MYTH: there were millions and millions of crown victorias made from 1998-2011
the truth is there was only a few hundred thousand Police Interceptors made and that number is astonishingly LOW in 2022
the more vics cleetus mcfarland destroys, the more value my personal collection gains

I think the reason why they're mainly gone is because most of the excess that was for sale for the last few years has been taken and they're getting to that age where a lot of them will be scrapped or parted. A lot of the older ones that are pre-2003 are starting to hit junkyards en masse and within the next ten years or so you'll start seeing the majority of last gen vics go away too due mostly to age and pile up of issues related to said age. Sad to say this but I don't think there'll ever be another durable, reliable body-on-frame sedan in the future since most of those would-be customers have moved on to the more utilitarian full-size pickup.

Of course insurance companies are doing this, it's hard to keep ripping people off when there are still reliable, long lasting cars on the road. Manufacturers are the same way. They can't keep lining their pockets if people aren't buying new cars very often! like the old saying goes, just follow the money!

Now that I started work as a Mechanic (technically a tech but I'm learning as I go along.) I have been able to replace the stuff that needed replacing now that I have the tools and a lift to do it. I bought at the Police Auction over 6 years ago for $2,300 and the only thing I have done other than regular maintenance was replace the heavy duty alternator 2 years ago . It is light blue with steelies and center caps . I put in an aftermarket center console that looks like it was made for it and a Kenwood stereo and Cerwin Vega speakers . I had a 2011 for 6 years.. it was junk, so I sold it and bought something else. There is a guy in my town who has one that seems to be in decent shape, he used it for work but then he got fired from his job and the car has not moved in ~two years. I caught up with him a couple weeks ago to ask about it, because I thought about buying it as a winter beater as it's obvious he is never going to use it again. He said it has something like 130k miles on it..but 5500 idle hours. He never did get back to me with how much he wants for it, but I know it's a pretty penny rofl. I sold my 2011 with SAP for $3k - it had 90k miles and only 9xx idle hours..

My lady works in insurance, she did auto for a few years. I asked her why Crown Vics got totaled so often for ‘minor’ damage. Her response based on her experience was mainly that according to insurance Vics aren’t worth that much and even minor accidents would cost more to fix then the value of the car. She saw a panther get totaled out for less then $2000 worth of damage cause the insurance valued the specific car as a $1500 car. She never heard anything about part scarcity though.

Yo, can't believe that CVs are getting scarce. Future owner here dude. I remember the time when I watched Die Hard 4, Bruce Willis whipping that FBI Police CVPI and used it to destroy a chopper. Race to Witch Mountain as well, 2000 CVPI as a taxi. Then, I also remember the CV taxis were colored Tiffany Blue during the 2018 Tiffany Paper Flowers campaign. Turns out they're not the P70/P7A long-wheelbase ones, they're actually retired P71s with Appleton spotlights on them (I like that actually, Caprice 9C1/CVPI taxis with Appleton spotlights). I wonder where they came from, probably DC Metro PD, NJSP, or Philly PD because NYPD doesn't use Appleton spotlights on their cars. Also, those P71 tiff blue cabs aren't actually blue, since the blue part is actually poorly plastered vinyl wrap. Even the black rear faschia had to be covered with vinyl wrap. Then, I wanted to share this; the Tiffany & Co. Believe in Dreams campaign (kzbin.info/www/bejne/a3zVoqKje5V7lac). Directed by Francis Lawrence (the guy known for I Am Legend, another movie with tons of abandoned CV taxis, both P72 and P70, and the Hunger Games films) and starring Elle Fanning (my favorite actress, known for Princess Aurora in the Maleficent films with Angie Jolie), that music video is full of CVs, and all of them lack the Ford badge in the rear, even the Police Interceptor badge as well. Those cars are probably fleet P72s since most of them don't have spotlight holes on the front doors, or maybe spotlight-less P71s. Unlike those used in NYC, the CVs in the video are actually painted in Tiffany Blue. I like that, a cute color on a tough car used by the toughest cops in the U.S. I would love to see a 1994-96 Caprice 9C1 in that color. And to add up to my nightmares, what about a Tiffany Blue-colored 2003-05 CV LX with CVPI front seat, cut in half, with flowers on the engine bay, seen here: elle-fanning.net/images/displayimage.php?album=1625&pid=80818#top_display_media. They could've used a full working CV and cover the engine bay so they can put the flowers there.

