What a sectiom! Cats be slinging some chops that's sure. Chart is some kinda flag-waver - but the vehicle for some real pyro. Thanks, guys. Takes this listener to his bari days.

Hampton band (w/Jimmy fronting the unit) only half-joking among themselves wondered if Scott wouldn't emote so heavily that the number he was singing at that moment woudn't be his last. Great, transformative privilege to have witnessed first-hand Jimmy in person (in intimate performance) and after opener not a dry eye remained in the club. This man is a singer's singer and without peer. His reissue album Lost and Found is a revelation.

I was lucky enough to see him that same year, performing to a small audience at the Newport Film Festival in the Hotel Viking. I sat in the front row and it was just Jimmy and a pianist accompanying him. One of the highlights of my life.

Do you mean the very end? That is actually Duke's original intro to Satin Doll, converted to 3/4 time. Very clever using it as the outro.

Privileged, indeed to have had front-row seat in tiny bookstore during Lost and Found period. To have called it the single most impressive live performance this jazzophile ever done seen is massive understatement. Not only embarassed (slightly) by the gut-wrenching depth of some heavy ballads, delivered as no other, turned to see behind what almost could have passed for wake. Not a single unaffected person, with many in bawling tears. And that was only three songs! Later, was able to give heart-felt compliment to Scott himself, saying “You’ve got the best phasing in business.” And he, consummate crooner, just shrugged and “Aww, thanks baby. Practically EVERY singer mentions at least, if not steal, Scott. His chromatics inspired no less than young Nancy Wilson, Franki Valli and so many more. Obscure melodies thrill once again with his interpretations, noted by songsmiths everywhere. No gimmicks, flangers, sweeteners or studio tricks. Interesting also, is Ray Charles, huge Scott fan, chose him to produce first album on Tangerine label, Which, because contract disputes, never released. Did see one of only copies known to exist by fellow concert-goer, who’d won advance release in radio call-in show. Record pulled shortly therafter. Scott is in league of own: Hampton sidemen sometime wondered if Poor Jimmy gonna collapse on stage, emoting so. But we see otherwise.
