(aqjhs here:) this puzzle was made for Scojo's weekly prompt, this time it was about look-and-say and dutch whispers, which seemed daunting at first... so the ill omen was the random choice of constraints.

35:57 If I have picked up one thing from Simon, it is to start colouring like a toddler on a sugar rush as soon as possible - so that's what I did with this one. After the initial look-and-tell-clues (getting the 1, 2, 3 and 4 into to middle box) I went all-out with 9 colours, solving the puzzle completely before ramming in the numbers. Very satisfying. (And yes, I also adopted Mark's pencil-those-thermos-as-if-your-life-depends-on-it. 🤭)

I finished in 61:36 minutes. This was a really cool variation on the standard Dutch Whispers rules. Figuring out box 5 was such a joy to do. I think my favorite part was utilizing the parity shift change that occurs to force 3 off the look and say clue for the right line and for forcing the left line to have a 9 as a 5 would have to exist next to one of that digit on the line. The rest felt very fun and fresh. I very much like the grid furniture in this one. There is something satisfying about the loops versus just straight lines. This has to be one of my favorites. Great Puzzle!

I believe the way to produce these lines is that they are not put into the sudoku software but are part of the background image.
@therealAQ7 күн бұрын
@@SirBradiator not background image, they are indeed put in the sofware.
@FireTruckFuel6 күн бұрын
That's even more impressive then! I suppose having clues as a background image is a bit dangerous considering the option to "hide background image." Would need to include that in the puzzle rules.
I liked this puzzle, but I thought the rules could be a little clearer, as I was sort of expecting the look-and-say clues to not include the cells marked with the dots, sort of like how arrow circles aren't including in the sum of the digits on the arrow. Reworded, it would be "...one digit indicates how many times the other digit appears on the line (including the cells marked with dots)"

What the puzzle looks like to me is 2 derpy lovely sockpuppet-like entities playing cards, but the left one is peeking. The top 2 laces are the entities, with dots as their eyes. The bottom 2 laces are their arms, dots as their hands. Since the left one is leaning over both of their cards, I think he's not playing fairly. Let's hope Simon's solve will make him pay for that naughty move.

One sign that I am becoming as good a solver as Mark and Simon is forgetting to read the rules (in this case the anti-knight rule) and being unable to progress because of it. :D I started this puzzle this morning but got so stuck and came to the video and when Simon read the anti-knight rule, that was a bobbins-worthy moment. In seriousness though, it is a disturbing trend that I am missing rules easily nowadays.

The aglet is the plastic end of a shoelace. My cat loves a tasty aglet. The hole is an eyelet.
@tchpowdog7 күн бұрын
I looked up aiglet, as I'm sure others have noted, it's the plastic sheath that goes on the END of a shoelace. But that's funny, bc I tend to remember concepts, instead of the words themselves. I would not have never remembered the word aiglet, but I would have remembered "there's a term for the plastic bit at the end of a shoelace and I can't think of it." Whereas, you remember the word and maybe not the concept... Idk, just struck me as funny how our brains work.
