I'm doing more gardening this year because it's so much fun! Over the past few months I have moved house and started doing some gardening in my new back yard. I've also sowed a load of seeds and planted some fruit trees at my new allotment patch. Hope you enjoy watching this year of gardening videos!

I have some bad news for you, Alex; the easily distracted thing gets worse as you get older. I have an office in my basement, and our kitchen is up the stairs, BUT across the hall is the cursed laundry room, and down the hall another 8 steps in a bathroom. So I am out of coffee, and I leave my desk to go and fill my cup in the kitchen. As I approach the stairs, I can hear that the clothes drier has stopped running, so I grab the clothes out of the dryer and toss them on top, ready to be folded. I move the clothes from the washing machine into the dryer, and then I should be ready to get coffee. So I climbed the stairs to the kitchen and set my cup on the counter. My bladder reminded me it needed to be emptied an hour ago, so I headed to the bathroom. On my way back to the kitchen to get coffee, I notice that the postman has come, so I retrieve the mail and a small package, and I should be ready to grab my coffee and head back to my office. But I decided to open the package and its parts for my microwave. I sort the remainder of the mail into junk and keep piles, toss the junk into the recycle been and notice that it needs to be emptied. Off I go to dump the recycle bin, and after that, I can get my coffee and go back to my office; I come back into the house, grab the keep pile of mail, and head back to my desk. I sit down and reach for my coffee, but it's not there. I forgot it. In the meantime, 45 minutes have elapsed since I began my journey to have some coffee. Please keep doing what you're doing. Your videos help with my chaotic life and more bees, please.

If you'd like a tip to keep the birds from eating a lot of your strawberries: paint some small stones to look like ripe strawberries and lay them in with the plants a little while before the real strawberries begin ripening. That way, the birds will peck at the stones first and basically think "oh these plants have really inedible strawberries", and leave them mostly alone once the actual strawberries grow in. Really love you sharing your gardening and beekeeping journeys with us, keep it up!

@@7sargun I tried it last year, it did work to a certain degree (I found several of the red stones had been moved out of the planters), but some berries were still pecked (should have added a water bowl for the birds, that is supposedly one of the main reason why they peck a tomatoes at least)

I noticed the snail with your strawberries, I had an investation of snails that were desimating them. A farmer told me to plant geraniums between the strawberries and it chased all the snails away. Another idea is to us epsom salt as a fertiliser. This has made some of my plants flourish, and gave me the sweetest tasting strawberries. If you want to experiment with those 2 things. Good luck with the gardens, looking forward to seeing the outcome, as well as seeing the bees.

Your seed poking stick actually has a name, it's called a dibber, and they can trace their origins all the way back to the Romans. They come in various designs including bigger ones for bulbs. Mind you, a standard bamboo stake does just as well for a few seeds. If you're doing loads of seeds you may want a proper one 🙂

A year and a half ago I bought a blueberry bush that was smaller than yours. Last summer it grew massively, producing lots of new branches and it is now around a metre high. And it produced blueberries. You'll most likely have to repot that bush next spring! My bush is in a pot and one day, when I find my forever home, I hope to plant it in a garden and get a few more bushes. Blueberry bushes produce more fruit when there are other blueberry bushes around them.

I recommend you to read more about blueberry growing, the compost is good for 3 months or so but because you water the plant all the time the aciditi washes from the soil not like sweden, because in sweden they have alot of rain all year round so there soil stays acidic. In different from sweden, you need to acidify your soil 3 times a year, iam doing it in march june and september so i reccomend you to do it too... good luck in the garden alex !!!

With acid soil you should be aware how it is made - mostly it is made by digging up peat mosses, which releases a lot of CO2 which of course isn't ideal. You can make it your self, and that might be your next adventure? wood ships, pine trees particular, will help the acidic soil. Really enjoying your journey! Hi! I’ve noticed your slug and snail problem. A simple, inexpensive solution is to sprinkle crumbled eggshells around your plants. This method works best on the ground. If the plants are in pots, they sometimes climb the rim and may eat protruding leaves but will spare the stem. Snails and slugs can’t cross eggshells as it’s painful for them when the jagged edges poke them. The eggshells will soon deteriorate and fertilize your garden while repeling the slugs and snails, and you can just sprinkle more on top of the soil when the eggshells break down.

I am a minimilist. But in the garden I must have ALL the plants!!!! I'm trying to make my garden as edible as possible and aim to add more permanent/perennials each year. This year I have bought blueberries x3 plants (with slightly different flowering times) and x3 cordon pear trees to add to my front flower borders. I'm doing a lot of mixing; layering like a forest (pear trees, blueberry bushes, strawberries as ground cover and flowers in between - borage is supposed to be best with strawberries and are also edible!)

Good on you dude! I have one tip for you about the birds eating strawberries, and forgive me if this has been said lol. I painted some small rocks that were kinda rounded and triangular to look like nice red ripe strawberries a few years ago and after the plants flower but before the berries are ripe I put those rocks out around the plants. In my area, most of the birds are corvids and smart enough to be fooled basically, so they see the 'berries' and go for it only to find that the strawberries in my yard suck! Hard as rocks! lol. Anyway they seem to avoid my berries afterwards. Doesnt work on squirrels or bunnies, but you can reuse the decoy berries year in and year out. YMMV but it works for me here in Seattle.

I am happy that your dad's love of plants has rubbed off on you. It's such a healthy grounding hobby. Usually you need a second different variety of blueberry that blooms at the same time to cross pollenate to get a better crop of blueberries. Happy Gardening!
