Here's me setting up and testing AT&T's Internet Air CGW450 gateway. I show the phone app, advance web interface (with ALL the settings possible), internet speed test and other features. Its a long video since I show every step along the way and all the tabs in the settings. I plan to do many more videos on this service so stay tuned! I was not aware of their bundling but they offer this for $35 when bundled with a qualifying cell phone plan.

Better then T-mobiles fails. Their home internet boxes have NO fans. And overheats like a piss and slows down. Or just not respond. People mention having to restart the thing almost 20times a day. Atleast ATT waited to profect their device before going "WERE THE FIRST TO BE HOME INTERNET BABY!!!"

Its size probably has to do with the included fan and maybe a better antenna.

I've been using AT&T Internet Air for a week and it is amazing. My download speed went from 18mbps to 140mbps which is stellar. The setup was straight forward and basically glitch free. Because of the number of wi fi devices I have it took about two hours to get them all connected. The app is nice and so far glitch free. The modem/router combo is large but esthetically it is pleasing to look at so I keep it in the open. I am extremely pleased with this system and pray that no serious problems arise down the road.

great to hear! A comment on wifi devices, next time just change the wifi SSID and password on your new gateway/wifi router to match your old/existing one. Then all your devices will just automatically connect to your new gateway thinking its the old one.

Until there's network crowding. Then it's anyone's guess what the speed will be. ATT prioritizes depending on the number of users, and throttles almost everything they touch. 140mbps when? All the time? Non-sense and you know it.
@kingkobra1956
@kingkobra1956 8 ай бұрын
@aday1637 Yeah, I've been dealing with AT&T for as long as I can remember and have dealt with their BS over the course of time. The download speeds fluctuate wildly and their isn't any constant. The Air download speed has been from over 200 and down to 18. I constantly monitor it to see what's going on. When I had DSL my speed was 18 period so believe me I'm over the moon with Air.

I had the ATT Egg and had great speed, up to 300 mb down. I am only .2 mile from the tower. The problem I had was too many dropouts. It might reboot itself, but not always, sometime a power reboot. I stream a couple of audio channels and it would go off during the night like 4 AM, so it would be off several hours. I fired the egg and have a service, radio internet link from the same tower, lower speed but has not shutdown.

just installed. 10 minute setup turned into an extra 30 minutes with ATT on the phone and extra time trying locations. Desktop is landline, so fairly limited on location. I had major speaker interference with it. Finally found a spot that works better and has no speaker interference. Speeds are better than my Uverse/DSL, but they are highly variable... getting between 15 and 50 on back to back tests. still cheaper than 83/month for 10 though.

Great initial review. I see they reduced the number and type of ports when comparing to what was sent to the FCC. I would be interesting if you could try to setup bridge mode with your router to see how IPv6 prefixing works along with how / if they support IPv4 NAT for the bridge. Strange how the UI for this is the same as AT&T's residential gateways for U-verse, DSL, and Fiber services. I guess they don't want to run into having to support multiple methods of managing. With their bonded VDSL they do have IPv4 bridge (well as close as you can get) along with giving 8 subnets of IPv6. I have no clue why a /60 subnet of IPv6 on AT&T devices doesn't give the full 16 subnets.

Bigger sometimes can be helpful in reducing heat. Unlike the cramp box T-mobile has that has no fan and people need to restart it consistently. Plus it has really no setting features whatsoever. o.O???? Least ATT waited to profect their device before being like T-mobile to rush the ballgame and disappoint their customers.

Using AT&T Internet Air currently, and to watch this video, had to drop to 144p to prevent buffering. We had Fixed Wireless, and were forced to "upgrade". Now either we have a big white alien egg in a west window, and poor WiFi at the other end of the house, or we have a 300K download rate, but a wonderfully solid WiFi connection. AT&T made a Bud Light decision with this one.

