They're rendered as GIFs because Scratch doesn't support raw video. Since all of the game's assets must be loaded at once, they use a low quality to preserve file space and prevent browsers from running out of memory.

⁠@@JDScratchifiedI think that’s what I like about the scratchified version of JD it looks good for what it is! Especially the effects in an engine that works for Scratch! Scratch has a really neat charm of having this style (which mostly isn’t a style it’s kinda just limitations) of characters or assets being GIFS 👍

@@JDScratchified Funnily, I attempted to do this 2 years ago. I couldn't solve the problem of the gif files not loading.. I had a full detection system that was just like this but it polled at poses instead.
