I thought Jurassic world was very bland. I wasn’t invested in any of the characters and the action scenes ultimately just lacked any sort of tension or excitement. From what Mark said this one sounds slightly more interesting but still not that bothered about it

Ruined by the marketing... The first trailer was perfect, dinosaurs escpaing the island, people assuming that this was the main crux of the film... Shoulda left it there, but no! Show all the second act in the house, even giving away potential thrilling scenes in the 2nd and 3rd trailers! Plus showing literally the last scene of the movie! -

The problem with the film is that everything you can really say with this concept was said in Jurassic park 25 years ago. What else can you do? You have to come up with increasingly contrived ways to make dinosaurs escape and attack people, and at the end of it you only have what happened in the first film, but in a more overblown way.

Saw it last night, enjoyed it overall. There were some cheesy moments. Kinda like how they got the big epic stuff outta the way in the first half, and the second half being a b-movie, haunted house mash-up with elements of Taken and the Hostel flicks. Plus, that pier scene when the boat leaves, made my Missus genuinely cry.

I saw Jurassic Park when I was 12 years old. I remember two things vividly even now - all I really saw before seeing the film was the poster which was the most iconic thing I had ever seen and the film was one of the darkest I had seen at that time. Jump to Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom, and it is not just the park that is in the past - it is films being made like Jurassic Park was. I love the film, from the action of the first half to the gothic horror of the second. I don't get scared by films so i never expect that - ask a ten year old how scary this is and you might get a different answer. The opening of the film could possibly have come from the original - but look at it, rain at night...lots and lots of rain. It is sometimes the setting of a scene that is just as important as what happens in it and this is a case in point. For me there wasn't really any drag in the film, the 2 hours plus passed very quickly, and for people who have said " where are the dinosaurs" and "there's too much talking", go and look up how much dino footage is actually in Jurassic Park. If you just go from dino scene to dino scene, you end up with JP3. Does it have it's flaws, of course it does, just like every other film. **** Spoiler alert **** For example, why didn't Claire notice the ladder hanging down when in the control room before being faced with the Baronyx when it was clear to see? Why did Toby Jones' auctioneer have to have that flying Trump hair screaming moment which was so cheesy? Why did the Indoraptor death have to be in slow motion? It's not dramatic and is nothing more than a cliche. The fact that around a dozen or so dinosaurs being released into the real world seemingly means they cannot be taken back out of it and the world is going to change - but with such a small number why is it such a big thing. They've tranquilized them once, so why not again. But in the grand scheme of things, do I care? Not at all. There is a massive difference between how films are made and marketed now compared to 25 years ago. One disappointment I had was that the Mosasaurus scene with the surfers was no more in the film than was seen in the trailer, the same for the Rex with the lion. It's like showing you the horse race then asking you to bet on it. The original JP trailer showed pieces of dinosaurs but never actually shows much more. You had to see the film to get the spectacle. i even remember promo clips of the Rex escape were edited to cut out much of the scene (you see the claw on the wire and the Rex stomping towards the car but you never saw the actual moment it steps out of the paddock and roars for the first time until you saw it in the cinema). The other trailer issue was the scene that made it look like Owen and Blue were conversing "You thinking what I'm thinking" followed by a smirking Blue. Naff as hell, but these are from two different scenes in the film and works much better than the trailer makes it appear. Why damage your film with a trailer that does that? Misguiding like the Infinity War trailer I love the idea of - show what the hell you want except what actually happens which leaves you to find out in the cinema - I personally think this is the way trailers need to go if they are intent on showing so much, but don't show it in a way that makes your film look more cheesy than it needs to be. What this film does that I love, in the same was as JW, is the throwbacks. The certain way the Rex stands for that triumphant roar - where have i seen that before? - the stance of the brachiosaurus as it meets its fiery end, Maisy desperately attempting to pull down a sliding door as the dinosaur pelts towards her, the upturned car when Blue first appears and so many more references that link back to JP. And we also have the thing that quite a few people thought they were going to see the first time, a Jurassic World where dinosaurs are no longer confined to an island. Bring on one last hurrah in 2021 for me.

The problem with the story is that it was just a holding pattern for third film in this trilogy The Indoraptor's rather feeble death was a bit a bum note tbh. Bit strange in a movie about Dinosaurs that the human characters most at the forefront. The chemistry between the human characters was better this time around though. Jeff Goldblum was basically used a marketing tool which is a shame as I quite like the Dr Malcolm character. I thought it was a 7/10

Just watched this. I have to say, as someone who works in genetics with a strong interest in emerging technologies in science that this film really made me think. A summer blockbuster. Madness. The hammering home of the idea that we can't just put our discoveries back in the box is very potent. Designer babies, cloning, the ending of conventional aging, or the reviving of lost species. When we can do it, we will do it and reality is changed. I never expected this from a dinosaur blockbuster

DanClarky1 I saw his most recent film Manhunt and it was unfortunately laughably bad. He had dubbed over 70% of the dialogue leaving the majority of the actors' performances on the cutting room floor. Particularly with one actress, it was glaringly obvious her entire performance had been dubbed by a completely different person. I actually think it might be the worst film I have ever seen, but I suppose it's one of those bad films which you could watch purely for entertainment purposes like 'The Room'.

