I can't agree. I have been an ardent buyer of Ledaig 10 for a couple of years and the last couple bottles of the old label have been cloyingly sweet, enough to make me return to my 2nd fave, Laphroaig Quarter Cask. However, since buying a bottle of the new label, my faith has been restored and I have seen an increase in complexity! It might be a difference in batches. Check the levels on your bottle (oxidization) and also check the left side of the new package, because mine says Aged 12 years! Even though the main label states 10. Good review, thanks.

Thanks for your response. I’ve heard about the 12 year thingy but haven’t seen it first hand. Maybe batch variations or simply my palette. Ledaig is/has been probably my favorite dram of all time so maybe I’m hyper sensitive to the nuances of batch variations? Appreciate your observation. Cheers 🥃

@@justwhisky Ledaig is an amazing dram. The 12 year thing I believe means it has between 10 and 12 years in it. I hope the price stays low, it's $70 here in British Columbia. I discovered it by accident and have been buying ever since. A hidden gem.
@darkoanton53 жыл бұрын
Yup. I find the new Ledaig 10 a more complex peated Scotch then the Islay Scotches I've tried. Truly a great and well-price Scotch. Maybe only Arran 10 is a better clue where I live.

I have finished one and have three of the new version. It is my most purchased Scotch.

Great review, thanks! If you look at the Ralfy reviews of Ledaig 10 (one 7 yrs ago and re-review 2 months ago), the newer bottling looks darker, but that could be just video. 🤔

Definitely batch variations.

It's funny to think of Ledaig today, I just picked up an Ardbeg10 as a backup. I have 2 old bottling of this nectar from the Isle of Mull

Sad to hear the reduction in quality. I tried the Ledaig 10 (new bottling) recently and fell in love. Now I'm not sure if I should hunt out an old bottling sample to compare or leave my mind untainted by the comparison LOL

Thanks for the side by side John! I saw a few old bottles in an out-of-the-way shop a couple of days ago, I may just go back and grab a couple! They also had some Tobermory 10, do you think those are worth bunkering as well?

I just came across some older Ledaig 10 all in the older black boxes. There are a couple 2014 bottles (pale straw), a 2018 bottle (definitely darker than 2014) and a couple 2019 (same colour as the 2018)… since your a big fan of these I thought you’d be the guy to ask which ones are the best….the person working at the store said there all the same until I pulled some out of the boxes, she was shocked 😳
@justwhisky3 жыл бұрын
Wow…great score! Don’t think I’ve had the 2014 but 2018 & 2019 most likely have. Great juice. I’ve just noticed a difference in the new bottle but it could just be batch variation. All integrity bottles. Sounds like you landed in Ledaig heaven. Jealous 🤩 Get back to me in time with your results. Always curious 🧐 Cheers🥃

Nice review. I like both vintages but I am skeptical of the natural color on the newer bottle. Also. Does your new bottle say aged 12 years in the fine print? Yet it has a big 10 on the front? Do I detect a Massachusetts accent?

I was so confused. So last month I bought 2 bottles for drinking with friends and yeah they were gone and that was the new packaging. So I wanted a bottle for myself and went to a (cheaper) shop where you pay like 10-12euro less for most scotches. (In high range scorches even 20-30eu less so yeah I found my whiskyshop where I go allways) But here I bought the ledaig 10 in the black box. So I didn't watch the full vid but if the black box stuff is better I go back and buy a lot off them. Okay saw it and have to go back now.
@justwhisky2 жыл бұрын
Batch variations for sure in all packaging but I found the black box to be more consistently impressive but no matter the L 10 is very well priced so one cannot go wrong.

@@justwhisky Thats's true. It's not even 50eu. More like 47. One off the best scotches for the price/quality.
