Generations of guitarists have passed since 1958....and all see him as the inspiration with a big heart, whose modesty places him even higher on the podium of virtuosity in terms of electric guitar! Hats off to Hank for all the feats that rocked our youth and made us love the sound of the guitar!

Great guitar player, what I like about his sytle of playing is that he doesn't make the guitar scream or wail on the high notes, the sound is so crisp, I marvelled at the different sounds that he produced on one guitar, He's truly a craftsman at his trade.

Let's face it: Hank Marvin is a guitarist that has influenced so many others; including most of the famous guitarists you hear today. He can play anything in any genre; on either acoustic or electric!! He ranks amongst the greatest!! The only reason he has refused a Royal Award for Music (which he was given) is because of personal beliefs

Back in the 1980s I was obsessed with speed, shredders and fretboard flash but now I'm approaching my dotage, I finally understand Hank. The gaps between what he says with his fingers are just as important as the notes he plays. Read a novel as fast as you can and you miss every inflection and nuance but read it as Hank plays it and it comes alive.

I was a flashy widdly widdly guitarist in my youth, and I saw Hank as the opposite of everything I was impressed by (Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, etc). I once tried to prove that he was nothing special by trying to play Foot Tapper, and I failed miserably. What made it even more frustrating was that it doesn't sound difficult even when compared to other Shadows songs, but it kicked my arse. Now that I'm a better player, I've gone back to it, and while I can play it now, it's deceptively tricky. That fast ascending run in Peggy Sue looks like it'll be a challenge.

Indeed! First time I heard Hank's music was around the time I entered my last year at school, and my dad bought an album on vinyl, then later on CD, when it became the new thing. But I was just entranced by his style as dad and I would play chess and we would put Shads on in the background. I then got a strat-type guitar bought once I left school, and once I got the hang of it began playing the shads music as near as I could seeing as I played by ear. Nowadays, I've tried my hand at uploads too although I'm not as good as him, so my channel features a couple hank-inspired tunes here and there which is my tribute to how awesome and legendary his music really is. Nice one on this upload

Many years ago, it was 1961 and I was 11 years old, I first played a vinyl of 45 rounds of shadows (Apache). Since then, I have not stopped listening to them and I think H.M. the most influential guitarist of the twentieth century. He taught everyone a new way to play the guitar.
