GTA 4 can really be chaotic sometimes. I remember leaving from my PC to take a dump and didn't paused the game. First thing I saw when I came back to the game was 2 corpses and 2 cops arresting someone.

When the police put a suspect in their car, you can enter it before the driver gets in and kidnap the suspect and sometimes the cop in the front passenger seat since they won't leave the car as long as you don't hold still or drive too slowly. I sometimes do this and drive straight into the ocean.

Random events like these is the reason why Liberty City feels alive. The NPCs in GTA IV are far better programmed than most of the other open world games (*cough* Cyberpunk 2077 & Watchdogs *cough*)

the npcs in wd2 are actually really well done and reactive, just recently I witnessed a male npc started an argument with a female npc and they started punching on, and she knocked him out but another npc saw the fight and called the cops and she got arrested. And then I drove around a bit and when npcs in wd2 get in a crash they will sometimes get out of their car and start arguing, I saw a car crash had happened and one of the npcs shoved the other accidentally into the path of a truck in the other lane and he got hit, then the truck driver got out shocked and I scanned his details and it said he was “cursed by a fortune teller”

That one time I got an absolute bingo. I was doing No.1 mission, and before the race I wanted to play some banger music, so I stopped before the marker and skipped through Independence FM. It took a while, maybe 4-5 minutes, while I was doing that - one guy rear ended another guy, so they got out and started brawling. They fought hard, but one guy accidentally broke some other car window, so there was a 3rd person joining the fight. Eventually, some old lady noticed them fighting, and called the cops, about that time one guy was already down, and two were still going at it. Police came, and saw dudes fight, so they came in running and got one to surrender, the other one attempted escape, but was crushed under the ambulance that came for third guy. So, one dude got escorted to cop car and taken away, downed guy was treated and ambulance took him away, and crushed dude eventually got up and drove away on his own. What is cool about all of this - it's a totally random event, I wasn't supposed to see any of this
