Randy, I'm 68 and retired a few years ago. I fish maybe twice a week and I bought a LS. I dont feel bad or guilty because I will not live long enough to learn the 1000 ways to fish a laydown. I don't keep my fish, I don't fish tournaments and I dont know that I catch a lot more fish with the LS. But you know what , its fun to see what's going on down there. I don't stand over it and miss what's going on around me, and guess what, I'm learning a few things. I dont wear a flat brim, I'm just an old guy that likes to fish once in a while. I have no problem if the big tournaments stop the LScopers, but dont take mine away.

@@rumcoke9123 I promise the fish have as much chance now as they did before and I am learning a lot more. I might see a laydown and what it looks like underwater, I see a ledge and know where it is, I find rocks and brush piles and then I know where they are. I can't say that I never see any fish, but I still have to learn what to throw and how to present the lure. It ain't locate and load up but I'm having fun and not hurting anything. I catch and release every fish I catch. When I go back to these spots, I don't even look for fish, I look for my spot. Sometimes I catch and sometimes I don't and it feels amazing to learn more each time out. I don't feel like I'm cheating, just learning quicker.

I am leaning more toward banning or severe regulations for FFS. I am also for a more regulations on the number of tournaments being held, and eliminating live weigh in’s. Bass fishing has changed drastically many times. It will need to continue to change if it’s going to survive as a sport. I see the use of forward facing sonar, as sight fishing and I see sight fishing as an art form. There used top sight fishing pros out there that would dominate during the spawn, Of course this kind of fishing is also controversial, many tournament organizations have stopped doing tournaments during the spawn, nun the less it is an art to be technical proficient at Sight fishing. I fished the U.S. Open this year again, and most everyone had forward facing sonar, but again it was only an elite few that were really good at it. Not all of them were young. I don’t know if this can be done, but what if it was possible to limit the bottom reading on FFS to say 30 feet? Just an idea that would help with fish mortality.
@toddg.26382 күн бұрын
For me, it comes down to fishing which relies heavily on finding them based on experience versus catching. FFS removes years of experience from the sport to where all you're left with is catching. Anyone can catch a fish. The challenge is finding them.

I can find them all day on FFS and have yet to catch a single one of them.
FFS doesn't cause any 'damage', BSEs absolutely do (bass slaughter events) ... your thesis that the young angers don't have any skills is proven wrong almost on every tournament ... MLF Team series just finished up down here in Florida where no one was using FFS, 2 young pros caught 60 lbs bass in 6 hrs the day AFTER a major cold front and never turned on their FAfS once. Please explain how they managed to do that? I'll wait ....

I am not a bass pro and I don't try to be. However, if what Randy says is true then side scan, clear view, etc are the slippery slope that got us here. As far as that goes a flasher was the beginning. Maybe a "true" bass pro wouldn't use any imagining. I'm not a pro, but Rick Clunn is. 16 B.A.S.S. victories, two angler of the year and the oldest person to win the B.A.S.S. Elite series when he was 69. He is for forward facing sonar. I guess those of us that fish off shore salt water should just troll around thousands of miles until we happen on to some fish? Maybe I would feel different if I had 24 hrs a day to fish, but I don't. Time is limited. I have found that FFS disprove a lot of ideas and has explained fish behavior better than ever before in the history of fishing. Before FFS even the pro's had to just guess what the fish are doing in deep water, how they react, how they move and what interests them. I agree that fishermen are different today than in the past, however that's true of any sport. What did you think was going to happen with the increase in technology in fish finders? I didn't hear anyone complaining about the tech is getting "too" good, and we should slow it down when side scan came out. The sky is not falling and I have learned more about how fish behave since having FFS, not less.

