What I love about David’s bit is that it shows his deep love and knowledge of Shakespeare

One of the GOAT episodes. Three masters of the game & objectively the best debut over JAM’s 57 years.

Ah, bless Stephen Fry for throwing in those extra interruptions so David could draw equal at the end. Erudite and civilized.

I feel like the other three were being lenient with David on his first try, as he repeated stage, perhaps, do you, amongst other things, so it's nice that they go easy on newer players of the game.

@@francaperotti5934 Have to agree with you; his contributions are often unentertaining and forced. The guests though were a joy to listen to.

Ayesha Irfan What dreadful snobbery. Paul’s manner of speech may not be as refined as that of Nicholas, Stephen and David, but that doesn’t mean he’s not well spoken. He may not have the educational and theatrical background of those three, but compared to the average person in his home area in south east London he’s extremely well spoken. I’m also puzzled as to why you single out Paul without also mentioning Julian. His delivery and background are much closer to Paul’s than that of the others.
@patronusstag4 жыл бұрын
@@donaloflynn Wow. I really can't care much about their backgrounds. I listen to this for entertainment. His contributions don't entertain me much, particularly when put beside the other speakers. Not sure why I'm supposed to enjoy his overly exaggerated speeches and why my preference offended you so much.
@donaloflynn4 жыл бұрын
Ayesha Irfan Who is or is not well spoken judging from your choice of who is not has everything to do with their background. I’m not offended by your opinion, but rather by the snobbery that informs it. It’s also notable that until it was suggested to you that Paul might not be so well spoken, you’d said that they all were. Evidently snobbery is catching, so I’ll keep my distance now.

Nicholas is in no positiom to admonish other people for being pompous. Especially since he once famously said that he made a living out of being pompous.

@sallyatticum4 жыл бұрын
It was used differently, though, so not exactly the same. "Stage" as a verb and then as a descriptor in "stage technology."

Is anyone picking up that David using pacing, to his advantage.
@donaloflynn4 жыл бұрын
Laura Kay That makes no difference. “Know” and “no” counts as repetition, so stage used in two different grammatical forms certainly would. Also, I’m not sure why OP is even pointing this out, the others may not even have missed it, but rather were being generous to a first time player.
@donaloflynn4 жыл бұрын
ANDREA Nunn Yes, that’s his acting training coming to his aid. Nicholas often comments on those using pacing to their advantage, but was too mesmerised here to pick up on that specific aspect of David’s performance.

Good old Radio 4,. This listener in Cape Town is listening to the recording of borborygmoi from the past. You who have something to hide, are going to be exposed by he truth, whether they like it or not. And those who have stolen from people's apartments without allowing the owner any choice in what was happening, or how, are to be re-educated into better ways.
