This is cool. I wish my city would shut down the main street to cars. It's really only a few blocks downtown, there's a ton of bars and restaurants there, and in a car it's kind of tight between the parked cars and the other lane, and then people trying to cross the road. Just make it a cafe style Street with bike and pedestrian access

Goddamn that is a beautiful car-free road. This should exist in every major city, and small town.
@untubeable50912 ай бұрын
All major cities should be pedestrian and bicycle oriented (exception for commercial/emergency uses), and offer a reliable and safe public transit system. That will generally improve road safety and reduces emissions. But if more people were to drive like you, it's better to remove all bike lanes as well and only rely on public transport or walking. Let me list all the things you did wrong: - You hit a Taxi (0:16) and drove off. - Passing multiple red lights - Not stopping/slowing down for pedestrians on crossing without a signal - Ignoring a 'Do not enter' sign (1:34) - Not even using all bike lanes (1:18, 1:34) - Driving recklessly (1:25, 1:40, 2:40) Then some other things you said: - Busses run on a schedule. Whenever they can, they follow the speed limits. In the case of 3:24 , the speed limit is 25 mph/40 km/h so they try to go that. Or you want busses to always arrive late? - What you said at 4:08 is not true at all. With more and more bike lanes, more and more bikes will used until eventually there will be too many bikes, thus too much traffic again. - A bike is neither a 'fast pedestrian' nor a 'slow car' (you got that correct), it's a bike. If you really want bikes to be a better alternative to walking or driving, then you (and a lot of other bikers) need to be riding with a lot more care and patience. Edit: Grammar and formatting

Can you please make one of these for all the traffic infractions you saw the car and truck drivers make? I'll wait, thanks!
@untubeable50912 ай бұрын
@@jamalgibson8139 There are a lot of traffic infractions on the car's/truck's side. But if we were to look at the Pedestrians and Bicyclist, most people are doing what they want. But just because others are not following the law, doesn't mean @miser-micromobilitynyc3628 is exempt from it. That would just create of constant loop of people breaking all sort of rules.

Do you always obey traffic lights as a pedestrian in NYC? Jaywalking has been legalized now, because traffic lights are for *cars* not people, and jaybiking is basically the same thing.
@untubeable50912 ай бұрын
@@jamalgibson8139 Why should jaybiking be allowed? I'm not in NYC, but I do follow traffic lights as a pedestrian, even if others don't. Why? I'm not trying to kill me or cause trauma to others and I've got patience.
@jamalgibson81392 ай бұрын
@@untubeable5091 Traffic laws are for car traffic, not foot/bike traffic. Cars are extremely dangerous and need to be heavily regulated in order to minimize the carnage in the streets. In contrast, people walking and biking is not inherently dangerous. Yes, biking is more risky than walking, but generally riding a bike is no more dangerous than running. So if you're walking in a city, why should you have to wait around for a traffic light that's not designed with your movements in mind when the road is free and clear of the dangerous machines known as cars? The same logic can be applied to bikes. Imagine a city with no cars, but plenty of bikes, would traffic lights still be needed? In some select instances they might, but generally bikes move at a human scale and so they should be able to follow the same rules as people on foot, namely, just be careful and don't run into people or objects.

Perhaps this works in NYC. I’ve never been there. But this isn’t a one size fits all solution. They are doing something similar here in Houston to a few roads that are normal congested with traffic. I don’t think it will work because most commuters here are not single adults without children, and have a commute farther than is practical for a bicycle. While some locals might benefit, it will come at a greater cost to others. I’m glad that bicycle commuting works well for some. But it’s not practical for much of the country. I keep a bicycle in my car. I’ve been able to enjoy some of the bicycle infrastructure that has been introduced in the recent years. But changing my commute from an air conditioned 20 minutes to a sweaty hour+ without a shower available isn’t happening. Happy motoring 🐅

I'm sorry, why did you feel the need to comment about Houston infrastructure on a video about NYC infrastructure? If you have a complaint about what's going on in Houston, go to a Houston video and make that complaint. Happy cycling. 🚲
