Bugsy Fishing

3 ай бұрын

In Episode 41 Bugsy takes us fishing with yakkas on a Sydney ledge. Drifting the bait out under a float, searching for the elusive Longtail Tuna. Or maybe a Yellowtail Kingfish. But probably neither haha. Bonito keep following Bugsy around on his fishing adventures. Wherever he goes in NSW, there are the bonito. And Australian Salmon too. But when you can't beat them, join them. Enjoy the vid. Rockfishing is dangerous and not recommended. If you do fish from the rocks, make sure the conditions are safest and wear appropriate gear including light clothing, rock cleats (or other appropriate footwear) and a lifejacket.

We were catching a few Tailor and got one Bonito too up on the Mid North Coast last week. Highlight for me though, in what was a great little sesh, lots of bust ups and big bait balls. This guy hooked up to something really good. Anyway, in what for me, in my naivety, was a great show. Great display of fishing prowess from the guy. He landed a 10+ kilo Longie. Got a photo with him and his fish. Wow, what a morning. Those colours of the Longtail Tuna glinting in the sun, spectacular.😊

What bait jigs/sabiki are you using? I’m just getting into live bait and have found I only get yakkas if I bait up the jigs. One of my mates told me black magic makes a good sabiki that’s doesn’t need baited hooks
@bugsyfishing
@bugsyfishing 3 ай бұрын
I was using a Sure Catch sabiki with pink flies. Japanese writing on the pack with a photo of two yakkas. Numbers are 6, 2.5 and 3.0. But I can't read the characters. It was working with no bait. Hope that helps

Hey mate I really enjoyed the video thanks for posting. Relatively new to fishing and would love to try live baiting some yakkas. Just wanted to ask, what was that floating rig you were running? Cheers!
@bugsyfishing
@bugsyfishing 3 ай бұрын
Hey Ollie, I had a monofilament leader tied with a FG knot to the braid. I slide the float onto that leader and tie a rubber band around the mono to stop the float from sliding onto the braid. You can adjust this to the required depth. Then I tie a swivel on and add about 1.5m of leader to a 8/0 or 9/0 hook. Get a strong live baiting hook. Mustad Hoodlums are reliable. That's it. Wherever the rubber band is tied is the point where the float will stop - that is your depth control. I usually put it at least 3m deep but depends on how deep the area you are fishing is. Good luck!

Worst thing is sometimes fish don't take big jigs but only small ones but light line can't handle big fish

He has the traditional style rock cleats bolted to the bottom of his shoes. They last longer and are more economical overall. Means you need to take two pairs of shoes though - one for the hike in and one for the fishing
