I bought my 99 CV LX 20 years ago this June with 50,000 miles. I am right at 370,000 right now, original motor, transmission, starter, water pump, etc. About time for brakes for only the 2nd time. Changed the intake manifold, fan and radiator, added dual exhaust, fuel pump twice, and new blower motor. Everything else is pretty much original. Most reliable car I have ever had.

One of the ways Ford worked on the development of the fleet vehicle program was sending a handful of specially prepared Lincoln's to the Kansas City Police department for testing. They were all supposed to get set back to Ford after the study and be destroyed but I know of a couple that slipped through the cracks and ended up as budget taxi's. I discovered this the hard way when I was running the maintenance shop for a cab company and went to replace a transmission in one of these Lincoln's. Needless to say I took it out of service and kept it for myself for many months.

Basically thicker sway bars, heavy duty transmission cooler and no air ride. An ID tag on the door piller was stamped property of the Ford Motor Company. The cars were featured in a commercial for Mobil One oil and had Mobil One Synthetic oil only in 3 places under the hood, one next to the Property of Ford tag and one on the dash that someone had tried removing. I tried my best to buy it from my work but my boss saw I wanted it way too bad so he figured it was worth as much as a damn new 2000 Lincoln... I told him what he could do with the Lincoln, his garage, the tow truck of his that I also drove, packed my tools and loaded up my two cars I was building and quit and never saw the Lincoln again. Did have a friend try to buy it but, the jerk wouldn't come off of it. From what I've heard it ended up wrecked and scrapped 🙁

The 4 mini card relays on the control board had to be changed. The headlights did suddenly cut out in dark. I did solder 4 new Omron relays. No all works fine. The frame on this is very rigid. But I had repainted with hammerite on some surface rust. They has salted ice roads here in Norway in winter. Has replaced Rusty rotors and brake parts. I use only Kendall motor and transmission oil for smooth ride.

Also, in 2005 these cars adopted electronic throttle, or throttle-by-wire. So the throttle body was different and so was the transmission. The pre-05 cars have the 4R70W transmission and the '05-up cars have the 4R70E. Although not super widespread, there were issues in the first few years, I think about '05-07 or so, of a bad signal being sent and opening up the throttle fully even without a foot anywhere near the accelerator. I actually experienced this myself in a 2006 Grand Marquis sitting at a red light and nearly rear-ended the guy in front of me. Thankfully I quickly threw it into neutral and cut the engine off. Again, I do not think this was a super common issue, but there are several hundred complaints about this same thing, so I certainly wasn't the only one. Not sure what they did, if anything, to resolve it, but personally I am staying away from the 2005-11s. I have a 1997 Grand Marquis now with 256k miles and it's my daily. Great, reliable car.

I've got a 1996 Mercury Marquis. No frame rot, no body rust, and runs and drives just fine. So far, after 25 years and 113,000 miles, its only real issues have been a coolant leak that I'm still trying to find. The car had regular service in its early years, but very little for the past 10 or 12. My only concern at this point is that it's gonna nickel and dime me to death catching all the little things that need replacing or repairing.

@@shamarthefucintruth - Yeah, I thought of that, but I find no evidence of a leak and the bearings aren't making noise. I've checked everything I can without getting under the car, or removing the intake manifold to check the heater hose underneath it. The next thing I'm going to try is putting a container of K-Seal in it and see what happens. If that helps, it'll at least buy me some time to find where the coolant is escaping without having to disassemble anything major. ( It occurs to me that the freeze plug between the engine and transmission could be the problem, for instance. )

I picked up a '02 GM LSE with floor shift and Handling Performance Package(HPP) with 120K miles for 2K. The front bushings and ball joints were original and worn out so I replaced the upper and lower arms with Moog But, I might put the stock lowers back on because it seems the Moogs raised the front almost an inch. It had a nice low stance before. I think the HPP option used different lowers than the other GM's. Coincidently my truck also raised up with new lower Moog arms whereas I thought I might have not set my torsion bars to the original height and now maybe not so. The GM originally had the airbag rear suspension that was removed before I bought it. I do need to replace the rear shocks(not looking forward to that) but, also wondering if it is worth it to put the airbags back in. I've never driven one with the bags so I have nothing to compare ride and handling to. This is my first Panther and I'm loving it so far. Parts are fairly cheap and plentiful and even last a long time.

