Its difficult to imagine that people of other countries cross the roads on zebra crossing. Lol, we cross when we want to. That zebra crossing is literally ignored. Also, we started cleaning our area after Swach Bharat mission was started by government in 2014. Before that there were loads of garbage at every corner of most of the streets.

The last float in any carnival parade is sure to be the rubbish truck. This is very much true as the Fashing carnival always goes past my apartment and it's a mess. Cheap chocolates everywhere but in the end there is the truck cleaning up. If you missed the carnival you wouldn't even know it happened because in the evening the streets are clean again.

I've lived in Germany for 20 months now, and find most of this quite accurate. Germany is by far one of the best countries to live in, that is, of course, if you don't like noise, mess and lack of order. :)

Hallo Miss Rachel, Aufpassen von Michigan, USA. True story, An old high school flame of mine or "meine" (?) Is very orderly. Last I saw him, he has a tiny toy car on display in his bedroom. If you touch, it or move it on the shelf, he will specify exactly where it was to the millimeter to put it back where it was. His voice is *so* bellowed you can probably hear it across the Atlantic! I told my spouse about that, I said, "That's why the power outage happened on the entire East Coast of America in the summer of 2002". The butterfly effect perhaps? You be the Richter. Peace! P.S. I see there is quite a bit of "Mull sich unterhalten" in Deutschland.

One of the main things that is very surprising is the lack of service and general niceties with shop keepers, they don't seem to care and in some cases they pretend they've never seen you before although you've been going there for years. I'll never forget asking an assistant about a certain TV. He said he didn't have it and walked away instead of trying to entice me to another model, never experienced anything like it in the Western world. In many ways Germany is not like the rest of the Western world at all, basically it's a ethnic country.

Viele Ausländer verstehen nicht, dass da dann eine Schlange komplett neu gebildet wird und dass bestehende Schlangen nur für die jeweilige Kasse gelten. Sie denken, dass die Schlangen an allen Kassen eine einzige Schlange ist, deren Reihenfolge zu beachten wäre, was in DE nicht zutrifft. Hier gilt: Neue Kasse, neue Schlange.

I was very impressed when visiting Germany when on train stations people were smoking relentlessly on the platforms right next to no smoking signs. This really bothered me because I’m allergic to this type of smoke, I even showed a lady the huge no-smoking sign she was standing next to, but she said it didn’t apply. 😕🤷🏼‍♂️

I had a different experience I was almost alone at the train station in the open air, 3am, smoking a cig beside the trash can thinking that it is (ok) An old lady gave me vacant stares and finally a passing by employee shouted at me angrily I would never do it again

This is the annoying part of Germany. Smoking was so normal in the 70's, 80's and 90's that lots of smokers still don't care. Not that of them lived in these times. They got this antisocial behaviour from other smokers.

Well, I'm from India and yearned for the same sensible people and moved to Germany. Huge disappointment I must say. All my "German" roommates are so messy that I cannot stand them. People are the same everywhere.. These videos are just marketing tactics to improve tourism and soft power.

@@MrGautham1994 young Germans tend to be messy until their late 20s. I think that this attitude may change when they get to live with a significant other (or child) to make a good impression. But if you live alone or with strangers as room mates you don't care what your room looks like as nobody important is going to look at it. I'm 24 and I usually only tidy up my apartment if I expect visitors lol. I always keep the hygiene of course but usually I have clothes and papers lying around. But hey, I'm a design student and I only grew up here, I was born in Russia. So maybe this makes a difference :P

Filling a job application is so interesting. There's a section which reads, do you always have things in order. For example, like your kitchen, how things are suppose to be. Everything is based on calculations with the Germans.

as a non german who lived in germany i found it exhausting. in some cases i really appreciated it as it was a very clean country but god applied to personal life and other people meddling in your personal life in case it feels like there isn't enough order according to them... exhausting!

All this and still, it's only my two "German" roommates who fail to clean the kitchen/ bathroom even when it's their turn, and even when they do, they do the bare minimum and it's still messy after their "cleaning". I, from India, and my other roommate from France have to over-compensate for them by going out of our way to keep everything neat as both of us can't stand the mess.

Amrit K.B I don’t know about studies about OCD in Germany but for example I need to have forks, knives and spoons grouped when putting them into the dishwasher. I really don’t like it when they’re all over the place. I also need to rearrange them if someone else put them in differently. I’ve been to India once and I was just making sure that I have my belongings in order. I didn’t mind the chaos so much because I knew I wouldn’t stay there permanently. I think it would have been different though otherwise.

Look up Qingdao, it was a german colony for a short time. In 20 years they built a complete city with a reliable post system, a railway and of course a brewery which is exporting worldwide today ...

it's not that bad.. I like to keep things clean, eg don't litter, carry your trash to the next bin, or after using something, eg a book, put it back to the same place, clean up after you have used something so that others can use it too .. these are the kinds of rules most people try to live by.

Exactly. I was fascinated by the fact that India is not using a dust pan while sweeping the roads. They sweep a lot from left to right and back again but dust pans seem not to exist.

They can't seem to do it right in Cardiff in the UK despite there having been a green bag scheme since 2005 for plastic, glass and paper.. It existed before but you had to pay for the green bags for a few years so people stopped recycling. When it was brought back again different things were allowed in the green bags so textiles weren't allowed anymore. Then garden waste bins and waste food caddies were introduced a few years after that. On bin day in some parts of the city the green bags are ripped apart by cats and gulls as most people in those parts put food waste and/or unwashed out food containers in them.

Well done. I wish you'd do one about how the Germans clean their homes and offices, and not just talk about it but show how to do it. I found it fascinating when I was there. Everyone was cleaning but they were so relaxed, as if they enjoyed it. I have never enjoyed cleaning anything in my life!

I would fit in just fine)) I believe in recycle, I love uncluttered and clean places, and I’m all for respecting your neighbors after 10pm and Sundays, which is a lot of workers only day off. Here in England, only in rich areas (neighborhoods) you will find that kind of consideration amongst neighbors. If you live in a working class area in London, God help you. 😂

Germans run to Italy 🇮🇹 on vacation to take a break from their stressig culture.. then when they return to Germany they mock Italians as being too lax. Ahh!!. however they really need Italians next to them as rolemodels of friendly flexibility. Living with the burden of conformity in Germany can limit creativity and happiness 😊 🌸

Yes. The Germans are very orderly. I was at a volksfest in the late 1980s and a fellow American and I were watching the Germans drive "bumper cars". The Germans wouldn't bump into anyone. They went around and around in a nice an orderly fashion around the track. Well, these Americans were going to show the Germans how to play bumper cars. Terry and I went freaking nuts on the Germans. We drove "against" traffic. Singled out the "WWII aged guy" to get bumped. He shook his fist at us. The younger Germans smiled and laughed. I loved Germany and the German people. :-)

All what you say is true including the Treppenhaus reinigung reminders. It takes some getting used all these rules. The fact that you can't go to the Baumarkt or a mall on a Sunday is often very frustrating when you're not used to it.
