I had a symphony orchestra audition today, and I was only given 2 weeks to learn the music and I did but it was an interesting audition. It was a blind audition which was pretty cool and I didn't know that existed, but on the way out of the audition room I tripped and made a pretty loud racket XD. I was so embarrassed even though they couldn't see, they probably heard it.

You should do a testing a cheap flute video like a 70$ flute on amazon or eBay or something like that! Ilysm
@markgaddie62908 жыл бұрын
I believe that would be a good video but I don't think Joanna wants to waste money on a $70 flute that probably won't play. But I did buy a piccolo off of eBay for $66.99 and it played fine. The shame.😆😆😆
@calvincummisky35298 жыл бұрын
+Mark Gaddie yeah it would be a really good video I think!

I bought a used $70 Armstrong flute off eBay for marching band. The seller claimed it was fully working so I bought it. When I got it, it didn't work and the seller gave me a partial refund of $30, which was the same as the repair cost. It plays great. I had a few friends do blind listening tests and they can't tell the difference between the Armstrong my $3000 Altus.

Is there anything specific about tone/technique/warming-up you were wondering about? Those are huge topics! :)
@emmaletham65148 жыл бұрын
+JustAnotherFlutist I don't really have any specific idea... but I'm looking for warmups to feel less stiff when I start practicing repertoire and excercises to help with tone clarity etc. Oh, and something to "cure" my lazy tongue? :D :)

Ahh this makes me miss my freshman year and the kind of structure I had. I would practice in the morning on days I had a break in between classes, then I would practice after all my classes ended in the afternoon. then I would do some homework if I had enough time, would take a nice dinner break, then would go back to my room and relax and do homework if I needed too. ahhhh. STRUCTURE. I need structure back
@JustAnotherFlutist8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I find I have to make my own structure these days, but no one day is like the other! Maybe I should make a video about that one day...

Can you please make a video on adjusting to different playing styles? (If Johanna's done this already, can someone link me to it?) my teacher tells me that I'm a very strong Baroque, technique and scales+variation, musician, however, I struggle to play Romantic music or music that expects the musician to play with a freer sound. We had to play the Daphnis et Chloe and Afternoon of A Faun excerpts this semester, and I could play the passages accurately; but I severely failed to play freely and capture the styles of these solos. I just convinced my teacher to let me start Griffes' Poem so I want to show her that I can play with some Romantic style, or at least get started in the right direction. I feel like I don't understand the world of Romantic playing at all ._. please help!!!

heheagain so on the application it says u have to be experienced at least 1 year with the flute would it count if i was getting taught how to play in my middle school????
@JustAnotherFlutist8 жыл бұрын
Well, you have to have played for at least 1 year total. It's difficult to teach extreme beginner techniques over FaceTime!

Could you possibly make a video about playing two instruments at the same time. Meaning taking flute lessons and piano lessons, or in my case viola and piano lessons. I know you said you did flute and piano so I was wondering if you could give some advice on how to not feel so bad about being able to play 2 instruments. I feel like people think I'm stuck up because I can play 2 instruments very well. In my opinion I'm not that good, but every time I go somewhere to preform and I have to play both instruments people think I'm a show off.... what do I do? from Dequan
@JustAnotherFlutist8 жыл бұрын
Wow, good idea. I didn't have much of this problem because I didn't tell very many people I played 2 instruments. :P But I can definitely talk about the struggles of practicing both at high levels. Is that something you'd be interested in?

I've tried them in one of my flute festival vlogs (my first Seattle one, I think)! Go there to see how it sounds when I play it! Always remember that no two flutists will ever sound exactly the same on any given flute ;)

Hey hey hey so I was wondering how I can get more gigs around town? I've played in a few ensembles in my town but i'd like to do more solo or small chamber performing to get my name out there. Any tips on getting out there? Thanks! :)
@JustAnotherFlutist8 жыл бұрын
A lot of solo/chamber performances are pretty much done in 2 ways: 1) You arrange it yourself, 2) You get involved in an organization that arranges concerts for you. I can talk about it more sometime. :)

Have u done a video on triple tonguing already because my music teacher wants just me to learn it for my flute section but I'm like is it really that necessary to learn
@JustAnotherFlutist8 жыл бұрын
Nope, but it's very close to double tonguing. Yes, it IS absolutely necessary to learn because you'll need it for fast triplets that are tongued. There are actually two ways of triple tonging: TKT TKT, and TKT KTK. The first one repeats the forward tongue, and it's thus easier to keep track of where you are in the beat, BUT it's slower because you're striking your tongue forward twice. The 2nd one is faster because you don't do that extra strike, but it's easier to get lost in where you are in the beat. Ideally, you learn both so you can switch between them. I can talk about it more sometime. :)

Hey! So i have this weird thing where if I've worked hard at something and I know it sounds pretty good or Ive just played a section that sounds good in my lesson then I suddenly get nervous and it puts me off for the rest of the piece. :L do you know what i mean..? haha
@JustAnotherFlutist8 жыл бұрын
+Ben Bben Nervous energy is annoying at first but it can be trained to be used as fuel for extremely expressive performing! I talked a bit about it, I think, in my "Do's and Don'ts of Dealing with Nerves" video, but this is definitely something I can talk more about in the future!

In all seriousness, I'm still making my way through trying all the champions and figuring out which champion I naturally play well. Also, this is the first game I've ever played that uses these mechanics (never played DOTA or other similar games prior to LoL), so I still do silly things like aim my skill shots backwards and stuff like that... But learning has been fun, thanks to the patience of my boyfriend and my friends who have all been training me!
