What an absolutely beautiful voice & performance, your father would be so proud. This song has me in tears, & this song has a deep personal meaning for me. Living here in Australia I first started listening to Big Country at about age 15, & like so many other people I was searching for personal meaning & purpose in my life. I have been personally struggling with deep depression from a young age, & was diagnosed with chronic depression many years ago, & listening to Big Country was a therapeudic experience for my heart & mind. The songs' Just A Shadow, Chance, & Teacher got me threw some extremely dark days & times, for me the music was sowing a seed of hope in my heart & mind, & over time it would lead me into a deeper personal spiritual search & meaning to life. And at age 30 I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ into my heart and life as my personal Lord and Saviour, that was truly the greatest decision in my life. I hope & pray to God that Stuart Adamson will be in God's Eternal Kingdom of Heaven in the New Jerusalem at the Second Coming of our Lord Saviour God Jesus Christ!

My god. Is it even possible to out do the original? You have proved that it somehow is. I met your dad at a soundcheck @ the Grand in NYC in '93. I saw him on tv in the US in the early 80s on the show Solid Gold. Watching him and his mates on tv blew me away. The songwriting, guitar orchestration, performance - it blew me away and changed my life. It was the first time ever that the seed was planted: I want to do that; I can do that. All because of your father. Anyway, I got to meet him and tell him this. He was so warm and kind and receptive and appreciative in his response. I could not believe I was in the presence of my personal hero and idol and able to confront the single individual who determined the course of my passion decades before hand and express to him, " Sir, you are the reason my life has led me where I am." He was so humble and gentle and appreciative in his response. He told me he understood. He got it. He told me he felt the same way after seeing Led Zeppelin the first time. He told me it rocked his world and he was never the same. It was what continued to connect him with his fans. Then he proceeded to put on an unbelievable show that blew the doors off the venue that evening. I miss him so much as a fan, but I am so grateful for his music. And I am so grateful and appreciative that his legacy lives on in meaningful ways through the beauty of your own talent. Thank you and kind wishes.

It definitely is possible to out do the original song, Stuart's version of "tracks of my tear" is one example. As a side note, big country are classed as one hit wonders here in Australia. The Australian people missed out on some great music.
@BuffaloSkinner Жыл бұрын
I used to work in local radio and met Suart several times through that. Big Country supported Page /Plant when they toured and Stuart told me he found himself in the same situation you describe but with Jimmy Page. Jimmy Page's reaction was the same as you describe Stuart's.

For many years I have followed BIG COUNTRY, in Italy they are very well known, Stuart was a great musician he had a wonderful voice, even today in the evening I sit on the sofa and watch the BIG COUNTRY live performances on youtube, remembering my youth and the search for their records when there was no internet. I still listen to their music today. Finding you singing your dad's songs so beautifully. He will surely be proud of you. Thanks

It's only in recent years I realised how deep these lyrics go. Back in the days of Steeltown I was still dreaming for my own personal greatness but having lived many years beyond those dreams, revisiting Stuart's lyrics as a husband and father brings more meaning to his songs. You channel and interpret from where you came so well.

Hi Kirsten about 500 singers would offer to duet with you. I'd be one. For the last 2 weeks this song has been in my head. I'm from Edinburgh and Stuart's accent is same as mne. Thank you. This song and the rest of steeltown saved me in 80s when all the coal and steel was closing. I'd love to say your father did not know me and my struggles. But he did. Methil yard, undersea coal closures. A real man of the people xxx

You do this song all the justice Big Country strove to, and almost managed (albeit a huge ask, to be sure). All heart; and so crazy that its message resonates as clearly today - if not moreso - than 40 years ago. Your father was a mammoth songwriting mentor to me (and a few others of my generation [X] here in Canada), as much or more than Joe Strummer, Sinéad O'Connor, Dolores O'Riordan and Shane MacGowan were, rest all their souls.

Beautiful, Kristen. It's such a great song. He'd be so happy you keep showing how proud you are of life's work. I've been a huge fan of your father since I was in my teens. I still get so sad about him and I never even met him.. We're going to see him in a better world very soon without all the pressures this one. Search for answers..! We did meet Bruce a couple of years ago. That was a thrill. We're in Italy, so be sure to come visit. Richard
