I have a little compound that I've been using one LV 6548 sun gold model for about a year now or more and I haven't really needed the 18 KPv that's why I haven't hooked it up I guess that plus laziness.. I hope ing to be able to wire it properly. I'm still not totally understanding all the wiring so well. Thanks for the videos. I'll definitely be going over them again when I finally get that thing going. I'm going to have six server rack batteries. I'm wondering if I'm going to need to have battery communication. I wish they would make an outdoor rated 6000xp for people fully off grid that don’t want a loud inverter dumping heat into their house all day. I’m fully off grid and at first had my inverter (growatt 12k) in a closet but because of heat and noise I needed to move it into the crawl space which is a terrible location for access and I’m dreading the day it goes down. I may buy one of these just to have a clean location mounted on the outside of the house. I’ve thought about making my own box but letting heat out without any dirt in is a hard task.

Perhaps one reason to go with the 12K instead of the 18K is some Electrical Inspection authorities (such as the ESA in Canada) require significantly more approval (and permitting fees) for PV systems with more than 10kW of AC output.

absolutely love all the videos! but…. 🤣 no mention of price. i’d also like to know about decibels. opening it up, i know gets monotonous but is still fun- maybe that will come later. on a separate matter, i think a big perk for paralleling 6ks is the redundancy. if you’re really off grid, as in, remote, then it’s nice to know you have 1 or 2 more if one should fail.

I bought an 18kPV when they first came out (trade in... before the 6000XP's were available) & will need another inverter to go with it when I finish my house (23kW of panels) . Looks like I should have waited & gotten two 12kPV's? Price of being an early adopter I guess. 😉 Since you really can't mix & match their tech (inverters or batteries), I think another 18kPV is still going to have to be the plan even though I will never be on-grid & never net-metering. etc. My nature is to overbuild everything...the 18kPV accomplishes this, just at a steeper price. That said, as noted many times before, I really think SS/EG4 should make the 18kPV's, the 6000XP's & now the 12kPV's all play nicely together in the same sandbox. Thereby allowing mixing & matching as well as & ESPECIALLY forward & backwards compatibility. It gets awfully expensive trying to start over each time... unless you are you Will. 😂

VERY interesting! Yeah, I have had inductive loads well over that! I have a 5 hp 220 sander, that would not start (inrush on the motor was 180amps) on my system. I have 4 outbacks (3400 or so each). 70 running amps, and supposedly double that for surge = 140. Would NOT budge it. I am totally off grid, (closest line is 2 miles away). I have a woodshop that has lots of 3 hp motors. I've been off grid for 20 years. Back then, Outback suggested that inverters were not really meant to run motors like 3 hp. (I've done just fine). I've wanted saws that were a bit bigger (my bandsaw and my main table saw are each 5 hp) so I finally figured out to use 3 phase motors with a VFD for each, and use a soft start. That has made things MUCH better. But now I'm getting ready to upgrade my system. I'm sort of limited because all those old devices were built off 12 V systems. I have a couple Lead acid batteries, (fork lift type) and as I said, the inverters are getting old. I'm looking to invest in 48V system, and going to Lithium ion, or maybe even to something newer, like sodium ion in a couple years, (I can let the current batteries last for 2 more years I think). I was looking at the Victron, or the Sol Ark, but maybe the EG4 is an alternative. Certainly a bit cheaper. I was hoping to go below 15K running watts, and would want close to double that for surge, just in case I even wanted to run a 5 hp motor that was NOT 3 phase, but maybe 12K output is ok. My limitations now are battery really. I have more solar than I can use now. with the 12V, just can't use it all. With 48V, then it would be great! so the 12 K has great surge, what is the surge on the 18K?

Just add a soft start unit to the 5ton AC unit (~5Kw), even a smaller system unit will start it since there is no Locked Rotor Amps surge. I did that to my own 5 ton AC and can be easily run with a 6kw generator.
@thaddeustroyer4 ай бұрын
If you wanted max inrush, the best way i know if is to have the compessors @ 80-ish psi, this will give you the hardest start for the compressor and max amp draw, then also have your lift ready tongo with the car off the ground raising the vehicle. Then if you want to add a resistive heater/hairdryer (or 2-3) on max. That might have tripped the 12k? Idk, just an idea. Love the video and also a great test/review

What EG4 Inverter is recommended for priority of "1. Solar PV Power | 2. Grid Power | 3. Batteries | 4. Generator?" Where Solar is used to power ac loads while keeping batteries full. Don't want to supply power back to grid. Only use grid as needed for back up like a generator. Only use Batteries as needed if grid and Solar is not available. And last to only use gas generator if grid is not available and battery is not enough or too low.
