Indonesia has a lot of tribes and ethnics. Those kids are from Batak tribe, they are well-known in Indonesia for having a good voice. Most people from Batak tribe can sing well. Once when I am in college, I was in a dorm with majority of the occupants are people from Batak tribe, every weekend it feels like having a mini concerts in dorm. They are playing guitar and sing together. My ears are so blessed. 😊😊😊😊

That’s how living in Indonesia we can just sing together with friends’ neighbours as loud as we can and no one bother

Bataknese is Indonesian version of the Filippinos. They sing really well and they like to sing in group. Harmony comes spontaneously for Batakneses. Most of Bataknese songs are telling about the beauty of their homeland or their love to their family. Bataknese is an ethnic with a long tradition of traveling far away outside their homeland, either to find jobs or getting some education. Singing has a special place in their culture, because it is their way to remember their origin.

I'm from Batak too, it's funny that we do karaoke wherever we are AND we are never taught to harmonize, we just instinctively do it. I don't know how. You can throw any song to me and harmonizing is just automatic in my brain. It's weird.

I'm Indonesian. And in my country Bataknese is famous as it has many good singers. As far as I know, you are right that people in Toba, North Sumatra has this habit to sing along when hanging up with friends. And also somehow they are good at singing. It's like they have this talent since they are young. And I'm still amazed everytime I listen to their singing.

Iam guessing this one is Bataknese. But for your information, most of songs you have reacted so far are using a national language namely bahasa Indonesia. I heard often that Efra referred to them as Javanese, but no. Javanese language use totally different dictions. Through bahasa Indonesia, people from many different ethnic backgrounds in Indonesia are able to communicate to each other. My mom is Javanese and I don't even speak the language. Since I've been growing up in Jakarta. I understand the language passively. Although I appreciate how you both are willing to learn our differences and uniqueness that ingrained in our culture.

This kids from batak tribe indonesia, in batak tribe majority is christian every week they will learn choir so it became their insting. So when batak people habe gathering if someone have an guitar they will ask hey who can make sopran, tenor, alto or bass after that just one sopran person sing one note the other already know. Thats way even they don't know each other they will make perfect harmonies. And adult of that tribe sing almost every night like that in bar.

Hi Waleska Herrera, by chance, I have been watching your show and I like your show as it shows the musical talents of Asians. Allow me to comment on the Batak people. I am Batak myself but I have lived in Singapore since my youth, when my parents migrated. The Bataks make up 3% of the total population. One of the many reasons why many sing well is because of the early upbringing of the children, where parents encourage them to participate in the worship services of the church. Part of which was singing as a soloist, duet, trio, quartet, or singing in the church choir. The early German missionaries of the Lutheran church, paid visits to the Batak land and did evangelism which concentrated on family social economic values, education, and importantly, love of God. That is why you will see many HKBP Churches in North Sumatra. Thank you and keep up your good work.

there are many talent search events that are broadcast on Indonesian national television stations such as Indonesian Idol, The Voice, Rising Star or others that have several Batak competition participants? Well, this is the reality. Do you know why the Batak people like music? Of course you don’t. But in general we should admit that the Batak people like to make music or sing. What makes Batak people like music or singing? We will provide some of these answers based on the facts we have found from some Batak people. Singing habit since childhood As the saying goes, the knife sharpens the sharper. Since childhood, Batak children are used to singing in church. Since toddlers are used to singing and listening to spiritual songs, go to school and join Sunday school. As he grew older he joined the church choir and got used to the distribution of complex tones. Especially when the important holidays of Christmas, New Year, and Easter are approaching, it is certain that choir practice is everywhere. It is the habit of singing in church that has the most influence in shaping the melodious voices of the Batak people. The more complete, at school they are also taught to sing, at home to gather with families who are trained to sing too. Batak people sing during birth to death events The Batak tribe lives in many philosophies. Starting from the birth procession, a service will be held to welcome new family members and in the service there will be a procession of singing, then moving to a wedding when they are adults, there are many worship services and in that service there are songs. In the event of adversity, worship will also be held, in that atmosphere of mourning, the song of lamentation will be heard. So from the beginning of life to closing their eyes, the Batak people were attached to songs of joy, happiness to sorrow. Habit of gathering The habit of gathering people with Batak ethnic groups has several characteristics, when they gather, they usually sing to play guitar, drink tuak in the villages, surely they will sing 3-4 album songs. Singing is also an important part of socializing the Batak people. Grace from God Singing skills are not for everyone. So if you can sing and have a melodious voice, that is talent. This singing talent is a gift from God Almighty. It could be that all of the above things are true, but what is certain is God’s grace that makes the Batak people have great singing talents that are recognized by the world for their quality. There is one Austrian composer, Herman De Lago, who loved Batak songs so much that he brought them to his concerts in Austria. It turns out that Batak music is liked by outsiders. So that’s what makes Batak people love music and singing. Not by chance or instantaneous, but there are habits that are honed and practiced constantly.
