Best of all the SdJ nominees this year. We combined sets and played with 8-14 people at a recent con for over 2 hours straight, mixing numerous players in an out through the course of the game. With larger groups, we adopt the "no proper nouns" rule, which forces players to be more creative.

if 3/4 and 007 are legal, so is 123,123 as it is a standard notation for a number and is probably a happy coincidence rather than intentional. It might be argued that the comma is unnecessary, but so is the 00 in writing the number 7 and 007 is specifically listed in the rules as legal. "..." at the end probably not, but a similar legal effect could be achieved with 123.123 with a line over the three decimal places to indicate a repeating decimal.

Definitely. I tried to find the original "We are the Word" game well over a year ago, but it wasn't available anywhere, so I printed my own word list cards and laminated some paper and folded them into word stands - worked fantastically, and can accommodate even more than 7 players. We've played quite a few times with 8-14 players.

I hate to put more work on you, but in the future with these types of games, maybe edit to put the word on the bottom of the screen for viewers? Like the old Password/Pyramid game shows. There were a few rounds where you flipped the card over before the overhead shot.

What prevents a meta game from developing where one player is always designate to give the most obvious clue? That way, the group always gets to have the most obvious clue.
@MunchhausenPL
@MunchhausenPL 5 жыл бұрын
Why in hell someone would like to be that obvious clue giver and destroy all the fun? I mean c'mon, people. If your group does that, no rule will help you.
@atonaltensor
@atonaltensor 5 жыл бұрын
Of course it would ruin the fun. But that’s a different from whether the rules are airtight enough to prevent such a thing from happening regardless. You might think it’s a moot point, but an idealized set of rules should make undesirable behavior illegal, whether the players would be motivated to do so or not. That’s what separates a brilliant design from a serviceable one. See Codenames for example. I was a music theory student in college, and there’s an old paradigm that says the ideal work of music should sound as free as a Strauss waltz but be as mathematically rigorous as a Bach fugue. Likewise in game design: the ideal set of rules should be as liberating and fun as the lightest fluff of a party game, but should still be so airtight and rigorous that it prevents even people who are deliberately trying to break the game from breaking the game. The Mind was an excellent example of such a rule set.

You can't make a claim like "complete rip off" and then not provide the most basic level of evidence like the game name.
@xragg
@xragg 5 жыл бұрын
@@keel1701 Sure I can, didn't you see the comment? Seems like I made the claim. I am sure you have a photogenic memory of every interaction you've had and could remember the name of a game you played 10+ tears ago that you didn't own, but I don't. I know I thought at the time it was pretty similar to scattergories and was surprised it wasn't considered a rip off of that.
@keel1701
@keel1701 5 жыл бұрын
@@xragg accusing someone of a straight rip off is a serious accusation and is almost always unfounded and exaggerated. Without the title of the game or any description of the gameplay, no one can refute you. And you even admit the game was from 10 years ago and you didn't own it which means a) you probably didn't read the rules personally and b) you don't remember it with complete accuracy.