Depennds.. you can get full bars and not have a high signal. It's like grading on a curve.. Get the network cell info app. It's meter goes from red yellow and green. You'll see that 4 -5 bars may be in the yellow... The better that signal the better chance you'll get faster speed. Also, not all towers have high speed internet like fiber going to them. You'll most likely connect to a closer tower. GPS will give you to a closer tower...

It's not a 'Charging port'. It's a 'POWER PORT'. Have you not heard of Barrel connectors? Proprietary is called a 'SPECIAL CABLE'. Barrel connectors aren't 'SPECIAL'. Nor is USB ports. So just cause it's Barrel port vs USB-C (Which you can easily convert with a adapter. Barrel to usb-C). Doesn't mean it's much different in suppling power. Plus there might be a reason why it's Barrel connector vs a USB-C port. As USB-C isn't standard. It's a flux voltage system from 5volts all the way up to 20volts. So expecting to power a device off 5volts that is purely for 12volts and you're using a 5volt only usb A to usb-C it won't work. Compared to barrel plugs that normally run off 12volts and above. You're not expecting to plug a barrel plug into a 5volt only device. But thing i question in some peoples logic in this. Is why's it matter if it's barrel jacked or usb-C? you can't use the USB-C from the device to your phone. Nor would you do your phone to the device.... And if you're thinking 'well it's easily replaceable.' So is a barrel jack. So that logic flies out the door. Plus Barrel jacks will have better thermal stay systems then a usb-c block due to a larger resister system that's converting 110/120/220/240volts to 12volts/etc. Then a thinner usb-c block that isn't as thick for supporting high loads for large period of time. ATT is also pushing this at a low start. Which they have a large push on their 5G low band performance. So the Air seeing 140mbps on low band 5G isn't to bad. Compared to T-mobile that pushed so hard on their Mid-band and launched their device to try hard to make speeds on Mid-band. Getting just around 300 on mid-band is pretty bland. But there are some who's seen almost up to 700mbps. But that is differ depending on users of the same tower flux. Att's focusing more on stability so granting Air on 5G low band as a stepping stone to get a stability look at how it performs before throwing it on a more massive scale of mid-band or MMwave as both T-mobile and Verizon both had trouble doing. It's good ATT started last to understand their network stresses compared to shipping onto the wagon and failing hard like the other two companies.

If you're getting poor cell service with your ATT phones or devices. It's VERY unlikely it'd perform better with the air. Since the AIR does run on the exact same network system as mobile devices do. So if you are using a ATT phone and it's on 5G and you're getting crappy performance under 18mbps or so. I'd avoid the Air and stick with what you got now.

For 'Internet' either would do since you'll never gain gig network with this currently till maybe they improve their Mid-Band with over a gig networking. As for the 10-giga connection. That would mainly only be used if you'd sync many companies up to it via a switch so each computer would have a large ability to transfer files super fast. But as for internet. It wouldn't be any different to the normal single gig network. The only bonus is the 10 would be better for home network transfer filing.

@KillerRaptorr
@KillerRaptorr 7 ай бұрын
Stick with your 'Wired' connection if you plan to play games and stream. Air runs on cellular network which is just like that little device in your palm. But since these home air pods that companies are trying to come out with. You're using 80% more data then you do on your phones which use lot less then normal and don't require fast pings as PC games do. So you'll run into quite a few itches if you went from wired to your wireless home air. Not to mention the fine print that ATT has right now. 'AT&T Internet Air limitations: AT&T may temporarily slow data speeds if the network is busy.' Which means if the tower the pod is connected to is being shuffled with the SHARED network of phone users that aren't slowed down yet. You'll likely take the hit first of being slowed from say 100 to 25mph or so depending on the congestion. Which also can sometimes hit pings abit. But as nater mentioned. Wouldn't be bad to take a trial run IF they allow for such. But if not. Don't bother. You may pay a 20$ higher price then air. But you'll take a HUGE amount of impact from the Air's performance difference compared to your internet 100 plan's wired network that is likely not taking any hits from slow down or performance degradation.
