Thanks for watching and all the great comments! Just to put everyone at ease, I saw the video a few more times and dissected it myself with the captions on and was surprised to see I wasn't far off with my initial thoughts. I always go back and watch it with captions afterwards, I just don't do it in my initial reaction because I want to take it all in without focusing too much on the words and missing out on the visuals. Moving forward I'm going to do my reaction without captions but before giving my thoughts I'm going to watch it again 😅 just to make sure I don't miss anything. Thank you all for the support!

I'm glad to hear that. This was 3 different levels of awesome. The visual story, the lyrical genius, and the flawless production. Yes, a haegeum is a traditional 2 stringed bowed instrument, but it's also the lifting of restriction on something that is forbidden. He talks about it in the SUGA: Road to D Day documentary that's available on Disney+. There are a lot of perfectly normal things like smoking, tattoos, dating, cursing, that most people can do without too much blowback, but these are things that are "forbidden" to idols. They can have a real negative impact on their career. He was speaking out on this double standard. There's also a lot of reference to how the things that are "freedom" for us can be detrimental to others. The chopsticks are a great example. They're tools to feed ourselves, but if used wrong they can be used to harm or kill... And more. There's layers upon layers of meaning here. :) Definitely if you keep checking these guys out consider giving the lyrics a look during your video at some point, even if you just read the english translation on line, we love that stuff, lol.

So glad you found the captions! Drives me nuts hearing reactors say "Of course I don't know what they're saying" when there's no "of course" about it. I tend to question their IQ when such a simple thing like captions is missed. It helps when we are told the artistic choice to delay reading the lyrics, but this group is all about the lyricism in nearly all their songs and solo works, so a reaction is missing a key element if it doesn't include review of the lyrics. (Don't worry, we'd prefer a longer video over missing such vital aspects!) All but their very earliest official MVs come with captions (the oldest do have captions when watched on 1theK channel, whose views count towards official charting platforms) You did do great with your theories though👏👏 which I think is a testament to what a great storyteller/producer Suga is. If nobody has told you, this video is part of a trilogy (Daechwita, Haegeum, Amygdala). The album trilogy of AgustD, D-2, and D-Day, closes out the AgustD chapters that processed a lot of pain and anger that Suga couldn't express under the group identity. His music is incredibly personal, powerful, and awesome to hear. Hope you take the opportunity to listen.

Please turn on the closed captions and go back and check them out. This song has deep messages in it. BTS are known for their lyricism, and SUGA aka Agust D (his solo persona), is one of the main songwriters and producers for the group. his lyrics are deep and meaningful, just like RM's. RM is more like a poet, SUGA is also poetic but more strait to the point. He tells you like it is. If you haven't seen Agust D, you should watch that one, and then watch Haegeum with the lyrics on for both videos. Haegeum has a double meaning, on one side, it’s a traditional Korean string instrument that has a very peculiar sound, and: Suga said in an interview it means “allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden.” The word “Haegeum” came to me when I was young. I played rhythm games, I loved rhythm action games. When beating a certain stage, you’d unlock a forbidden song, then you could play a new rhythm. It was a “freedom from the forbidden.” Why don’t I try and break free from those things?

AgustD is to Slim Shady as Suga is to Eminem and as Min Yoongi is to Marshall Bruce Mathers III 💜 and he grew up listening to and loving Epik High and Eminem and others in Rap and Hip Hop 💜 if you flip the letters of AgustD you will get Dtsuga = Dt (Daegu Town - the name of the underground hip hop group he was part of before BTS, named after his hometown of Daegu) followed by SUGA (his BTS stage name, stands for Shooting Guard - one of his favorite positions from playing basketball). 💜he uses “AgustD” pronounced like the month followed by saying the letter D, for his solo mixtape/album releases....he said this persona let’s him be more raw and direct.... he uses “SUGA” when performing as the BTS member persona.... ☮. Love him regardless what he calls himself😬💜 He has said this is the last of the AgustD trilogy. He has another MV coming out for one of the other songs from his new album soon too. and a dance practice video to this song comes out tomorrow. Enjoy!

