Jussi bjorling, his voice is powerful and Dulcet. You're right Paul, it does relax, listening to opera especially when the voice is powerful and sweet. Check out, Jussi bjorling singing nessun Dorma, it's called the slow version. (1944) he holds the last note , longer than his other version. And Che Gelida manina, out of this world. Pity he wasn't around in this ERA! When I heard him sing "O Helga natt, I said, ("It Can't get any better than this!) I heard others singing it. But Jussi bjorling version is MAGNIFICENT!!👍👏👏👏🐐..

Yes, the slow version is the sound of perfection. Imagine if that recording was of better quality. I'd faint.

Jussi was a pure tenor, unlike many other tenors. Also, Caruso especially, and Gigli and Jussi as well, lived in an era where recordings were quite rudimentary. So it's hard to compare them with more recent singers. But I think Jussi had a very efficient vocal technique and his voice was just exceptionally beautiful.

Jussi has a beautiful tear in his voice and he sings every note so perfect (not screaming) thats why I think he is the best singer.

I feel relaxed when I listen to elderly Swedish music, like this one. The message is often our relation to the nature, that many modern people lost. I hope you continue to listen to Jussi, singing in Swedish. There are so many nice poetic songs. For example "När jag för mig själv i mörka skogen går" (When I walk alone in the dark forest), "Bland skogens höga furustammar" (Among the high fir-trees in the forest) or "Trollsjön" (The enchanted lake).

I'm from Sweden and I enjoy your reactions. I laughed when you care so much about our words, not many do care how it is pronounced. Opera is both relaxing and engaging I think. Jussi is the best. Some of Amadeus Mozarts work made me anxious but he also made one of the most beautiful work.

Intressting to hear your opinion, Jussi Björling is indeed nr1. I think partly why this tune is so relaxing is because he sings of a very beautiful and scerene part of the world: Värmland. Cheers! //From Värmland

The song salutes Värmland, a province, as the beautiful and lovely. To Värmland I will always return to live and die and if I take a wife from there I will nerver regret it.

Jussi was part of an international movement of mixed singing at a time when Europe exhibited distinct regional styles. The south was brassy & dramatic, the north more formal. Jussi technique is even from top to bottom, ringing consistently without thevpatchiness of color of later male singers, who adopted a more showy Hollywood type machismo & sexiness. Jussi exemplified a purer more evenly rendered bel canto ideal of the international style. One of my teachers worked with him and one ideal was constant masque intonation throughout every so called registers to unite the one voice style.

Just for reference: Ä is prounced like the A in "apple", Ö like the I in "girl" and Å like the A in "war" (closer to the British pronunciation than the American). The pronunciation of SK in "sköna" doesn't have an equivavalent in English, so it's hard to describe it in writing. It's a little like a sh-sound but from the back of the throat instead of the front.

This song… and sung by Him! Wow! Countries have national anthems, and so does Värmland (A “landscape”= region) where I actually grew up, so I have sung this at the last day before summer vacation and similar occasions. Jussi’s interpretation is phenomenal. But maybe you want to hear it the way we often hear it: With a choir. Here is a link to a very good such performance. The o in Björling can be pronounced like the u in "duh".
@knowledgeisgood9645
@knowledgeisgood9645 8 ай бұрын
I don't agree. The "o" is not an o, it is a different letter that just resembles o. It is ö, pronounced as the i in Sir, or the u in purr. There are more letters in Swedish, Norwegian and Danish that look like English letters but are pronounced another way altogether.

About the "top 3" you mentioned, i believe the best tenors of all time are Caruso, Bjorling, Franco Corelli, Del Monaco, Gigli, and Di Stefano (in his few prime years). Pavarotti is great, but he isn't in the same level

As far as pronunciation goes: Värmland with an "ä" instead of an "a" is actually pronounced similar to how English speakers would pronounce "eh". The word "skön", (beautiful) is pronounced with a soft k, a bit similar to "schön" in German, although the sort of soft Swedish "sk" sound is really hard to imitate and, that said, not quite as soft as "schön" in German. It's actually more like "chön", whereby the c and h remain only relatively soft and the vowel as in German. Again, there are indeed some upper class Swedes who can't help pronouncing "skön "as though it were the German word. I feel sorry for them, but they can't help it. They grew up hearing people around them speak that way, and they obviously don't feel the need to change it, although it very clearly betrays their social background. Yes: Swedish upper class! Note: Even Jussi imitates that mode of speech when he sings in Swedish. He also pronounces "mig " (me) as "mig" instead of the customary colloquial "mej", etc. In the formal written language "mej" is "mig", but today almost invariably pronounced "mej".
