The genius of this is that they included a T.Rex chase at the beginning so you would be basically guaranteed to see the T. Rex even on one credit. Then they made the final boss a rematch. Growing up I of course never got to the end, but I relived that opening chase sequence over and over.

Well, you're somewhat right, but not really. There is no way 1 person can make over 10 sprites using only 32 bits, most 32 bit games like this one use this technique called "Image to Pixel converter", only works on graphics 32x and above, so most of the enemies in this game were hand drawn first, then converted to pixels

I just love the idea that, canonically, you're using tranquilizer rifles in this game, despite all the shit that gets blown up by said guns. Like Dr. Hammond was sitting there discussing the budget for the park and said: "Make sure we put aside a sizable portion of the budget for tranquilizer guns, in case of emergency. And the tranquilizer we use should be powerful enough to take down a tyrannosaurus rex." "Yes, sir, we'll get right on -- " "And strong enough to blow open cage doors, blow up oil barrels, break apart giant rolling boulders, and make abandoned park jeeps explode." "...Sir, when are we EVER going to need to blow up -- " "Did I STUTTER?"
@BirdmanDeuce263 жыл бұрын
It gets better; in the book, Hammond, contrary to his image of “sparing no expense”, was actually an enormous tightwad and cut corners every place he could. Muldoon, the park’s game warden, had argued for rocket launcher tranquilizers (apparently that’s a thing) and lethal weaponry exceeding .50 cal to put down these enormous beasts if needed, but was shut down; in the end, he only managed to procure 2 launchers for the entire park. THIS game is what would’ve happened if Muldoon got his way!

This game was my childhood. I am sad that so many of these rides were never properly maintained and thus slowly fell into disrepair over the years. I feel lucky to have played these machines while they were still in peak condition. The bumps and feedback were everything to this game. If any of these machines have survived, I hope they found good homes.

But I always found the mix of 2D and 3D objects in this game to look so fascinating, and how fast paced of the game was, and the amount of dinosaurs attacking you at once, if only the difficulty was much easier. I keep coming back to this video, from time to time. It's absolutely wired to the moon. Favourite bits have to be the triceratops herd all turning to charge at you; driving a jeep right up a brachiosaur's tail, up it's back and all the way to it's head; and the log bridge built _in a pool of lava._

@edfreak90016 жыл бұрын
This game is cool but it's also really mean if you stop to examine it. The first threat in the game is guarenteed damage unless you've gone so far as to memorize the movements the T-Rex's head will make to stun it before it can bite.
@edfreak90016 жыл бұрын
Also I don't know if it was just an old revision or something but when I played this at a Chuck. E. Cheese, the final battle glitched where part of the way through the fight it showed us getting to the escape gate, and then our movement stopped... but the T-Rexes kept running in place, if they ever fell to the ground they'd fly back until they got up again. And I swear when we beat them, the T-Rex fell down and zipped away into the horizon as if we were supposed to be driving away from it.
@tokyohanamura6 жыл бұрын
