Actually not true. The subs are out of commission because the Royal Australian Navy is waiting while they push through the next 6 DEI qualified female and transgender officers through their training. Not long to go , the course started last week , they've got one week to go. Meanwhile the male candidates for the same course have 52 weeks training yet to go.

@@mk1479 Disgraceful is a strong word. While the quality of out military leadership is terrible, and they are responsible for a great many of the ADF's problems, not this one. It was a political decision to stop production of the Collins class boats after only six boats were built and it was the politicians who delayed replacing the Collins class boats. There now zero chance of avoiding a lengthy capability gap before the SSN's come into service. The decision to buy SSN's could of and should of been made ten years earlier. The Collins class replacement was known as an SSKN for years, reflecting the fact the RAN wanted SSNs, but the politicans wouldn't commit.

In 2030s RAN could had operated 6 KSS III and 2 or 3 nuclear powered Virginia class till the 8 newly built nuclear powered submarines get built. The Australian government has left the RAN with a hole. A navy that can't defend

For between A$268 billion to A$368 billion by 2055, or roughly 0.15% of gross domestic product per year, what would purpose would the subs serve. Any surface or subsurface threats to Australia can be dealth with by the RAAF or the RAN surface fleet.
