Why not call Feyenoord Nazis, or far right, or at least right wing, since you were happy to do that to Rangers, while Feyenoord make actual nazi salutes and references to the holocaust? Yes it’s true that Ajax are the most successful club in The Netherlands winning the most titles and trophies, it’s also true that Feyenoord was the first Dutch Club to win The Euro Cup 1 ( now known as the Champions League ) The Intercontinental Cup and the UEFA Cup, plus being the first Dutch Club to reach the final of the Conference League. Now to me one of the biggest differences between Ajax and Feyenoord is there fans, while there are of course on both sides diehard supporters who support their teams through and through, there are many so called Ajax “fans” that are only interested the club when things are going well, while Feyenoord fans go even when things are not going well at all . when Feyenoord lost 10-0 against P.S.V Eindhoven in 2010, De Kuip was still sold out for there next competition match, that’s how loyal Feyenoord fans are.

Feyenoord was almost done, Vrienden van Feyenoord have reach there helping hands and money to survive. Even in that hard period, De Kuip was sold out. Also a fact, Feyenoord have the most fans in Holland. 2017 when the became the champion of the Eredivisie, a sms alert for whole Holland was send out. 150k+ people where in Rotterdam to celebrate it. I was there, and trust me: it was insane. Feyenoord fans are amazing, and im proud to be one. Not that hard when u saw De Wolff playing in ur Youth period

When I look at this rivalry, it's a bit like Marseille vs PSG. I'm a Marseillais born and raised and grew up hating PSG. The classique is pretty recent but it has the same animosity as the Klassieker : two cities which hate each other. Paris is like Amsterdam while Marseille is like Rotterdam. My dad is an Ajax fan and likes Netherlands. I might buy a Feyenoord jersey just to mess with him. Nice video, I learnt a lot about these cities and clubs.

you know, about 5 years ago, I started consistently watching Eredivisie. I got in mostly neutral, since I live very close to Rotterdam, Feyenoord would obviously become a very easy choice but I decided to just give all teams a go before actually "picking" a favourite. I still ended up with absolutely loving Feyenoord. The biggest reason being that when I visited a match, I completely fell in love with the atmosphere in the stadium... It'll probably sound very biased but Feyenoord easily has the best atmosphere during matches in the entire country, and its not even close... The amount of support from "het legioen" is something you won't see very much.

I am a big Feyenoord supporter and I think Feyenoord and Ajax are both beautiful and iconic football clubs. I'm not from Rotterdam and not from Amsterdam, but I'm from the east of the Netherlands. And as someone who does not come from the big city, I can say that Feyenoord has much more charm for me than Ajax. The big difference is that we at Feyenoord don't live for the prizes. Feyenoord is part of the city and whether they win prizes or not: the feeling for Feyenoord does not diminish. Unfortunately, that feeling is so strong that sometimes aggression is involved and I detest that, but in the end I always come back to the magical feeling that Feyenoord can give. And for me that is the biggest and most important difference between Feyenoord and Ajax. In the Netherlands I think you have comparable smaller clubs to Feyenoord, such as Go Ahead Eagles and FC Twente. But in my opinion Feyenoord can also be compared to clubs such as Celtic, Saint-Etienne, Borussia Dortmund, Real Betis, etc. If I also listen to the people I know personally who say they are for Ajax, then I think that they depend far too much on success. Visiting an Ajax match is a day out for many people, while there are many more supporters at Feyenoord who really have a bond or feeling with the club.

Don’t think it’s much of a miracle. Ajax had/has to deal with managerial switches this season. I think the way Ajax spent their money was not what Ajax should do. I think the club should give plenty of room to the youngsters as we’ve always done. But buying so many players has made us lose good youth products. Danilo lacked game time so he transferred to Feyenoord. Doekhi was an academy player once and now he helped knock us out of Europe. Ajax not respecting their traditional ways seems to backfire.

