Thank you for sharing ❤️ I have been busy. In 6 days in a row, I have been able to finish 4 quilts, and one embroidery (Dream machine 2) project.... The quilts (2), were finished tops, 2 pieced/ quilted. Pat Sloan, had made a suggestion about using a decorative stitch to stitch in the ditch, or just areas of the quilt. I have a 1 hour drive to my longarm quilt shop. I love the longarm process. I do it all freehand. I write words, designs etc.... I love beautiful quilt designs/ patterns. I just love personally adding more love into them. I date them/ sign them. It has been a 2 year journey. Having a ball & none of them are perfect. Just made with tons of fun, love, and allowing the quilt to speak to me....hugs for everyone....started my first paper piecing quilt....one piece....Yay

A tip for using invisible thread is to put a thread sock on the cone. I have used the netting that flower shops receive their flower bundles in, or even an old pair of nylons. Just something that can wrap around the thread cone loosely to keep the thread from puddling around the base. This also works for any other slick threads that may puddle at the base whenever stitching stops. Hope this helps.

So nice to know who invented the Card Trick block! Glad you got it finished. I have my own UFO pile as well. I'm in the process of cleaning out my sewing/craft room basically so we can bring in a new desk to hold my sewing machine which is way to heavy for the little wooden sewing table that came with a tiny metal machine that at one point the machine that was inside fell out onto my foot. Painful! But this cleaning out my sewing room has reached about month 6 or 7 now with no sewing done in that whole time. I have RA and my standing endurance is down to about 2 minutes so it is taking me forever. I will be glad when it is done and then maybe some UFOs will have a chance to make forward progress.

Lots of good questions. Thank you. A lot of people like making charity quilts, but I have yet to hear from anyone who is happy to RECEIVE a charity quilt. What gives? I figure that you have so many connections in the quilting world that you might have some idea. I am doing a Quilts for Kids one now; for $7 they will send the fabric and pattern and when you've finished it, you send it back at your own expense. Very satisfying and quick. Since they are so heavily invested in the process I think that they value their time and get the quilts to kids in hospitals or somewhere they are needed. For the other programs, I would like to have some reassurance that it is not just busy work. ps Love your videos.

Re: Keeping a sewing room dust free... Believe it or not... Weather permitting, so windows can be opened on one side of the room, I have been weighting things down, tidying, and blowing mine out with an air compressor. Seasonally. You can also use a leaf blower. At the end, dust bunnies collect against the far wall, so I choose my direction carefully and vac them up after. Note: If you want to try this, wear a dust mask. Seriously toxic stuff in hidden dust. Believe me on that. Shower afterwards and clothes into the wash, lol. Been doing this in all my house for several years and marvelling that I didn't think of it sooner.

I would really like a series please on different methods of quilt as you go QAYG. I am sure there are many methods possible, but only a few of them are on KZbin. I saw a KZbin video once on using bias binding made with a fusible bias tape maker (e.g. Clover ) to join the blocks together. The QAYG blocks were batting and quilt top only - no backing fabric. The blocks were then spray basted on backing fabric that was the full size of the quilt, (or at least very large sections of the overall quilt size) and then the bias tape was ironed over the joins between the blocks. All three layers of the quilt sandwich when then stitched through by stitching down the sides of the bias tape. I was so inspired by the method that I bought the tape makers. Now I can't find the video. I have looked and looked. The potential I see in this method is that it will allow curved or irregular blocks to be "pieced" together without seams, by "double cutting" adjoining bocks then butting the blocks together and ironing/sticking down the bias tape over the join. I acknowledge that quilt competition rules may require more quilting to show on the backing fabric - ah but the freedom and joy of moving away from straight lines when doing QAYG. A chance to organically grow a quilt, especially using scraps, over a period of time. To not have to plan ahead - just let the quilt grow and let it be a constant source of discovery. Please, please Karen - a series on QAYG!!!

I have attended her workshops several times and would again without a moment's hesitation. And thank you even more for getting a QAYG video together!!! 🎉🎉🎉 I haven't touched my daughter's heritage quilt while I'm waiting for your tips, but I did buy fabric for my son's heritage quilt, and I'm piecing Christmas lap quilts for both of my parents. I think those two are just going to get stitched in the ditch around the borders and along the design in my mom's panel. I'm not sure what to do with the panel on my Daddy's though, because it's John Wayne on a horse next to a cliff in the desert from "The Searchers". Not much to outline, and I want the fabric to be the focus, not the quilting. Any ideas? 🙏🙏🙏

@@JustGetitDoneQuilts I was told that, because of the way thread is made (by twisting few strings ) if we put it to unwind clock wise it will twist more and create troubles. My late mom was the seamstress and she often got cross when those things happened. Thread on top of the machine and in the bobbin should be placed so that they unwind ANTICLOCKWISE and there should be no problems. I can confirm that since I started paying attention to this it really worked perfectly! And if you look at modern thread spools - manufacturers did leave one side without any stickers with writing, and put all the info on the other side. Side with no sticker is one that needs to be bottom of your spool when you put it on the machine. Maybe someone can double check this and let others know.. 'cos it is really frustrating when tangling happens and it might be an tip of easy way to avoid it.. Regards from Serbia

Do you use spray adhesive to put your quilts together? I like 505. What brand do you like and can you do a video on putting a quilt together?

Excellent. Mind is over 15 years old. I take it down and up so many times and it’s just as good as new.

@@JustGetitDoneQuilts Yes, they are definitely still around! I purchased mine 2 years ago. It's the 810Q (I believe). From what I understand, they construct them here in Edmonton. The quality is outstanding!

I remembered 2 more questions. Where should one do spray basting? Seems like wherever I do it the stuff gets on my floor or table top. Also it is toxic smelling and some labels say it is toxic. What is the least toxic one? I currently use 505. Could you maybe do a video on doing an entire quilt with spray basting (I mean anyone could do a baby quilt but the bed sizes are the real deal).UGH can't remember the other question now!

I quilted my first quilt recently with pins and it was horrible and bumpy and I really tried... I had to spray baste a difficult corner (i did have a can on hand) and that corner looks AMAZING. Spraybaste4lyfe

Suggestion for a Halloween quilt is Bonnie Hunter’s Punkin quilt or table runner. Very scrappy and cute dancing pumpkins.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm, I look forward to your videos (and re-watch them several times lol)!. Who would have thought I'd feel a part of something just by subscribing to a KZbin channel! I'm learning a lot from your videos and from the comments from your other subscribers. Maybe one day I'll be able to offer an idea too!

Maybe you can answer this on your next Q&A.... How much consideration do you give to the age of the fabrics from your stash when you make a quilt? I have some that's 10 yrs old and some probably 20 yrs old. It seems to be in good condition, but I'm concerned about its ability to hold up for long.

Watching this late but I have a question. Do you like the extension table you have on your machine? I bought one but feel the quilts get hung up on it, probably better for piecing? Happy Belated Birthday!!

Love your videos. Since this is a Q & A and I am new to quilting. My question is I see all this fleece at JoAnn's and I was just wondering if your could use the fleece in your quilt instead of cotton batting??

Judy Schneider, according to my sewing instructor, Eileen Dyett, Fleece is definitely an option. I have used it often.
