There are a couple of very simply motions that anyone can do in their trail (right) arm that lead to a very fluid motion of the shaft. We should you how easy it can be!

I absolutely agree the trail arm (I like to call it the lead arm when it comes to the take away) drives the bus. Hogan totally believed this. In fact when I made the switch to focusing on the takeaway feeling from the trail arm perspective I immediately felt it would "lead" the takeaway to the top and it solved a host of issues I had previously experienced. Mainly getting the shoulder under the chin was something that always eluded me as a swing thought or drill or move. It didn't solve anything for me or measureably improve my swing. Now with the trail arm "leading" the way and putting my rear shoulder well behind me, this gets me fully turned as well which this automatically puts my shoulder under my chin. Win win. Great video!

Thanks for the comment. Some people feel more left arm dominant, and some people feel more right arm dominant. Great to hear that a focus on feeling that trail arm leads the backswing really helps. FWIW I feel more trail arm dominant on the backswing as well. Hope you find some of our other videos of help as well.

Ben Hogan supinated his right arm in DS from top of BS through impact. This is how he eliminated pull and pull/hook. Supination of the right forearm (right hand swinger), means the clubface is opening from top of BS through impact. Near impossible to pull or pull/hook with clubface opening. It is the body turning , pivoting around the left hip that squares the clubface at/past impact.. leading to Ben Hogans position of Level Left.(shoulders, elbows, hips, all level (parallel and left after impact) Others who supinated the right arm in DS: Lee Trevino, George Knudson, Moe Norman Moe Norman called it his Magic Move: vertical drop and horizontal tug kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGavdpiihKqVh8k

@@dtgps Well said. Great visualization and move to add to my tweaking. I like feeling the inner elbow pointing skyward, well, forward, and the feeling of being under the plane a tad on the way down. Awesome sensation moving thru the ball. It becomes just a matter of how fast you can rotate and still not hit a hook! Glorious feeling! It was a surreal feeling to finally get how moving hard to the left thru impact with the hands would actually prevent a hook. So counterintuitive but damn does impact feel solid.

Congratulations ck. Now you know how happy I was to learn this from Gerry Hogan, author of The Hogan Manual of Human Performance: GOLF, 1991. Gerry cracked the code, that was, "Ben Hogans secret". You now know the Slot, Ben Hogan spoke of. As per Gerry Hogan, the most difficult move in all of sport is to come to impact with the right hand closer to your body than the left hand. Sounds your well on your way. It helps to take the Ben Hogan grip as in 5L @@cryptoking8060

So when Nate is making that simple movement and then returning to where he was at address. Is that point he is returning to: 1. him simply returning to the address position in order to repeat the demonstration of the backswing? or 2. is that how he would return to impact (i.e. impact and address are basically the same) but the only reason it doesn't visually look like his impact is that he is not returning the club there with momentum/body rotation etc given this is only a demonstration of the arm movement in isolation. In other words, at the moment of impact is the golfer returning the club to the address position but it looks different to address simply because of the inclusion of forces/ body movements/ shaft droop etc.

What is often forgotten is that the swing is on an arc, so the arms approximate the shoulders, so the swing is coming back inside (approximating the trail side) than follows through to the lead side (approximating the lead shoulder) which is than outside; as it pertains to the swing arc. A good golfer is impacting on the inside of the ball, so in reality you are not returning the club to the address position, but approximating the club through the address position. Its the breakdown of the arc that is the bane of all golfers in the history of the game, and why nobody gets better; because they are hitting a ball rather than maintaining a swing arc. When you are only 'hitting' the ball you are playing crochet, the golf club is not a stick with a mallet at the end of it. Golf is next to impossible because the body and mind fail at precision, and play crochet; instead.

Well you have to remember that golf is addictive - much more so than croquet! You're spot - the better you can make a fluid arc with the center of mass of the club coming into the ball you'll have better success. It's a challenge to be sure. With Trackman and slow motion cameras we are able to sort out motions and feelings that get closer to generating a fluid arc, but it doesn't change the fact that it does require a lot of precision. Golf isn't about perfect shots, it is about getting tighter and tighter dispersion so you can get more GIRs when you combine the tighter dispersion with better course management - aka don't necessarily aim at the pin. Thanks for the comment.

You really aren't returning to the address position at impact because the lower body is clearly not in the same position at the moment of impact as it was at setup. And I like the visual that you flow through positions, you don't go to positions if that makes sense. What we're trying to share here is a visual that can help you with understanding a feeling for the trail arm that will produce a more consistent arc through the impact zone. Ball flight is all about impact and your want a flowing arc of the club head through impact so hopefully this can help with creation of that. If you look closely at Nate or most pro golfers you will see that there is a very measurable shift of the spine location from setup to impact. The spine is more towards the target at impact vs address and generally slightly further away from the target line - down and left. The legs have rotated more to the left at impact than they were at setup. The hips have rotated more to the left than at setup. And the hands at the moment of impact are going to be more on the right side of the body vs where they were at setup iso the wrist angles at the point of impact are different. So yes - the shaft itself gets back to about the same position - generally we look for more forward shaft lean at the point of impact vs setup - but the body itself is not in the same position at all.
