I like the hidden wordplay in this battle. Cubes attacks mostly revolve around the environment rather than direct attacks, and they tend to attack around the edges of the screen, forcing you to stay “Close to him”.

This level and the cube is a good allegory for how difficult it is to reach out, and how hard it can be to watch someone close to you start to decline. sometimes it's hard not to hurt people by accident when you are so sad and angry at the state of things. Sometimes it's hard to express your feelings without being harsh or wanting to run away from them.

In general, the phrase "Close to Me" in the JSaB universe can have several meanings. 1. It is used by corruption to lure the player closer to their already infected Friend (and infect the player themselves, of course). 2. The player is still, well, *close* and dear to a Friend, and he tries his best not to succumb to corruption (you can see by the sections before the laser that occur after each attack, as well as by the scene where you can't help him in any way) and the phrase "Close to Me" is a cry for help. 3. Well, a play on words, where at the level you literally have to stay "close" to Friend in order to avoid attacks, also matters. tbh, this cute lil guy is much stronger than he seems, he is the only boss that literally restored his body from corruption in the end of battle (triangle just made the work ultimately done), unlike every freaking boss. and also - not everyone will be able to use their cat ears as a DEFIBRILLATOR, DAMN it- didn't think that a game about simple geometric shapes would make me cry.

It's a small tale of a friend, a close friend, becoming corrupted and forcing you to face off against them in order to save them. I feel like there was more effort put into this boss than Annihilate. So, most of the attacks revolve around the edges of the screen. Implying that, you want to be close to him. Like the song name. And then there's the laser part, where he reaches out for you, because you're too far. But then he gets zapped, implying the demon doesn't you to be close to him. This amount of effort also shows how, losing a friend is super tough. As well as the difficulty. I'd say it's harder than Annihilate. The final attack also implies to get even closer than before, and eventually it spins so fast you have to dash. Like you'd dash to help your friend. And also, since you're closer to the cube, it's like, again, losing a friend. You miss them more and more. So much effort was put into this battle. JS&B had a lot of thought put into it. Take it from not one battle, but the game itself.

This game is cool, and this boss is the best one.I was the one who really cared about Cube getting corrupted and trying to get out of the corruption. Also, this battle shows that Cube and Small Cube were really good friends, because we don't kill him, like we would in any other game. Second, his attacks are designed to keep us close to him, what says why there is the so-named song

This is such a beautiful level. Both the song and the level itself perfectly portrays what it’s like to lose friends. To horrible emotions. You watch them slowly turn into a monster and eventually all you can do is survive. It’s crushing. It makes me angry. This is the best level in the game.

look i know im not the only one to say this but this whole boss fight is really well thought of yes im using knowledge of what everyone else is saying most obviously know a lot about the fight 1. The song name, Close To Me literally means it,in fact the whole boss fight revolves around you dodging their attacks by staying close to him/her. In fact mid fight when they're crawling,they reach out to you as if they're saying you're too far away 2. Their facial expression before an attack warns you about the next attack they're going to do. yes the claw part counts,as using their right eye and frown,they make up a claw the whole entire features i just stated shows that they're trying to protect you and they are trying to fight through the corruption i hope i summed it up ..jeez i just took other peoples words and stuffed them in my ow comment..what kinda monster am i

i love how this fight goes from him slowly getting corrupted and then midway he starts escaping the corruption just to be grabbed back in almost fully corrupt until the triangle saves him

If you look closely, you can see that the version of corrupted cube at the end of the main attack (the one with spinning lasers in between the other attacks) signifies the next attack ex: gear eyes is the one with the gear, sawblade eye is the one with saws at the side

Honestly the song will make more sense when the new update drops because it is a unused chapter and the only thing that big cube does throughout the intro of the game is hugging small square so it's neat seeing the devs putting effort into finding the perfect songs

Didn't they start to think that the cube (friend) could be expressing their fears in us? but... not to hurt us, but rather... I think he does it for help and looking for someone to save him from his state... Another thing at 1:34 is how she falls defeated (probably from exhaustion) and she seems to ask us for help but she seems to lose control and attack us again but also... At 2:58 there is no more singing and ´close to me´ is not heard anymore and only the instrumental in the background is heard. I feel that this moment feels more serious because ´friend´ does not seem to show any more signs of some kind of feeling more than anger and sadness but the last thing to emphasize is that the first time I heard this music I felt that 'friend' was a person who couldn't confide his deep feelings to absolutely anyone because every time he did, he got hurt a month and worse... Something that occurred to me is that the little blue cube could be her last friend and she, afraid of the same thing that happened last time, tries to get away little by little from him so that he can only forget her and not hurt him again but the idea also occurred to me that she says "close to me" because she is trying to distance herself, but the little blue cube knows that she has all this storm of problems and she doesn't want to leave her alone, that's why this fight happens because it's the girl trying to get away but her friend refuses to leave her alone... And one thing, I noticed that (almost) nobody talks about after the fight, that is, how 'friend' breaks down and they are happy, what would happen here is that the girl finally confesses everything to her friend and his friend rather than leaving her Alone she survives the wave of confessions and tears to later treat her understandingly and calm her down. Well I think I have to stop because I wrote almost an entire book around a music of cubes and circles. If so, I think that 'friend' looks like a girl especially after they give her those 2 cat ears.