Min Yoongi, known as SUGA and Agust D, is a rapper who used to be in the underground scene in Korea before joining BTS. His lyrics in this song are really deep, as they tackle the conformism forced on society. Haegeum can also mean to lift a ban. You can react to Daechwita by Agust D and try to catch the references! 😂 Overall your reaction was great and I hope to see you dive even deeper into his and BTS’ amazing discography. Borahae 💜

Haegeum meaning is inside the mv. The lyrics "Liberation from all that's forbidden or Freeing what's forbidden" mean heageum. Also, haegeum is a korean traditional string instruments. They have the same pronunciation and same letters in Korean. You can hear the sound of the haegeum in the mv. This mv is connected to another mv called daechwita. Agust d series. Def check out Daechwita since Haegeum is part two of the story (and then maybe watch Agust D by Agust D to understand who is the blonde king). Agust D is Suga's other persona expressing a disgust and dark emotions he was feeling through the years. D-Day however is the final part of his trilogy. Anyway you were right about the freedom part, that's pretty impressive without lyrics.

Yeah I thought the MV looked like The Raid too. Or Korean neo-noir films like Oldboy. He wrote and produced the song entirely by himself. Turn on captions if you didn't have them on. Haegeum has another meaning: to free or to lift what was restricted, prohibited or banned. And he did use the Haegeum instrument in the production of the beat. This song is kind of a continuation of his older song Daechwita, lots of visual parallels between the 2 music vids. Probably should have reacted to Daechwita before this one, but you can do it next.

Agree, Daechwita is worth checking out, it's another whole movie production and there are a lot of parallels and call backs to that. He's also releasing the MV for the song Amygdala on the 24th, and he said that they're kind of a complete story, that they should be watched together in order (Daechwita, Haegeum, then Amygdala) He's also said that this is probably the last content to be released as Agust D. He's kind of retiring that alter ego and moving on. He's not the same person, less anger, more peace. This whole album reflects that for me. This song still has that anger, but then he has the song Snooze that makes me WEEP. He wrote it to comfort and encourage the artists that came after him, that he knows it's hard but he's got their backs... But it feels applicable to life. I'm struggling with my own stuff in life, probably the hardest part of my life so far, and that song was beyond comforting... Anywhoo, sorry for the paragraph!

Suga aka Agust D just released his debut solo album called D-Day and it's part of his trilogy of albums. He released 2 previous solo mixtapes Agust D in 2016 and D-2 in 2020. Agust D is Suga backwards with DT for Daegu Town, the town where he is from. You should definitely watch Daechwita from his previous mixtape D-2. There is actually another music video released for this album called People Pt. 2 ft. It's part of a trilogy. The first song is on his other album D-2 called 'Daechwita' Then this one and then 'Amygdala' from his recent record Breaking album D-Day He's the only Rapper in the world to sell 1million physical album copies on it's release day. The album is as expected amazing. The third song 'Amygdala' is raw and honest, it's his life story basically and he said that making this album caused him to have mood swings. Amygdala is about his past trauma's. He's very open in his lyric's in his previous work as Agust D and as Suga of BTS about his fight with Depression, OCD and Anxiety. Like all member's of BTS he's a Song Writer, Composer and Producer. All BTS have solo work each is a solo artist so when they are together they are 'The Super Global Group'. As they are all on way (2members Jin and J Hope are already in the military) do their Military service (South Korea is still at war with the Reign in North Korea so every South Korean male has to do 18months military service. It's longer if they go into the navy or air force.) So before each member goes to do their military service each member is getting out their solo work and doing solo tours. They'll regroup as BTS once they've all complete military service in 2025.

Two strings on the Haegeum and two red chopsticks. The chopsticks represent his music, his art. He uses his art to slay his enemies and to feed himself. He raps in Haegeum about not being a slave to fame or money or views or other people’s desires. That’s why he burns the money. He is shedding another layer of his own greed and desire, to grow as a person. Just as he sheds his rage and paranoia and loneliness in Daechwita before this. . The trilogy (Daechwita, Haegeum and Amygdala) are the story of Yoongi’s journey through healing his traumas and his emotional growth. He is incredibly raw and candied in his music about his emotional struggles through the years.

