Great reaction Jeff! Being a jazz pianist myself, Oscar has been my idol for many, many years! And I LOVE Joe's playing as well! Please react to more jazz!

He's probably the only one who could keep up with these two.

Giants at play... just thank God that we are privileged to be the flies on the wall soaking up the groove!

What makes this more special is we know that this is just a spontaneous improvisation.

I ain't muches intoos jazzzersizen stuffs, what with mees be-ins a wet behinds me ears, big boned, long limbed country boy and such. But, I certainly can appreciate mastery and masters exhibiting their craft, when I see them, effortlessly, doing what the would be, do, if they could - non-masters of the world would find impossible not just to replicate but to even contemplate doing!

I finally discovered where this video comes from. Can you imagine a 47 minute live concert on TV!' It was on BBC four. With Oscar Peterson, Count Basie & Joe Pass! The basis was the Oscar Peterson trio with Niels Pederson and Drew Martin. It includes a duet with Oscar and Count Basie. From 1980. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHmki4Nto7yibKMsi=xL21XJzMODoh5qCn

I just found time to watch more of the BBC four Oscar Peterson concert. In the middle, Oscar Peterson and Count Basie play a wonderful slow blues, and then tell stories about their early times as jazz pianists, and their relationships with Art Tatum. Then they play a duet on Jumpin at the Woodside. The whole 47 minutes is outstanding! Don't let it slip by! kzbin.info/www/bejne/aHmki4Nto7yibKMsi=wtK4OzUv1hgVvZ9a

Rick beato called "boogie blues etude" possibly the greatest solo of all time and I agree. Peterson, Neils Pedersen, barney kessel on guitar. 1974

Great analysis! I’m not sure if you venture outside the jazz scene. But if you’re interested- there are a couple of artists you might want to address. 1. Glenn Gould - The Goldberg Vaiations. 2. Steve Reich - Music for 18. Regarding Steve, he played at my club in nyc. Really great guy.
