I'm a trans guy and I play handball in a women's team (I'm pre-t). They have known that I'm trans for a month now and are really eager to get my name and pronouns right, I just love them. Anyways, last Friday we met for a team-building evening. Somebody got a box of fortune cookies and mine said "Never change yourself to be liked by others". And standing there, with those wonderful people who just accept me the way I am and this fortune cookie, made me realise that it does get better. Maybe not tomorrow or in a week, but it does get better.

I feel that. I'm a Demigirl/Neutrois gender and I dress masculine-androgynous (But I do like SOME 'feminine' things like flowers and nail polish, though to me I don't see gender in clothes objects r toys), and my pronouns are she/they and I had people call me sir, tell me I look and sound like a boy, tell me to be ladylike. When I say "I'm not a lady," they say "Well you're not a guy!" and I go "No, I'm not" and it's so hard explaining my gender to people. They ask if I'm trans MTF or FTM I say "No I'm Non-binary" some get it others ask what that is or say it doesn't exist and yeah it's so hard just to be myself.

Getting people to correctly pronoun your cat is usually easy, but I did once have an encounter with someone who insisted it was wrong that my boy cat called Hector was wearing a flower cape because he's a boy cat and should be wearing a suit. This was in a pet shop after taking him for a checkup at the vet in the store. He loves going out and dressing up, so why should it matter what he wears when he's just a cat?

I’d suggest to test out presenting more masc and having your friends use your preferred pronouns to see if it feels right. I am afab non-binary myself and for a brief couple of days I had an inner crisis in which I though I was ftm trans, but then I was like, duh I’m non-binary. Another good book is Mien Kampf written by a 20th century Austrian painter with a silly mustache it's literally the funniest non comedy book ever well at least according to my 5th year history teacher Mr Cook who once borrowed his friend's copy (because in Scotland the cops are a bit funny when it comes to Nazi stuff) he said it was just a long book of rambling that ultimately didn't make much sense which I guess makes sense since bigotry never makes sense like why hate someone for being the way they are

I came out to my choir teacher yesterday after being her student for almost three years now (she heard one of my friends call me my preferred name and asked me about it). Today was the first day she started calling me by my preferred name and some people were confused when I answered to my preferred name but no one objected. I also ended up coming out to my extra math help class (one I’d known from elementary school). It was really exciting because none of my teachers have called me my preferred name (another one knows it but he just calls us all “kid” even when calling on us he doesn’t refer to us with our names)

I recently went to a doctor who is a regular customer of mine, their secretary gave me a paper with personal information to fill out since I was getting a vaccination shot. At the question of "what is your gender" they put 6 DIFFERENT OPTIONS TO CHOOSE FROM!! (female, male, diverse, inter, open and not specified) I looked at it and even though I am not particularly religious sent a thank you prayer to the sky for restoring my faith in humanity. This tiny gesture made my week and I still smile thinking about it.

I am not super outgoing, but I got up the courage to go to an SCA meetup so I could hang out with other history and reenactment nerds like myself. When I sat down at a table I was introducing myself. I was dressed in a very simple, repurposed dress to kind of look like a norse apron dress (I’m female presenting) and as I was explaining how I threw together the outfit I mentioned that I wanted to make male kit too. And then as explanation tossed in that I am non-binary. Another person joined the table, and this new person, who had known me a matter of MINUTES, said, “Oh hey [so and so] meet our new member! They like reenactment.” I was very 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹 It was the first time someone correctly gendered me with no prompting at all! And the non-binary comment was really just context for my kit discussion! The analogy works like this: For Covid vaccines: The fire: Covid The extinguisher: The vaccines The dog: Covid-deniers/anti-vaxxers For hormone blockers: The fire: kids growing up in a body they don't feel right for themselves The extinguisher: puberty blockers The dog: transphobes (I'm not 100% sure on the last one, that's what I understood from Jamie's commentary)

@@countesselvararose1128 Ok so basically the fire is like a young person's body growing into a gender they don't want (causing dysphoria), and the fire extinguishers are the hormone blockers used at puberty so that kids can decide when they're 16 (or 18?) what gender presentation they want to have. Some people question the long term effects of 'fire extinguishers' (hormone blockers), without considering the devastating effect of gender dysphoria (the 'fire') on a person's life. I am cis so I really hope I got this right :)

10:17 I will tell you that as a cis-woman, I've had my privacy invaded more than once by other cis-women (and their nosy children) in the restroom, because they're peeking through the cracks in the stall door. It's happened with a girl I knew in elementary school, and it's happened while I've been in a public restroom at work. The cat thing made me think about one of my parent's cat from years ago. Basically it was a male (then neutered) cat but they consistently called her by feminine pronouns and named her Melody which in a weird sense kinda made her a "trans cat", who went missing way before i was born. My teacher was trying to tell people in my 4th hour that ypu need to respect pronouns even if you don't agree with it. Its not about your "beliefs" it's about respect. One girl asked what if it goes against their beliefs, many people said *they* don't get *they/them* pronouns, and most of the guys went off b*tching that there are only two genders and said pronouns are stupid. One of my best friends, we’ve been besties since kindergarten, has a ‘Schrodinger‘s Marraige’. She was apparently supposed to abandon and stop loving her partner because after they were married, she felt safe and loved enough to accept herself as trans. They’re still married and still madly in love as two women, the love doesn’t change because they weren’t the gender you thought they were. I like to think she always knew, she always knew I was a guy before I allowed myself to listen to myself.

This reminded me that one of my sister’s friend came out as trans boy, and my sister told me (she didn’t tell anyone else on my family because, well, they’re not against lgbt+ people but they also aren’t the mist supportive), and I’m so happy for her friend and for her, she’s a very accepting child that loves everyone and I can’t even say that I’m proud because that’s all on her. She is our best ally, I didn’t tell her that I’m nb because I was afraid that she wouldn’t understand, but I tried to explain that fact using a character of a series that we love, and weeks later we were talking about series with trans characters, and she mentioned this series and character, and I melted because she remembered what I said, and she took it seriously and accepted that there’s nb people, and I love her with all my heart. It's not like you even HAVE to remember to avoid misgendering -- if you've forgotten someone's pronouns, you can either ask them "What are your pronouns again?" or explain in an aside "I can't remember this person's preferred pronoun so I'm going to use 'they' because it's neutral; I apologise in advance." Using the wrong pronoun & not bothering to correct it means someone just doesn't care about someone else's feelings. Ugh.
