So many great details you only pick up after watching again. Took me a bit to realize Alan Grant trying to buckle himself in in the helicopter with two "female" belt buckles, then twisting them together, was foreshadowing. One of my all time favs.

39:01 That cracks me up every time I see that. Dr. Grant kicking over the ladder, as if the ladder was going to be used by the raptor's. I'm imagining the raptor, attempting to take really shaky steps up the ladder, getting all frustrated every time they fall back on their asses after a step or 2.

The fact that Spielberg directed "Jurassic Park" while making "Schindler's List" is a testament to his creativity and genius. He also teamed with one of my favorite composers John Williams once again for the main score which they worked together for the main score for Spielberg's 1975 "Jaws" film. Williams also composed the score for "Star Wars" which is all why all 3 movies have a similar unassuming jovial sound despite the thilling and menacing nature of the action. Great reaction ❤

I love how they used modern object and animal sounds to make the dinosaur's sounds. Adult raptors: Tortoise mating call, walrus chest cavity roar, angry goose hiss and dolphin scream recorded underwater Baby raptors: Owlets (baby owls), kits (baby foxes) Gallimimus: Female horse in heat Brachiosaurus: Donkey, whale breathing through its blowhole mixed with an active fire hydrant Dilophosaurus: Hawk, swan, rattlesnake and howler monkey Tyrannosaurus rex: Dog playing with rope toy, elephant calf squeal, an alligator's gurgling vocalizations, a tiger's snarl Triceratops: Cow, human breathing through a tube

@lordwalker712 жыл бұрын
The storm wasn’t originally in the script but they filmed in Hawaii and it was hit by a hurricane which destroyed some of the sets so they wrote it into the movie, the cast and crew had to hold up in their hotel during the storm and apparently Spielberg stayed up playing games with the kids to keeps their minds off the storm. The scene where the plexiglass roof of the SUV falls on the kids wasn’t supposed to happen but the T-Rex malfunctioned and pushed down too hard on the roof so that was the kids genuine reaction because they weren’t expecting it. I noticed this year that when the T-Rex is on its side of the paddock the ground seems to be the same level as the side the vehicles are in but then it pushes the SUV over the concrete at the bottom of the fence and there is a huge drop so really we shouldn’t have been able to see the T-Rex in full height.
@lemonyfinger2 жыл бұрын
If you look up the T. rex’s paddock layout it shows that the part of the fence the T. rex broke out and the part of the fence the car got pushed over are two different areas
@thickerconstrictor9037 Жыл бұрын
The storm was in the script but the hurricane shots weren't planned. The cliff in the rex paddock is explained online. The glass breaking was in the script but it wasn't supposed to break and almost hit them. It was supposed to collapse in on them but the glass actually broke in half which wasn't planned.

There are some excellent docs about the making of this that cover the sound mixing, the practical/computer effects perfect blending, and stories of a waterlogged, malfunctioning Land-Jaws that sent half the cast and crew running for the exits, screaming in terror every time it short circuited and started moving all by itself. And Sam Jackson was indeed a role, but just a "bit" role. Terrible pun intended. Lastly, not only was the music by John Williams (who also did star wars) the CGI was developed by ILM, that's headed by George Lucas...he and Spielberg were friends. Not surprising it has a star warsie feeling. Also did you notice the footprints of the raptors are identical to the baby footprints Grant pointed out earlier?

The dinosaurs were created with groundbreaking computer-generated imagery by Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) and with life-sized animatronic dinosaurs built by Stan Winston's team. To showcase the film's sound design, which included a mixture of various animal noises for the dinosaur roars, Spielberg invested in the creation of DTS, a company specializing in digital surround sound formats. The film also underwent an extensive $65 million marketing campaign, which included licensing deals with over 100 companies.

Fun facts eh? How about how the t rex was never supposed to break through the sun roof and only did so because the t rex malfunctioned. Those kids screams were genuine screams of terror haha. Or how the rain messed with the t rex so that it was moving around between sets freaking out the crew members cause no one was controlling it
@terogates12 жыл бұрын
Also if that’s plexiglas that must have been extremely painful to hold up for the kids considering how heavy that stuff it
@thickerconstrictor9037 Жыл бұрын
That's only partially true. The T-Rex was supposed to break through the roof but the glass wasn't supposed to break down the middle. The glass was absolutely supposed to collapse in on them but due to a cracking down the middle it almost hit them which it would not have done if it had just collapsed as intended

Watch the whole franchise right up to dominion only just released. The first one I saw in the movie theater with my parents. You were amazed at the cgi even from today's standards. Back when this was new no one knew cgi really. This waz a giant leap ahead and the gasps from the audience when they first saw the brachiosauras in the first scene of a Dino I still remember.
@chrismullero8244 Жыл бұрын
i even like it more then todays cgi. there is an article on the internet why it looks so real. one reason was spielbergs picture composition and the lightening and how he carefully chooses whats in the picture. if you watch the new films, you see that the composition is overloaded with things, with army, with more dinosaurs, while spielberg just shows the two actors, a few tree, filming from below so that the brontosaurs looks even bigger. I mean, you just see that its not totally meant for animation. they stucked people into some smaller ones who had to learn how to move and run like those things. the big rex is half animated (again very wisely choosed in wich situations and light conditions) and half mechatronic. It was a real moving thing. You wouldnt see this in a todays movie, because there are just a few directors who get the time for such art. Maybe cameron, spielberg, peter jackson maybe. In the last jurassic park movies i was not buying it, the fact that it could be real. It seemed unrealistic. I know the cgi is better nowerdays, but something about this stll tells me its a well done computer game rather then a movie.
@evanirvana500 Жыл бұрын
@Chris Mullero essentially less was more. A lesson modern day directors can't get as they throw everything thry can into their movies, clutter if you ask me. Simplicity sells the message better

The entire scene with Mr. DNA cut a lot of information out, the book goes into more detail and explains the scientific process much better. The reason why it sounds so believable is because the process of cloning is real, it's just not easy to clone animals that are born from eggs. The only animals that have successfully been cloned have been live-born, like most mammals. In fact, anyone interested in the science of cloning should check out the movie (or preferably the book) "The Boys From Brazil." It's about the "supposed" cloning of Adolf Hitler using infamous Nazi scientist Dr. Mengele's research. Despite how inhumane the doctor was and how insane his experiments were, his research is what lead to the eventual cloning of plants and animals. Some of the animals that scientists have been cloning for the last several decades have been to prevent possible extinctions of endangered species. It's a fascinating subject for anyone interested.

The sound for the dinosaurs come from normal animals, certain effects using a subwoofer altering them… They actually have a book that explains a lot of this as well as this behind the scenes section on the DVDs 13:26 not just mosquitoes they even found ways to abstract DNA from the dinosaur bones themselves 24:03 just a little reminder all of the dinosaurs here are female… Well, almost The mixture between animatronics and digital animation was perfect without the animatronics the CGI would look fake… That was the trouble for the other movies at least. Truth be told they weren't bad but it just didn't give the illusion of them being actually real like the first movie or the second or third