The trac lock chirps the tires every time I pull out from a stop on just an 1/8th of the throttle! I saved it from rotting away in a buddys parents yard after she spit out a plug and he decided to just leave the poor thing for a year instead of getting it repaired. Its been a wild ride doing all the maintenance and fixing what was neglected on it for years, but it's a solid project so far and back to being a daily driver. I own a 2010 P7B the last two years of the vic are the best they coast more up front but they all have cast iron Romeo blocks and F-150 transmission and there on the F-150 frame mine has the j-mode ( shift kit) it's set up for E-85 these are hard to find they where all city cop cars and are very fast not many made it the cops gave em hell .

My spring mounts were so rotted out on my rear end i had to replace it, frame seems pretty decent no rot but anyway. This is a 2005 LX vic not the cop or the sport so i had something like a 255 ratio rear end ratio on the gears i was able to install a 2013 rear end from the junk yard purely stating "2013 crown vic 373" This has added a nice lil kick to my pickup. Don't get me wrong the harder you push the car the slower it seems to go so don't beat your tranny up! Nice middle of the road peddle push and let the gearing take you there these are comfortable cruising cars not rockets, you throw yourself and your personal belongings in this ride talking 5 thousand pounds + in weight. Now i have the new springs and shock or struts whatever they are idc they look like shocks, the 373 ratio has thrown my speedo off about 10 mph on the low end 60 mph is really 50 and 110 mph i believe is really 90 mph. so that will be my next project on my vic but cheers to all you vic owners they aren't going to make them like this anymore and i mean well built, fully loaded, smooth ride on the cheap!

Sorry for the late reply dude... Well now i read this and YOU are correct .. Some how some vics just go slower when you step on it ( they have a smaller Tq converter vs the Lincolns and The GM which is crazy... I had tha same gear set and it was bad, but in the Lincoln it seem faster than my patrol car ( tq covertor ) I am loving you plans with the Vic heers to you to bro... Had mods for days, BBK 78MM throttle body and plenum, k&n CAI, superchips programmer, 373s with T-Lok, cross drill/ slotted rotors, duck tail, Mach 1 chin, full magnaflow full exhaust. Damn texting and driving impala driver ran into me at a traffic light, total lost 😞.

1st generation: 1979-1991 2nd generation: 1990-2002 (1992, but '90 for Town Car, despite 1998 updated the cars) 3rd generation: 2003-2011 (few P71s did manage to have 2012 year) The 1992-'97 Crown Vic is NOT first generation of the car. It's the original boxy ones with the "LTD/LTD Crown Victoria" name. Although that was the first to have just the "Crown Victoria" name, it's actually second generation. And what's best year? Difficult to say, as ALL model year Panthers cars are built tough thanks to body on frame, usually very reliable in good hands, and have a V8, although yes, some years are better than others. I think the final year (2011) is best because it's most updated version you can get while retaining the 1970s design, though '03 and newer are great choices. Worst? I'd say pre-'86 before EFI came through for the engines plus transmission issues. I do have a Crown Vic, and it is a 1989 LX ('88-'91 are best looking in my opinion). The LTD ones had a larger engine than the 4.6L Modular, the 5.0/5.8L Windsor, and sound cooler, but they are sadly even more underpowered than the later cars. But every model year can be modified to have excellent performance, regardless of what build they are, and the Ford is LEGENDARY in police and taxi use. 33 years, buddy.

I'd have a 2 door body on the newest frame. 4 door cars are lame.
@bstfordchannel9234 жыл бұрын
in OUR hearts your statement is correct, but Crown vics only have 2 generation ( per Ford ) the Ltd was not a solid Crown Vic. Only the 92-up vic where the True vics per the name.. All of this is debatable the vic we speaking on that are really bad was 1992 and 2003 , but really many guys may have a GREAT running vic with the bad years i have mentioned. This for us to sit back and talk and learn more. i missed so many stuff this would been 20 mins worth of detailed stuff. Great comment by you here, i enjoyed this comment so much. And thats why i do the videos for the comment section.
