Just after failing high psi test, it passed vacuum leak decay test.

You CAN NOT always trust vacuum leak test.
It can pass vacuum test

Tom, may I please ask you a question off-topic? Yesterday I crimped my very first AC hose in life for my Mercedes. I followed all the instructions and advices I learned from your videos. The result looks exactly like what it does with the hoses you show us in your videos. Hose ID and ferrules were of the exact size, I double checked that. My concern is that I can turn the fitting in the hose after crimping. Not easily, it takes some force, but it turns. I used some PAG Oil in the hose and on the fitting's O-rings before crimping. Maybe that is a stupid question, but being my first hose I inspected it in all directions and in all ways 🙈🙈. Thank you for your opinion about that.

Was it a thinner hose wall material then other hoses. Not sure. I don’t ever remember having that problem with my crimp tool.

Oh, sorry my first answer disappeared... Thank you, Tom. All the hose and ferrule were of identical diameters. Standard Barrier hose #10, ferrule for SB hose. You know what, I crimp it again 😊. That is a good practice. And then I will see 👍

Funny thing that hose: I just checked it again. One day since crimping has passed by. No chance to turn the fitting only a millimeter 😅😅, even with higher force. I think that must have been an effect of the PAG oil. But I know where to check first if pressure decay test fails 😂😂😂😂

Hey! Majority of my colleagues in automotive and Heavy Equipment world don’t even know what micron gauge or bottle of nitrogen ( besides changing accumulators) is! 😂 They think that “30 minutes at 30 inches “ is plenty good enough!!!

I take it you can't use nitrogen to test if the compressor is working or not

You’re not supposed to. But on these old iron 35 pounds slow RPM compressors you can fill it up to zero psi You can start it up at zero psi and see the negative go down to a negative vacuum on the low side and high side goes 70 to 100 psi