Since becoming a member of BTS Suga has used AgustD (Suga spelled backwards + tD for Town Daegu, his hometown in South Korea) as his moniker for his solo work. He has been rapping and writing since he was 13 and was well known in the South Korean underground rap scene before being signed to BTS. Haegeum: the English lyrics & the meaning. Haegeum is a song about unlocking our new potentials, freeing something previously forbidden. The word “Haegeum” has a double meaning. On one side, it’s a traditional Korean string instrument that has a very peculiar sound, but this is not the authentic meaning Agust D/Suga intended originally. Haegeum” means “allowing/unlocking something that was forbidden.” Here is how he explained it in an interview: The word “Haegeum” came to me when I was young. I played rhythm games, I loved rhythm action games. When beating a certain stage, you’d unlock a forbidden song, then you could play a new rhythm. It was a “freedom from the forbidden.” Why don’t I try and break free from those things? This is explicitly confirmed by the English translation of the lyrics in Haegeum: This song’s simply about freeing what’s forbidden but you must remember to differentiate freedom from self-indulgence This song’s a haegeum Get on board now This lively rhythm A new kind of haegeum

did you have captions on? please always turn on CC when reacting to anything bts related also agust d is suga backwards and the dt stand for daegu town where suga is from. its like a alter ego but hes still the same person. haegeum is a korean instrument but has a double meaning which also means to un restrict/lift the ban. hes bascially telling everyone who tries to control idols to fuck off theyre humans too and theyll do whatever they want regardless of who likes it or accepts it. example bts V and bts Jungkook (the two youngest members which are 27 and 25 year old men) got into "controversy" last year and this year because V was caught smoking cigarettes and vaping and Jungkook forgot to move his vape off screen when he went live a few weeks ago. people were hating on them for that and suga said in his recent documentary on disney + "the thing about idols is that we don't have to commit a crime or do something that's controversial for people to blow little things out of proportion and judge us. like when a idol smokes a cigarette in a music video. say i get criticized for these things at age 31" he basically stood up for the younger members and told everyone to stop treating them like children or perfect beings cause theyre grown men and human just like anyone else. to understand how important this is you need to understand korean public opinion is everything for a idol/celebrity if the public hates you your career is done. cancel culture doesnt work in the west but it 100% works in korea. but bts have never been typical idols they never made themselves to be perfect theyve always been honest with what they feel, their opinions, their hardships etc made sure their fans knew they are humans not gods. and for the most part armys treat them as humans but there are some who dont and many korean public who think theyre the same as the other idols who are perfect beings and will fall into line instead of tell someone to fuck off. bts are tired of the way idols are treated and have been saying so a lot the past few years. breaking the typical idol rules like getting tattoos, cursing, drinking on live stream etc bts have criticized their government and risked being blacklisted so the fact people think they of all people would just accept these idol rules especially now that theyre all grown men entering their 30s is hilarious. i cant wait to see what they bring once they all get out of the military. back to the music all 7 member have solo music (solo songs, mixtapes, collabs etc) but starting last year they started to release solo albums before they each enlist into the military. thats what d day is sugas project before enlisting. bts are also not really kpop as explained above theyre breaking what kpop is so even calling them that doesnt feel right.

SUGA of #BTS and AGUST D are obviously different personas but in a way similar of the same person. For me, I’ve always looked at AGUST D as MIN YOONGI real self. Like our man as come for our souls with this modern intake of DAECHWITA. A unspoken fact, in my opinion as a Kpop stan for 15 years Ive only known BTS as the artists who are bold enough in talking bout those forbidden truths within and outside of their music. Im sure there other artists before them that attempted to bring light into dark side of the culture to try to break free of the old ways that are outrageously wrong in todays present world while in a new decade. From what I remember the plot shows good vs evil personas of himself (the mad king vs new blood - Old AGUST D vs Present AGUST D) as he continues the inner-battle with greed & temptation. *HAEGEUM means to lift a ban.* #HAEGEUM #AGUSTD
