It's a love story: very heartfelt by Luciano, the story is about a man who wants to marry the princess, but the queen will allow it on one condition: they must not find out his real name until dawn, or he will be killed. So all the servants go around asking all the people in the reign who are obviously not allowed to sleep (Nessun Dorma: Nobody sleep!). If he were to succeed, at dawn he would WIN (all'alba, VINCERO'= AT dawn I WILL WIN). Luciano sings as the person who will either be killed or get to marry the princess (sorry for poor English)

Nessun Dorma, translated to English... Nobody shall sleep!... Nobody shall sleep! Even you, o Princess In your cold room Watch the stars That tremble with love and with hope But my secret is hidden within me My name no one shall know... No!...No!... On your mouth I will tell It when the light shines And my kiss will dissolve the silence that makes you mine!... (No one will know his name and we must, alas, die.) Vanish, o night! Set, stars! Set, stars! At dawn, I will win! I will win! I will win!

Have you heard his versions of other arias? I adore Pavarotti - he's my all time favorite. I agree that this performance was unbelievable and absolutely great. But I think he did even better in the 80s - well, technically speaking. And Nessun Dorma isn't even the best aria (for his talents and magnificent voice; his strong lyrical voice could do much more) if you ask me. Che gelida manina, E lucevan le stelle, Una furtiva lagrima, Possente amore, etc... - even more stunning and beautiful.

TBH this is not a great exibition, in 1994 Pavarotti was already in the waning phase of his operatic career, and this is not opera, this is a pop exibition for American people. To make a sport comparison, this is like a Federer vs Nadal exibition match not a Wimbledon final.

My mother was a Julliard trained soprano opera singer. Even though I was raised around this kind of music it wasn't until later in life that I learned to truly love and appreciate it. Kid rebelling against the parent kind of thing. My mother has been gone for over 20 years, oh how I would love to go to the Opera with her just one more time.

This performance is free of copyright, you don't have to stop it. It's only three minutes long. I'm glad you noticed the orchestra, this is THE largest orchestra I have ever seen. The conductor is Zubin Meta, he is at the top of his profession. Notice the two video screens, they are not for the audience. This orchestra is so large, all the musicians can not see the conductor to follow his instructions. The video screens are for them. The conductor is following Pavarotti's lead and conveying that to the musicians, they have to be able to see him to all stay together. This choir is the largest I have ever seen, they are angelic. Not just Pavarotti, but every one of these musicians is the best of the best.

Trust me: understanding the translation from Italian makes the song so much more impactful. This song moves me on such a metaphysical level, not just because the harmony and the melody work so well; and the music is so beautiful; and not only because Lucianno's voice is so powerful, and his range so perfect for this piece (Although every single one of those aspects create this beautiful masterpiece): It's knowing what the song is about, that transcends the music into poetry and breaks me down and immediately builds me back up, knowing that there was a time when this kind of music was paid for, and respected... and while I would prefer to live in my time now (mostly because I have a rectangle in my pocket from which I can tell time and watch youtube), but I long for the days when poetry and harmony in music was king.

I remember sitting in their living room listening to this and asking to hear it over and over again every time I was at their house until I got hooked on something else they introduced me to. I owe a lot of my musical background and knowledge to them and my parents making sure I knew something other than the current music that was going on at the time.

Hi guys love your reactions! One of the greatest qualities of Pavarotti, of course in addition to his majestic voice and singing skills, was the emotional charge he was adding to any of his performances. He was a very emotional man and everyone who has the change to know him in everyday life knew that he had a prompt laugh and was easy to tears. He was a man full of life, a good man who cared a lot for his family and friends, a generous cheerful soul. I think his personality enhanced his singing talent and made him so unique and unforgettable. It's true that if you connect with opera singing you don't need to understand the words, opera is drama, the charge of emotion is extreme however, he's singing a story, to know what's the singing about magnifies the experience, don't forget the opera singer is also an actor.😊

Italians call it "Il Fumine" you both have been struck by the thunderbolt. Its unexplainable, indescribable, and overwhelming. Its love when it strikes you instantly. Soul comes in different forms. Some expressions of soul can make you cry, some can make you feel victorious, some can make you feel the glory of god. And others are soul destroying, heart wrenching, pure, and powerful. And that is what you just heard.

Y'all should react to his duet with James Brown. I think they sing It's a Man's World together. Of course James Brown sings in English, and Luciano sings in Italian, BUT it works, AND it's phenomenal. Both men literally kill that song together ❤! I got to see Luciano in Dallas years ago. I was gifted the tickets from my boss and his wife who had been unable to attend at the last minute. I started not to go since it was last minute, but I was able to find something appropriate to wear, so I went. It was one of the BEST concerts I've ever attended. I'll never forget it. 🤗💯

This Aria within the story. The story is incredible. A must know. For a male tenor to reach these notes like Pavarotti did.....that is what makes this Aria so beloved and the story unforgettable.

This is so beautiful❤ you never go wrong with the three tenors😊👍 while I was listening to Eminem, Pink and Alannis Morisettte, my parents would listen to opera nonstop - so for me... opera is soothing and just makes me feel good and safe😊

To appreciate Luciano's greatness and talent, I would suggest you look up a performance by The Three Tenors, which consisted of Carreras, Domingo, and Pavarotti...all three were world-class legends, but see if you think one stood out more...in power and tone. You already know who my pick would be for GOAT tenor...

I have heard him sing this song many many times and each time it brings me to tears. I was lucky enough to see and hear him in person, it was magnificent! He left us much too soon.😢

I listen to little opera or classical, but this is my favorite. Another great classical piece is " Lacrimosa " by Mozart. From his Requiem Mass. Not opera, but an outstanding classical piece.

You should check him out when he was younger also - he did a slightly longer version of Nessun Dorma, but was holding his notes a crazy long time in some parts: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5DLfZtqpqikpsk

The beauty is so profund, so moving it's literally as if God himself is singing to us through Pavarotti. And Puccini, who crafted this perfect melody for the Ages well over a hundred years ago....I wonder what he would have thought hearing Pavaroti bring it to life.

I've heard all the old tenor masters sing this. This is the best ever. If God were to speak to us this is what he would sound like..Btw Asia, I watched you the whole aria. You are so darn cute in every way. Your smile, eyes, and laugh are so expressive. Luv you too.
