He was never the same from the moment he put on the PSG shirt. Good career move for him, good for the bank, no shame in it. The lack of surgery to fix that ankle though, that PSG push to play him asap has seemingly robbed him of the ability to maintain fitness long term. Glorious player, as good as Messi or Ronaldo, been his fan since Santos. Sad to see his body fail him, but that bank account can wash away his tears.

It wasn't a good career move from a footballing point of view. He's at a club that will win Ligue 1 titles even without him playing most of the time, he can play for Brazil nearly all the time (he never seems to be injured when they need him), but they still pay him as if money is no object. This doesn't create a positive environment for a footballer that needs to be pushed to achieve his goals.

Its astounding that ppl still dont see in 2023 that PSG is not a serious Football club. Its a glorrified brand & a Marketing tool for Paris & Qatar. Any player with any self respect for themselves should not go to that Club. Its not about oil/gas money but the commitment of the ppl behind the scenes. City is a oil club but look at them, they have created a Dynasty for themselves. I still dont believe how PSG has the most Expensive & the most useless Front line in the World. The frontline of Messi/Mbappe/Neymar should've never played football together. The animosity & awkwardness amongst them oozes out of the TV screen.

There's a similar injury discussion in the NBA right now and i think football has similar problems: "The current "load management" debate is simply not rooted in science or medicine. A major factor: Many players now enter the NBA with badly broken bodies. I reported on this massive crisis over a two-year period. This was not always the case. Decades ago, players didn't specialize. They played multiple sports. They took summers off. They had "normal" childhoods. Now, kids begin playing as young as 8 years old, and they play all year from then on. That mileage adds up -- in an awful way." Maybe a reason why Zlatan made it this long, always trained TaeKwonDo aside of football.

@@Max.Hartmann And that is still in large these clubs Football and Basketball have medical doctors on the team, state of the art physical facility. Spent numerous amount of money having ice baths, cryotherapy, and much more. Building mileage is normal. Does affect injuries. We don't have data or stats why load management isn't successful and why players are frequently getting injured. For Neymar's sake, he plays a lot through contact and his style of play puts himself vulnerable from challenges that result to injuries. The chances of your winger being inured is significantly higher then your goalkeeper being injured or your fullback.

Exactly. A lot of people are acting as if PSG 2018 was the best of his career and the move benefitted him. Maybe it was his “best season,” but he had so much more potential at Barcelona to grow as a player, to win bigger things, to become the next great Brazilian. Is it a coincidence that he has been sustaining these injuries in the winter? The winter in France seems to be rather hard on him and his ankle. I think it’s a factor of many things, the pressure, his ankle not healing properly, he’s already achieved everything, gained financial stability for his family and burnout. He’s been in the limelight since he was in his early teens that can also take a toll on someone. The only way I see him bouncing back is if he sits down and figures out if playing is still what he wants or is he doing it because it’s what expected of him.

Neymar might just be burnt out. He stated he won't play another world cup, and that is the trophy he wanted the most. Neymar had enormous pressure to live up to the Brazilian greats, which was unfair in my eyes. The Ronaldinho-esque lifestyle doesn't help his injuries or passion either. I can't deny his brilliance, but it does feel like he has taken it for granted for the majority of his career. Not nearly as professional in terms of training, diet and lifestyle as his peers and that comes back to bite players in their early 30s.

I wouldn't deny that his ankle had a huge influence on his decline, but honestly I think his commitment to the sport has been the biggest factor in his decline. People want to look in rose tinted glasses for every action he does in matches, but realistically he goes through games being largely anonymous compared to his former self. Also being outshined by Mbappe suits him right for how he's wasted his potential impact on a World level since 2019. He should've been winning Balon D'ors and other individual accolades instead of these mid-30s players like Benzema, Messi, Lewandowski, etc.

Neymar is overrated and overhated. He is overhated because he still had an amazing career with amazing stats. Compare him to most players we consider to be legends. Most Legends had one, maybe two seasons on the highest level, the Messi/Ronaldo level. Just look at Ronaldinho. The guy had two incredible seasons in his entire career and after that was more focused on alcohol and women. Overrated because with all his god given talent, many players like Muller managed to have a better career and all things considered Muller is a better football player. Read that carefully, of course Neymar is a hundred times better on the ball, but being a football player also means being a professional, having a great attitude and to be a good Teamplayer.

That müller take is awful, ngl. Could Neymar be more professional? Absolutely and it did hurt him, but it's not like he derails teams by acting like a tool in the dressing room. His bad behavior is mostly outside of football+diving, both of which have very little negative impact on the team. You could even argue having him takes pressure off the team and on him instead Nearly all his teammates have always spoken extremely positive about him and he always tracks back. Overall he's definitely contributing more to the team than müller even with his professional attitude ever could. I'd hardly say Neymar had a worse career than him, even if it could have been better

Combining that with his behavior wich does make opposite players angry, you can see why he is a lot more prone to injury when compare to other technical players like him.

If I remember rightly, he had an injured ankle when he signed for PSG and then it kind of just vanished so he could play immediately. The problem with all injuries but ESPECIALLY ankles is if you don't let them heal properly... they are going to go again. Like honestly, for all the kicks he gets, the biggest issue is that his a footballer who is quick and quickly changes direction. That puts IMMENSE load through your ankles. At this point, with the amount on injuries his had on that one ankle.. I wouldn't bet on him magically getting over them. That ankle will be absolutely fucking shot at this point. Ankles, knees and hips aint to be fucked with. Your transfering your whole body weight through them whilst needing them to flex and move. They get injured and you don't let them heal properly... you aint gonna get away with it. I remember in the 90s, so many players got fucked by that, where they got ankle/knee injuries and got cortisone injections to "play through pain" since the next couple games were important. And it took years of thier careers.

I don’t care about Neymar and I think I’m not in the minority. I recognize he is very talented too. Usually with supremely talented players, you either love them or hate them. I’m completely passionless about Neymar. I think because he takes it for granted.

I really genuinely feel bad for Neymar he had the potential to be the best honestly and injuries and if we're being genuine, ego from other French players cost him a lot of injuries because they would just attack him. He got failed more than vinicius Jr is right now at real Madrid and it's just a shame. I still think he has a good run in him but no one wants to see it and I don't blame people for not

My predictions for this summer is that Messi, Neymar and Mbappe leave psg. Neymar just doesn’t really fit in to their long term goals there and multiple clubs have been eyeing him recently. Messi is unfortunately reaching the end of his career and I think he realizes that champions league days are over so I think he’ll go back to Argentina. And todays game proves that if mbappe wants to have a successful career, he cannot stay at psg. He needs to go to a premier league or la liga team which I’m pretty sure he’ll do. That’s just my opinion tho only time will tell

I hope Neymar doesn't come back in full swing tbh. How his career has gone is completely his fault for the most part. There are like 3-4 players that will never have my respect and Neymar is definitely one of them.

I´m not following(neither care) his carear, so maybe my POV wouldn´t be relevant to you. But what I know about Neymar is that he only was in GOAT comparison around 2015(with the MSN trio) and everything else is just money, injuries and parties. And all those memes. I really don´t know what he has acomplished all his carear, not that I care a lot. But that must put the debate that he isn´t near, neither deserves to be considered around the real GOATs of football. To me he is just gloryfied footballer that has some skills. And that 222M deal was a joke. His carear will never be something special, just because he prefers party than football. Yes, he is at least above average footballer, but he never deserved to be even compared to the greats of that sport.