I liked it, not as much as Jurassic World, but I liked it. That said, it's very much a set up movie for the next film. It felt like they had a point they wanted to get to, some themes they wanted to introduce, but it was too much to do in one movie so they split a script in two and slowed some things down, padded it out, and made it the middle of a trilogy. The next film has a lot of interesting set up and things to explore, but it kind of compromised this movie a bit.
@Holodrone
@Holodrone 6 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think they could have truncated the second half and had more of what happens next in this film. There's so much potential that's gone wasted really, we have no idea what the next one is about, only that there's some dinos in the wild, some with billionaires and some DNA still kicking around, presumably in Wu's possession. The filmmakers talked previously about all the applications the dinos could have, so it's disappointing that instead of exploring one of those in this film, this was just the setup. The second half could have been set at one of the places the dinos were sent to, a military base or who knows what, but instead they set it in a house, essentially a miniature version of the island. I don't know why the Indoraptor would stalk them around the house, and not flee into the woods at the first opportunity!

You could say the exact same thing for Jurrasic World. Quite a bit of set up for this movie. Where they are getting to in 3 is what the first film was going to be about but unless you make everything a 10 part netflix series you just can't do it all

Just came back from a viewing. I didn’t like the pacing, I think the previous one was a bit more linier and sleek, this one plods at times. Nothing really made me jump in this one, the ending, which I will not give away, I did not like, it just verged into the zone of too ridiculous, even for this franchise, and the final line was wincingly corny. As Mark says, it’s silly but at least the dialogue between Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard is not the cringe fest that it was in the previous film.

I think it falls apart when you compare it to its counterpart in the Park trilogy. The Lost World had its flaws but the story and the villains were vastly more compelling than in Fallen Kingdom. I feel like Fallen Kingdom would have been better had it not gone with the ulterior motive story and just spent the whole time trying to save the dinosaurs while the island was erupting around them.

It's a film about dinosaurs, not Citizen Kane. I went in was entertained for a couple of hours, it had some funny moments and some decent scares, characters to love and hate, and did broadly what I expected it to. My one gripe is that if you are going to include a post credits scene, make it worth it.

Yeah but the first Jurassic Park is about dinosaurs, and the reason it's still watchable today is because all the elements work so well. Just because a film is about "monsters" or something make-believe doesn't mean it has to be mindless entertainment. Hell, The Land Before Time is an animated children's film about dinosaurs and yet it's gut-wrenching storytelling at its finest.

Star Wars is brilliant and that’s about an old man with an unnatural interest in a teenager encouraging him to join a cult, commit acts of galaxy wide terrorism and kill his dad.

I agree, it doesn't have to be mindless entertainment, but there has to be an element of the suspension of disbelief involved. That aside, derivative as it is, I enjoyed it. The two leads have a great chemistry and for me they bring a lot to the story. Toby Jones is fantastic as well, effects are fantastic, and overall I'm happy with it. It's not groundbreaking by any means, but it that's not a bad thing.

For all the talk of Sicario not needing a sequel (which I happened to like) this was completely unnecessary and way too long to the point of testing patience. Oh, and Jeff Goldblum is only in the film for a total of maybe 3 minutes.

I think Kermode is being a bit harsh here. The film easily bests the previous movie in the franchise and JA Bayona is the first director of a Jurassic sequel who really puts his own stamp on it. Add in set pieces Spielberg would be proud of and this is arguably the third (maybe second?) best movie in the franchise

Jurassic World felt very lazy to me, enjoyable enough at the cinema but I'll never watch it again. Having dinosaurs in the movie doesn't give the script, direction, etc a free pass like some people seem to suggest. Shape of Water was about a woman banging a fish, and look at that. If they can't come up with a better story then they should just leave the JP name alone in my opinion. They can do a lot better.

So the thing is.......its absolutely terrible! Badly directed, badly edited and overall just badly done! From the misplaced humour ( a raptor smirking all Tom & Jerry esque at a hunter) to a dinosaur headbutting a wall and shaking its head whilst i almost expected to see little dinosaurs twirl around it.... the whole stagnated sequences that are pieced so incoherently together ( the comedy side kick "your a deck crew" who returns 20 minutes later to save the fay convincingly) From the laws of physics rewritten ( I'm pretty sure a gun does not fire in water or an entire human being swalled in one gulp with no trace of blood) hey lets not get started about the fact that we now clone humans too 100% accurately, i half expected sir Dickie to walk back on screen all cgi. The fact that a dinosaur can shake off molten lava like its water even the fact that it can fit into a man hole size container when its the size of a.. well a bloody big dinosaur! It just made no sense! Lets take an idea for a story add a little of what works, simmer with special effects a pinch of A listing and a dash of Goldblum cameo, sautee with bad exposition and your left with a terrible mess of a film! AVOID AT ALL COST.

I didn't like Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The script was embarrassing, the characters were drawn with the artistry of a toddler inspired by The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and I was nerdily disappointed at the absence of Sam Neil. I absolutely hated the mess of the second half of the film. I mean why is it that there has to be this negative twist. Jurassic Park was nice because it was about chaos, the unpredictability of life, but this was boring, predictable and lazy. Meh with moments is about right.

Jurassic park will never be recreated. These sequels are what tjey are. I enjoyed the last movie but this one was far better imo. It's an action sequel. It's a popcorn blockbuster. But the darkness and graphic nature of this movie and the acting and characters were far better. This was a great sequel imo.

This guy is a snob, he only saw this movie thinking of the director's resume. There're excellent films that go from point A to B and there's nothing wrong with that. And if this guy thinks the plot really really really makes no sense (for whatever reason that he doesn't explain) pardon me but he's an idiot. Here's the plot: A group of guys rescue a dinosaurs from an island that's about to explode and afterwards they wanted to sell them. This makes no sense? ok. It's not rocket science. If he wanted to see a complete horror film the go see Nosferatus. This guy's opinion si like his name spelled backwards. It makes no sense.
