I really wish I could here what your saying... Your recent updated video on cold mac was great btw... I know they just released new firmware on this module which changes the functions on a few knobs... and added other run modes... Just saying if you ever want to go back and re do this video on JF with all that new knowledge you have I will be happy to get your views up into the hundreds in a few days 🙂

It’s digital. There’s probably no practical way to do what this module does in a pure analog manner. The essential thing to understand is that it generates six waveforms-either bipolar (sound) or unipolar (shape)-similar to an oscillator or LFO. The main peculiarity is that, while the left-most signal (Identity) is always at the main frequency (Time), the other five are 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x and 6x the frequency, respectively, but scaled by the Intone setting. So, with Intone at noon, they’re all the same frequency (unison), all the way clockwise, they’re a harmonic series, and all the way counter-clockwise, they’re an “undertone” series. Like envelope generators, Just Friends can operate either in transient, sustain or cycle (automatic retriggering) modes. Plus, there are two waveshaping controls, FM, and six cv-controlled “run modes” that further alter its behavior. Another essential thing to understand is that Just Friends envelopes do not retrigger mid-cycle; they’re only “available” to retrigger once their cycle concludes (exceptions in the Run modes). This behavior has nuanced implications.