Most people live for today. Not thinking of tomro. When God made this planet it was not intended to be treated as it is and if not took care of it will fail just like our bodies do. And for the tech people have just gotten lazy if the can cut corners to achieve a goal well here we go. I take pride in figuring out where and what fish want. Had a guy crappie fishing across from me the other day scoping I seen him boat one fish. As I put 5 or 6 in the boat. I have followed scopers and caught many of the same trees they where scoping I love it I can here them mumbling sometimes 😂. We are kinda like the cowboys of the old west not many left. And as long as tournaments and people have lots of money to spend it will probably get worse. If you have fished both FFS and without you know how upsurdly overpowered that this technology is. If you think you can fish just as well without it you are absolutely delusional. There is literally never a reason to fish without FFS anymore. It's a way for people buy "skill". Sure that skill can be picked up in a half hour by most 10 year olds, but I'm sure the livescopers are excited they can finally catch a fish. Really sad. People try livescope and go "omigawd im so gooood at this!" and will bend over backwards to trick themselves into thinking that their input had anything to do with it. For reference, I've been (actual) bass fishing for a long time. I have an elderly friend who does tourneys. He took me on his boat one day to try FFS. Never had less fun in my life. You can literally follow fish until they're exhausted or irritate then until they bite anything. He took it off the boar after that. In my first hand experience its something an old man can learn in one session and see massive "success". Never met an angler who enjoys it or thinks its good for the sport.

Ffs is fishing for dummies. Ffs is like if MLB stopped making guys hit pitches and just allowed them to use tee ball stands because hitting a pitch takes a skill they don’t have. I know you can’t fish as soon as I see the ffs unit on your boats

Wanna know why your viewership is down…..here you go. Attacking a whole generation of anglers is NOT the way.

I disagree with the way you handled this Randy. You always remind us drama gets views… well u insulted 1000s of fellow anglers but hey u got ur views!

The only ones I'm insulting are the electronic companies and tournament organizations

@ well I assure you the way you are presenting it makes people think otherwise

I can tell Randy you have not spent much time around High School angling. The coaches (at least here in Oklahoma) are giving these young men & women valuable skills and information to the world of bass fishing & very seldom, if ever, refer to FFS. Perhaps you are speaking of a different age group ( 20 somethings ) I would challenge you to not take such a narrow view of our youth...

Unfortunately there are many guys who watch him who seem to have such a narrow view of younger anglers as well. I see it in the comments all the time. Its quite dissapointing.

They shouldn't need coaching.Learn like the rest of us did from fishing with friends.Or maybe like me teaching my son to fish.Figure it out.

High school tournaments dominated by kids whose parents have FFS on their boat. At least when I was beaten in Highschool events, I knew it was because the other angler out FISHED me. Not because they were bed fishing over 50 foot of water all season.

@@ronsaunders4491In the state of Oklahoma our HS fishermen/women have to have a boat captain in the boat. Thus many High Schools & Junior High’s have called on local bass anglers to coach/teach our youth. It is awesome to see these older men & women interact with the youth. And they absorb so much information.

@@ronsaunders4491 Well, some of these youngsters don't have a parent with the means to provide this or a brother or sister in which to share the outdoors with. So they learn from who they can, which are local anglers willing to take time to teach/coach these children techniques that will enable them to catch fish.

And to add, "Real Bass Fishing" is not shallow water fishing... I don't think Paul Elias had FFS and I am pretty confident he wasn't fishing shallow when he caught 132 pound on Falcon in 2008... Tell him that he wasn't doing real bass fishing...
@winstonrocco19812 күн бұрын
But he didn’t use ffs !
@mikejuby2702 күн бұрын
@@winstonrocco1981 No he didn't, but according to Randy he wasn't really doing "Real Bass" Fishing because he wasn't shallow water fishing.

You talking about something you have VERY little knowledge about. This is so far off from what it actually is. No doubt its "easier" to present a lure to a fish which equals more fish catches but its not the way you make it seem. Back up what you say by fishing the Pure Fishing tournament trail. No ffs allowed. If youre an advocate for no FFS then you need to show up and support that trail epecially it being local to you.
