Here is our big pig problem. It is a big pig problem because it has to do with the big pigs, and it's a big, pig, problem. But it applies to all the pigs. Got that?

@@robinstuyvesant7187 We used to have a whole country of small farms run by people like Pete. For many economic reasons the small farms were put out of business, and one big reason was government policies that made it difficult if not impossible to continue. I grew up on just such a place.

I heard a song from the 70's the other day and thought, "Boy, how times have changed". That song? "Love is in the air, everywhere you look around". Today's version? Happy Anniversary Pete& Hillary! I stopped uploading, or going out of my way to upload and keep my channel going. The social side of things really became too much. Internal family jealous lead to family feeding, my uncles and their wives thought I was being favored by my grandparents and they were missing out. Meanwhile I was just taking care of my elderly grandparents, my grandfather had cancer. Naturally there was some benefits to being in their home everyday and keeping the farm running for them. The other part was viewers. A small percentage for some reason always seem to be angry, and it was incredibly hard to keep my mental health in proper order. It ended up taking me a few years to be back on track, and the person I need to be for my wife and children. Part of that healing process has been to not continue growing my channel. Stay healthy, that is more important than a KZbin channel.

Congradulations Pete & Hillary on hitting 27 years. My wife and I just celebrated our 51st anniversary, having missed 50 due to the world's health crisis. I also share your outlook on trying to find common ground, an important attribute. I spent 36 years as a civil servant managing opeartions and the people who work to keep things running and safe for employees and the public. A necessary factor when opinions and politics differ. Now retired I find solice working on restoring my old cars and scratching in the soil. Partially eliminating my exposure to some of the craziness in our world. Enjoy your content

I totally agree with your opinion on the downside of social media Pete. It’s such a brilliant forum which can do so much good, I live in England you live in America. A few years ago it would have been impossible for me to sit and watch your day to day experiences. It makes the world seem so much smaller. From the daily news, to areas of social media, we are bombarded with sensationalism, exaggeration, and doom and gloom. Watching channels like yours, reminds me there are still good honest people out there in our world, just living ordinary caring lives like me. Keep the videos coming Pete.

Happy Anniversary! We're at 26 ourselves. As to skidsteers etc, we've decided that the only way we can farm later in life is to make everything on the farm accessible by equipment. As I build and replace sheds and infrastructure I'm designing it around a skid steer or tractor. I've already got shoulder issues, so for us it works to change slightly to accommodate making farming possible around limitations we're facing. As to the other channel, guess I "missed" it, but whoever it was and whatever their issue is I'm glad I didn't partake. Thank your for all your sound advice.

I’m in my early 30’s and have been doing the same thing. Do all of the chores on my own, already have a bum shoulder and back from auto racing accidents, and am building for when I’m in my 60’s without having to redesign stuff. I started off buying round bales and rolling them out of the bed of my pickup onto the ground and putting the feeder around them. Skid steer was the single best investment I’ve made.

@@rustyrelicsfarm2406 absolutely! I had a 460 with a loader prior to my skid steer. It worked great for the buildings I’ve put up, but was a tight squeeze in the preexisting buildings. I was able to sell it and get an older, one owner Case 1835 for pretty much nothing out of pocket so I’m happy!

Pete, my wife and I just bought a home and some acreage. The home is old and the land needs work. We probably paid too much for it and it feels like we have mountain to climb and descend before we are close to where we want to be. We had agreed on terms verbally this summer but didn't have anything on paper. I almost asked my wife about backing out. After a bad personal experience at a place this summer, those feelings only grew stronger. I started watching every single one of your videos after that. Your videos helped bring me out of a dark place where I felt unworthy of this opportunity. In a community and platform like KZbin, it is so easy to get caught up in fighting and where we disagree. You do such a wonderful job of staying measured and, more importantly, staying true to what you believe.

My experience with Tamworths dates back through the 1950’s when their offspring were often used for farrowing in the pastures or in the woods where they were very aggressive in protecting their piglets from predators. But that carried over to be a problem when handling them in confined areas. Be careful.

Happy anniversary to the 2 of you. Im an old combat vet that moved back home to the farm after 24 years of service. I can relate to what you were saying about how society is going now days. All I can say is hang in there and focus on the good things around you like family, friends and just pass all the bad stuff by. Its not worth our time or energy for things you cant change

And older friend of mine always says. (He has his faith and everything going on around him is just noise.) Always in a good mood and doesn't let this world's issues get him down. He has a Peace in him that almost glows. Hope I find that peace some day. And you all as well. God Bless.

You hit the nail on the head Pete! It's not 1942 anymore (except for tractors ), and I dislike seeing those memes about "My hands are dirty so her hands are clean" pictures. My wife and I work hard cleaning out our goat sheds, nothing like a little sweat, blood and tears to bring yourselves closer together. The change of the season always knocks us down and you're correct, social media can be toxic. Happy anniversary, my wife and I just celebrated our 7th! We are both happy to see your sense of community and every time we see you at market it's always enjoyable!

I hope you’re doing well Pete. Your videos, in part, have inspired me to study biodynamic agriculture when I finish high school next year. I hope you keep up the good work!

My grandfather was a small farmer, farming on shares and raising six children in Indiana. He was 50 years old when I (his first grandchild) was born and I new him for 36 years. I spent a lot of time with him and worked alongside him whenever I could. I never saw him angry. Never mad at an animal, nor a piece of equipment, nor another human being, the weather or his lot. He never had a harsh word for me, even if I deserved it. I've often reflected on his life and I'm sure it was his patience and humility that gained him love and respect. He's gone now 36 years but he's not really.

Happy Anniversary to you both! Your love for each other comes through in your videos. I totally agree that the less TV and Social Media you watch, the happier you will be. Your channel is a breath of fresh air and a place to go to relax and reconnect with the real things in life.
