it art, Hollywood would embrace them. So the fact he was nominated for this role blew his mind that...Hollywood didn't get the joke. And then he lost to a clown. Best Oscar's story I randomly know.

@MeurikTV that's just what is deemed fan legend. He was an addict for a long time and had been either taking advantage of the lack of proper care or suffered at the lack of proper care. Pharmacies should communicate pickups. He died with an outrageous mix of meds from multiple doctors that weren't even seeing him. The role didn't kill him. He had an underlying addiction that had already put him on a path to death. It was just a matter of when. It is very tragic. Heath died before he won his Oscar, but it wasn't the role that killed him. Please be more responsible and hold those proven responsible responsible so that others do not follow.

47:49 The sheer joy on this man's face. Saw this movie way back when it was in theaters, and I thought Les Grosman looked a lot like Tom Cruise, but I mentally convinced myself that there was no possible way and it was not until his second appearance in the movie and somebody near the front of the theater said loud as could be "I swear that is Tom Cruise!" that it was cemented for me. I saw Tom as being way too serious an actor and person to ever play a role like Les. I was wrong, and I don't mind, because this character was pure enjoyment. People who dislike this movie are horrible people. You should not be friends with them.

I made my girlfriend sit down and watch one of your reactions(gladiator) with me and she was in stitches the whole time. We both have seen the movie a million times, but you make it a completely different viewing experience with your humor. Also, your editing is perfect. You show a great balance of the movie to get us sucked in, but also the commentary that we are here for.

I agree this is one of Tom Cruise’s best performances! This movie is controversial to this day because of RDJ’s blackface but I think people who get comedy get it (I’m Black btw). A lot of reaction watchers don’t seem to know who Lance Bass is so that’s awesome that you caught that cameo. This movie came out shortly after he did so it was even more funny at the time that Booty Sweat’s dream guy Lance is actually Lance Bass lol.

I disagree with all the controversy. I think blackface should refer specifically to the exaggerated makeup people used to use to make fun of and hurt black people. They would paint their face literally black, not brown. Going for an accurate depiction non-maliciously shouldn't be called blackface. The conflation of these two things is a somewhat recent invention, with this movie being an example. When this came out it was unusual and funny, but it wasn't a controversy. It seems like we're going backwards.

@@JWar- To be fair, I've never actually seen a person upset about RDJ in this movie in real life. I'm starting to 100% ignore anything I read online unless it correlates ever so slightly with what I see in real life.

LOL No it isn't. This is a movie that people who want to whine about political correctness like to point to, but there was no controversy about this at the time and there still isn't now.

Love this movie, and RDJ was amazing. But it seemed to me (personally) that his character portrayal bothered a lot more white people than black people. Just a personal impression.

"What movie is that?" The movie with the guy facing towards you with arms out like that. Although the pose is slightly different, the one you are thinking of is Platoon. In that, the guy has his arms up while looking upwards. It has been parodied a bunch of times though so you probably have seen people with their arms out like that as well.

"Platoon" is the movie where the guy is running from the gunfire with his arms in the air. Huge hit. Worth a reaction. "Tropic Thunder" is the best war movie, though. It blows the hands off of other war movies!

The scene at the beginning, where Ben Stiller is being shot while running towards the plane is a clip referring to a scene from the film Platoon, which was played by William Defoe

"Why they got these guns when they aint got no bullets?" They're still real guns, they're just loaded with blanks (assuming they haven't fired them all). That means they can pick up live ammunition (if they can find some of the right type) and load their guns with real bullets. Also, you can clock the shit outta someone with an empty gun.
