The things people will try to do to make an extra buck the part they don't realize is they are going to lose all their customers.... how much will they be making then....cheap bastards
@ThatOliverGuyChris5 жыл бұрын
I still get a little here and there from Shoup, but the last set of openers I got from them had bearing failures well before they should have. I put Agco ones on next, and they are holding up good. Worth the extra money in my book. Oh, and thanks for the plug!

100% yes. 10 years ago you would buy a Shoup opener and it would Outlast the John Deere openers. Because that's about the time John Deere went to China bearings and China metal on their stuff. The last rebuild we did on the planter nothing but very big trouble. The made-in-usa Ingersoll Rand blades on my white planter are lasting a lot better than the Shoop. Used to run their chisel plow points and the last ones we ran they actually bent. It did not break it did not wear out they just bent backwards. That was a four inch concave twist and they bent People complain about our prices on the geringhoff corn heads. But our own customers are telling us that the factory original parts are lasting two to three times longer then shoots
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
Jon Stevens Maple Grove Farms yep sounds bout right. Shoup is sure using cheap metal and not heat treating it. Might as well sell there parts at the farm store there so cheap. And ya I bet gearinghoff makes good stuff
@jefferytrice91805 жыл бұрын
Now that you mention it the last disc openers I put on the corn planter didn’t last some bearings some just wear fast. One side wear faster than the other they came from shoup also. Must be something there with their quality

I fond a short dust mop and put a custion short wood handle on it . It works well with harvest farm equipment to take off the Evening dust before it gets wet and turns to mud

Thanks for the update on harvest. I have only bought a few things form shoup and have had good luck with them. I understand your frustration with the parts you have gotten. I hope the rest of harvest goes good for you.
@dalecornelius43745 жыл бұрын
My neighbor had bad bearings on openers he got from Shoup, I hat to change a few bearings myself but the blades were 6 years old. Have had decent luck with other parts we bought from them. I'll never buy agco openers again. The 6342 we had before the 1780 JD we had now, had 1 yr old agco openers on it with about 1000 acres on them none would spin when we checked them. All but 3 blades had bearings locked up, the bearings from the dealer had no markings on them. Guess the Chinese wouldn't even claim them, and were all locked up the next spring. I got a pair of ingersoll openers for our Tye drill from agco dealer lost one in 3 rounds, pulled the threads out of the aluminum seed boot. Replaced boot $189 later pulled the threads again, they were warped and they wouldn't replace them. Shoup was 24.99/blade, dealer was 47.95 I was pissed. Have 1300 acres on shoup openers on that drill and no issues so far. I need a knife drive pulley for my 1020 header caseih wants $425 for basically an assembled weldapulley. That one was my fault though
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
Dale Cornelius dang ur luck has been about opposite of mine. We had decent luck with the agco ones. How do u like that tye drill? We are goin to buy a drill this winter and we’d like a JD 750 but we aren’t ready to spend that kind of money off the bat here. Maybe in a few years. Looking at a Great Plains or tye
@dalecornelius43745 жыл бұрын
Our Tye 2015 is a good drill, we have had 2 over the years. A series 2 and the 2015. But my recommendation would be a great plains, they are built better overall. The row units are all steel and really seem to hold up better. The tye has an aluminum seed boot which is expensive, and prone to break if you hit a rock. Parts in general are expensive for it, not including the wear parts available aftermarket. To top it off the closest stocking dealer for us is Suchomski in pinkneyville, which is nearly a 4 hour round trip. We keep a few y-arms, and a boot or 2 on hand. We run it quite a bit between wheat, cover crops, alfalfa, and we drill a few beans with it. Ours was a cream puff when we bought it in 2013, I dont think it had been used much. We almost bought a GP but I quit bidding too soon lol. I really like the looks of the GP drills, they are built very well. The problem with no-till drills is anything that sells for less than $8,000 probably needs multiple thousands of dollars in parts to put it in shape. If all your going to do is wheat in worked ground, find an old 510 or 5100 IH drill or gasp! an 8300 JD. If you get one with the grass box you can sow alfalfa and oats with it in one pass.
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
Dale Cornelius thanks for the info. Kuhn’s is only a half hour for us. Honestly I’d really like a JD 750 but starting out I’ll probably try a cheaper one these first couple years. I didn’t like the wide rubber closing wheels the gp had. The tyes I’ve seen with that narrow metal wheel looked better but it there not built as heavy idk if I want that. I think we will be no-tilling rye on on corn stalks. Everything else will probably be worked ground
@dalecornelius43745 жыл бұрын
I run the 2"x13" smooth crown on ours. I'm sure there's a use for the twin ribs and the 4" wide tires but I don't need them. There are several options for them. Keep in mind on both the gp and tye, the press wheel also controls your depth. I found the 2" holds depth better than the 1" wheels did. Wheat into bean stubble no-tills really well. Cereal rye into cornstalks you may need to add weight to the coulter cart, we have probably 600 lbs. on ours. Good sharp coulters are a must. Most Agco dealers dont stock tye parts unless they were previously a tye dealer. But Kuhns should be able to order parts for one. Another option that are less common but would work is a 5500 CaseIH on a yetter coulter cart. Krause also makes a pretty decent drill also.
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
Dale Cornelius good to know on the wheels. I definitely want a notill one even for just the wheel tracks. The gp we borrowed didn’t go in very well in the tracks. Didn’t know Krause made them. Do u know anything about a crustbuster? They look like a really well built unit

I replaced bearings and seals in the rear end of my truck less than 10 thousand miles ago and had to replace one the other day. Nothing seems to last any more. Almost everything you buy has China printed on the box or stamped on it somewhere. Funny when replacing the bearing some of the tools I was using said China on them. Try to stay away from that but it's hard to now days.

Always like to hear guys’ opinions about parts. Those are the first things I remember when I need to order something. My biggest Shoup issue was with timeliness and a return that I couldn’t get back to them. I think just about everyone has gone cheap. I broke the tensioner eye bolt on the intermediate cylinder drive today for the second time in three years. A weak genuine Deere one that turned out too soft. The first one lasted 21 years.

Thanks for the ride along. Sound like the ol' White is just plugging right along as you go. You're right about the replacement parts for the equipment anymore. They're just not the quality that they used to be. Sad thing is, most of the parts are foreign made & not held to a highest of standards like they should be. Stay safe.

I kind of wondered if shoups quality was slipping or it was just bad luck. Had a set of planter openers the bearings didn't go 100 acres on, I thought maybe I had them shimmed to tight. Had some seed boots that weren't the proper shape to for the geain drill. Think I will try kooima next time.
@jakeziegler5995 жыл бұрын
mr Bill nope not just u. We’ve tried them loose and they still go to pot after 1000 acres. Gona to have to buy them from the dealer because at least they last

Thanks Jake.... We just started getting stuff from Shoupe a few years ago.... So far, we've had good luck with their stuff. Rake teeth, disc mower blades, disc bearings.... We actually noticed that the mower blades seem to last longer than OEM. We usually get about 50 acres per side, so about 100 acres per set. Granted, this year was strange, but I cut over 300 acres, started with a used set, flopped them over and finished the season... On one set! Not arguing with you 😎 I know they get stuff from the cheapest supplier!! The disc bearings... They have a full spring and half of a fall on them now... Still going.. For the price, so far I'm happy... OEM were $156. When we bought the disc new.. (15+ years ago) Found the same bearings at Case-IH for $78. About 5 years ago... Paid $56.?? At Shoupe 2 years ago.. so far so good.. already covered more acres than two of the original $156. Bearings 😁