There are a lot of Feyenoord supporters who won't agree with this Feyenoord supporter, especially some older ones. Feyenoord was very known in the seventies for their highly technical game. It's true that the supporters and fans are mostly hard workers and have that mentality off course, but Feyenoord had a lot of very skilled players as well. For example: Robin van Persie. In my youth I was a big fan of Shinji Ono of which Wesley Sneijder later said that it was the best player he played against. Both are known for their awesome skills and intelligence. Also one that I really liked was Julio Ricardo Cruz, also a really smart and refined player. Before my time there was Ruud Gullit for example or even Ed de Goeij :p But hard work is always needed to make it as a pro footballer, now even more than ever.

A cool idea for roots of the rivalry would in my opinion be the german Frankenderby (Franconia Derby) 1.FC Nürnberg vs SpVgg Greuther Fürth which is the oldest and most played derby in Germany and hence comes with loads of history. Greetings from Nürnberg

Unfortunately there is nothing on the video about why the rivalry actually started which started after the first game between them in 1921 Ajax won the game 3-2 but feijenoord complained afterwards to the Dutch fa about one of Ajax’s goals and the fa changed the score to a 2-2 draw and that lead to the bad feeling between the clubs.

Ajax has alot going for it. So does Rotterdam. I've visited both cities and they both have a indentity all its own. The Johan Cruijf Arena is a beautiful football grounds, modern, well set up, accesible and from the outside view its abit tame in my personal experience, which is what I experienced going out in Amsterdam. Relaxed people, open, international. But Feyenoords grounds, De Kuip is a old beast that even after renovations still has that hard old core the city that houses it is known for. It has something thats hard to explain, its gritty, its mean, its rolled up armsleeves. Its small backalleys along old 60's brick family housings. You've got to be able to take a joke or a shove, because the Kuip does not tollerate weakness, it thunders and roars.

what usually annoys me about the so called "Ajax arrogance" is the fact that they always seem to completely ignore the fact that Ajax mostly has its success because the budget is double that of their "closest" rivals Feyenoord and PSV.
@Infiuh Жыл бұрын
It's true. Ajax just is the bigger club. We don't really care about Feyenoord that much.
@arminiuszmazowszanin2670 Жыл бұрын
Double? haha they spended over 100mln euros last summer and got ass raped by Feyenoord in both matches. They buy players for 30 mlns while Feyenoord recordy buy is 7 mln. It's myth that ajax have the best academy in netherlands or one of the best in europe. They mostly scout and buy their best players (tadić, antony, haller, bergwijn, ziyech, neres, kudus, berghuis and so on and on - big money build their success not academy)and steal from other teams - example twins Timbers stolen from Feyenoord. Another thing is ajax mostly raise only good (good in dutch league ofcourse - not necessary in europe)defenders and defensive midfielders. They havent raised decent winger and striker since 1994 champions league era.

As someone from Amsterdam, I can confirm that people outside of Amsterdam think people from Amsterdam think they are superior way more than people from Amsterdam actually think they are superior. But like you mentioned, it's a very common feature for capitals vs. non-capitals all over the world. Also, Ajax-Feyenoord will always be the biggest rivalry in the Netherlands because like you explained it's also about the rivalry between the two biggest cities. However, I think most Ajax fans have a certain respect for Feyenoord and their ethics, while PSV doesn't even have that ;) Nowadays there's more and more Ajax fans that dislike PSV more than Feyenoord, but that's of course also driven by the results PSV obtained in the past 20-30 years. The cool thing about football is that if you f.e. work in a place with people from all over the Netherlands, football is always a good way to give (and receive) a friendly stab to your colleagues after the weekend, and it will always hurt, but you can still laugh about it.

Being from Rome I very well understand the dislike every city has for their state capital, but we have a very strange situation in Italy for historical reason. The Italian Ajax isn't either of the 2 clubs of the capital (Roma e Lazio) but Juventus, based in Torino. The Roma is the Italian Feyenoord, not so successful -even if probably the best Italian player of the modern era, Totti, made all his carrier here and was the captain for a very long time- but loved with a passion by fans. The Italians hate their capital so much I can't forget they cheered Liverpool against Roma in the European Cup of 1984. Madness.
