You can't control how long you are crumbled, it's the same amount of time every time. Ground pounding in the shell forces you to stay crumbled longer than simply crumbling. So if you want to get up sooner don't ground pound and if you're forced to ground pound then you just need to wait it out. The only way to uncrumble faster is if you start falling somehow, but since you can't move while crumbled your best bet is to be pushed off an edge by the level design.

The timing is constantly changing. Depends when the star gets "puffed" out by the blocks and how fast you get close to the pipe to stop the spawning. The cycle from 1 star to the next, you stop it at different times.

I was wondering why Ryu wasn't timing it when the ice was down as well, but I just assumed he was focusing on trying smaller increments of timing, or that it was just difficult to execute.

I think you can affect the amount of time you're "crumbled" in the dry bones shell by how long you're holding down. Releasing it should get you back up faster.

With the dry bones shell… tapping down will make it collapse only briefly, but holding down will make it collapse for a little longer.

It's about moving away on the conveyor belt at certain ice block position. He just had to play and figure out which position it was. I don't know either. But that's what it is

☝️🤓 Here's why he gets sucked in sometimes. Physics. Notice how he slowly slides to the right even though he's not moving and the conveyor is going left. If Mario slides off the conveyor, all that momentum keeping him from riding it to the left sends him sliding to the right. It's like a slingshot: once the thing holding you back is gone there's nowhere to go but forward.
