Awesome Al, loved it - my dad always told me about this - will also go have a peek one day - optical illusion or not it's still cool. Apparently there are two actual magnetic hills in SA - Kwazulu-Natal: On the R74 provincial route between Greytown and Weenen. Coordinates: 28°55′15″S 30°11′49.8″E and Somerset West, City of Cape Town, Western Cape: Spook Hill, on Parel Vallei Road. Coordinates: 34°3′28″S 18°51′36.50″E - thought to mention it since we were on the topic ;-)

Thanks for a great story. I watch your channel as much for the stories as for getting a glimps of that magnificent car you drive. My dad and brother both bought Coronas from Denel Toyota in the early 1970's - one blue one red. I use to drive my dad's around often. Sometimes with his permission. Lovely cars.

Thanks for sharing that memory. Mine was resprayed at some point, but I think they tried to match the original blue. Would you be interested in an episode that goes into more detail about the car? I've been considering one.

I recently found your channel with the video on the creation of Johannesburg, I'm completely fascinated by the fact that things you speak about are not taught in school. I have a question about this one , which direction do you have to be heading in for this to work ? I'd love to go for a site seeing trip. Loving your videos !!

@@JustOfftheHighway Very well done. I would totally watch if this were a TV show. I can't remember and I'm sure this was when I was a child but there was an Afrikaans TV show, I think either end of 80s or the beginning of the 90s, where the presenter was an actor and on a farm and telling old ghost stories mixed in with old boereraat and so on. I remember what the actor looked like but not his name nor the name of the show. Like this, it was fascinating. Your presenting skills are on point!

@@JustOfftheHighway back in 89,went to Cape Town on honeymoon and of course to introduce my new wife to my folks as I stayed in Jo burg and my folks in Goodwood. As my wife had never been to Cape Town or Table Mountain,I drove up the mountainside road, all the way past the cable car entrance till up around the 4th or 5th bend,(that part of the road is now closed) we got the car, a 1977 golf 1500 GLS, it was dark, pulled up the handbrake, left the motor running, lights on climbed out the car and walked to the edge to look out over the inland and the ocean to the far left. The gradient wasn't very steep, we turned around expecting to see the car, but it wasn't where I left it, I run to the road and looked down expecting to see headlights showing up to the sky, my wife looked up the road, and she calmly Said, there's the car. The damned thing was inching along at a snails pace. Probably about 6 meters from where I left it idling. I ran up and climbed in and stopped it. The handbrake was on, but, I realized I hadn't actually locked the handbrake properly. When we got down from the mountain I spoke to a parksboard member about my experience, he stated that it may have been a magnetic field pulling the car along. So when I saw your story, it just reminded me of our experience on Table Mountain. However, the last time I visited the mountain, we noticed that that section of the road was barricaded and no one was allowed to enter. That was in 2021 August. It sounds crazy, but it was a heart stopping experience to say the least. 😆
