This video saved the day! I picked up the DeWalt Knife from my local hardware store (Something shiny - YELLOW!). The afternoon project was a new kitchen floor. I unlocked the secret compartment and affixed the blade as shown. I was thisclose to exchanging the knife for something a bit simpler. Thank you!

Start at 1:06. Even with all these instructions, it still took us about 10 tries to get the blade secured in place and retracting all the way. We used a screwdriver to press on the side-release button. The heavy-duty slide mechanism requires more force than you would expect.

I've had nothing but problems with my DeWalt utility knife. Then, when I look online I discover the many models of DeWalt utility knives have problems. Note the words "many models." I don't own any DeWalt power tools. I'm worried if they can't get the knife part right I can't trust them to provide me with powered equipment.
