Kenny was a jazz upright bass player before he got famous, there's a clip of him here playing one with Willie Nelson. That's Kenny playing a 1968 Fender Telecaster bass on this song too, some live versions here. He was a great bass player and got a great sound, played electric with a pick.

I was today years old when I learned the drummer is also an actor who appeared on several sitcoms, notably Home Improvement (as one of the construction crew that appeared on Tool Time). I looked up this video after learning that and seeing the closeup of his face was a satisfying confirmation for me.

He was in a LOT of movies, as well. Mostly small parts. Also played drums for Bob Dylan, and for Trini Lopez. He was also in one of the most run TV commercials of all time: he was on a subway car with two old ladies beside him, one of them said something like: "I can't help but notice your breath." He looked down at her with a scowl and said "What about it?" she said something like "It is just so fresh!" then other old lady chimes in with "Yes! I have enjoyed your breath since 34th street!" Then Mickey gets all friendly and says "Why, Thank you!" It was a breath mints commercial.

Even for this early band that Kenny was in - the style of this song was unusual for them - most of their material was in the budding folk-country-rock style of the late 60's - but this one is a real psychedelic, summer of love gem - and fully dude-approved ..

Shows back then didn’t allow the bands to actually set up and use their equipment. It was all pre recorded, except for vocals. If you watch many bands from that time, you’ll see the musicians making a mockery of this. Making it obvious that they’re not actually playing, by not having their instruments plugged in, or just not even strumming while music is playing.,etc

The audience laughed at the aspirin thing but it's actually real and is why you don't give aspirin to babies or toddlers anymore. It's called Reye's syndrome and yes, it can cause lasting brain damage. I'm pretty sure it had just recently been discovered when this show was on the air. I grew up taking baby aspirin!
