@@davidshepherdgrossman Thanks for your reply. Over the weekend WFDU FM out of Teaneck N.J. ( Fairleigh Dickinson University) owned PBS Station did a Musical Tribute to Roger Miller which was great showing Roger was much more than a novelty songwriter. He won 11 Grammys in 2 Years and is the only Country Singer to win a Tony for BIG RIVER. He was married to Mary Arnold ( First Edition) after being introduced to her by Kenny Rogers. Mary so energetic & beautiful & a perfect match for Roger. She toured with him after The First Edition Disbanded. Amazon has a great MP3 Download with 19 Songs of Roger with all THE BIG HITS & The Serious Side of Roger. Sound is Stereo and Perfect AMAZING sound quality. I am sure you will enjoy it.

@@davidshepherdgrossman Stupid of me to never thought about checking out who was the composer... Somehow got the impression that it was, if not written by Kenny Rogers, so maybe for him. Guess that has some to do with that it seemed like Rogers was the one reaching a bigger audience, if that was the case? Never investigated that either*shame on my behalf* This is also a bit before my time, so I took it fore granted for some reason.. Also in my defence is that I'm from the other side of the world from the states and have a diverse range of music preferences... Many thanks for making me aware of this nevertheless! Appreciate it!

No worries. Few people know about Mickey Newbury compared to Kenny Rogers. Mickey never had a hit with any of his own songs. Kenny Rogers had the biggest hit with Dropped In. Check out more of Mickey Newbury though on KZbin. You will be amazed.

Mickey wrote it but nothing tops The First Edition Recording with Kenny Rogers ( Lead Vocal & Bass Guitar) Terry Williams ( Vocals & Lead Guitar) Thelma Comacho(Vocals & Tambourine) Mike Settle ( Vocals & Rhythm Guitar) Mickey Jones ( Drums) Mickey Newberry was a great songwriter who was admired by many of his peers but mostly Country Artists especially Waylon Jennings along with songwriter & producer Chips Moman & Bobby Emmons who gave the song Luckenbach Texas ( Basics Of Love) to Waylon . Newberry's name is mentioned in the verse along with Hank Williams & Fred Rose ( Songwriter of Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain) " Between Hank William's Pain Songs & Newberry's Train Songs & Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain, Out in Luckenbach Texas ain't nobody feeling no pain. Willie Nelson comes in on the final verse. This Song was the Start of The so called Country Outlaw Era. Newberry's Best was Immortalized by Elvis Presley's rendition of AMERICAN TRILOGY. When I met Mickey Newbury I had no idea who he was or how good he was. I was backstage tuning my guitar and he was next to me and asked what I was tuning my guitar to...I said my harmonica. He said, "You don't have an electric tuner?" It was 1988 tuners were not everywhere like they are today...I said, "No." He handed me his tuner and said, "You can have mine." He gave me the tuner to keep! Then he performed the best solo show I had ever seen. Check out more songs. Mickey's worth it.

Mickey Newbury was outlaw before there was an outlaw movement and he disdained it saying, "It's just categorizing again, making a new pigeon-hole to stick somebody into. You got to be dressed a certain way, you got to be a drinker and a hell-raiser, cuss and make an ass of yourself, act like a kid. I've told 'em I quit playing cowboys when I grew up. I just get turned off by all that." bitemyfoot.org.uk/omaha/or13/or13_03.html