I had a '92 Crown Vic with the interceptor. I always thought it was hilarious when a car would start to pass me on the highway, see the spotlight and duck back in behind me again, LOL! I sold off mine probably about ten years ago.

Solid piece my friend. I think about stuff like this every time I see them kill one in the movies. Or a Bronco. Or any of the real classics. I really want to get my hands on an LX Sport despite the growing rarity and price. Unfortunately, I am in the latter category of just simply can't afford right now

Your passion for these cars is undeniable, and what you speak of is true for all cars that were once ubiquitous. As the years go by all older cars become fewer in number, and many go entirely extinct. There is another issue for the Panther, many people consider them to be plain boring looking cars that are pretty slow no matter how many muffler deletes or annoying modifications are done. In the modern Hellcat era, something with 30% power just isn't going to cut it. Reliable in stock form yes, exciting pulse quickening driving not so much.

yeah ur right bcs police crown vics were mostly used in car chases in real life bcs the where so fast and also pepole thought that these didn't break at all but yeah sometimes the break and its normal for a car to break so do agree considering the low mile P71 were used for short time patroling and most of us don't even care bcs crown vics are also daily drivers and the most buyed right now in the used marked are 2nd gens instead of the 1st that most of them got scraped so its good to say if u find low mile crown vic its not nessary to use it every day bcs u can win more money and also it will be a future classic

Not too long ago I would have been thrilled if someone gave me $5,000 for one of my police interceptors. Then it was $10,000. Now I wouldn't consider parting with one for less than $15,000-20,000. People can say that's too much or whatever, but that's what they are worth to me. And honestly I don't think $20k could buy me a suitable replacement vehicle that does everything the P71/B does. I could find faster, or bigger, or smaller, or more fuel efficient, but not all in one vehicle.

Good to know mine probably pretty rare…. Minty 07 146k miles that I’ve been restoring for a couple of years now and getting into modding lately. You should try doing an EGR delete man, mine broke on accident when I changed the original manifold for perform but so far it’s the BEST mod I’ve done to the car and I’ve done most of the mods from your channel… I would love to see what you think about it dude and it’s only a $150 fix but I bet you’d never go back if you did it. If you really want the full potential out of your engine I highly recommend it especially if you have a p71

In Canada I rarely see one come up in a 300km radius, when I got the chance to pick up a 2011 P7B for $3500 I asked almost no questions and jumped on it. My hopes is to share it at meets in relatively stock condition, give it some WOT every now and again but mainly let it live out its life. 187,000km 8200 idle hours, it's tired and i hope it will keep running for a few more years. I'll put an engine and trans in it if I have too

I have six P71/P7B. I used them for my security company. All are still running strong and all were maintained with OEM parts. Last year we were forced to switch to the 2017+ Explorers PIU due to lack of OEM parts. After 20 years of using the P71’s they are all out of service and sitting in the parking lot. I ended up with a 20’ x 8’ storage full of P71 parts and a bunch of body parts.

My ex destroyed my old car, so I decided to gift myself with a car I could baby. I got a 98 CV with 81k miles. $4500 which I can't tell if that's great or terrible in the context of this market, but it was either that or something like an 04 Jetta with 141k miles for $7500. Also I got it from a boat shop of all places and I think they were just looking to clear their non-boat inventory. It's a civilian model with a single exhaust, but I kind of like it that way. I like to drive on the gentle side so no need for Marty tunes or probably even sway bars. Just upgrading some old parts like moving to ceramic breaks and putting on some lips for some paint protection. Definitely needs paint work too as it's chipped all over, but it lived in WA most of its life so there's little more than a couple spots of surface rust to clean out. I want my little boy to drive it when he grows up--if I trust him enough.
