The choice to leave so much space open on the bottom of the shoe is interesting. I'm running in the Timp 5 now (my first zero drop), which was released a few months ago. It does not have that "canyon" in the tread as the AO6 does. Maybe (I could be wrong here) it's because the AO6 is the widest fit of the Altra train run lineup (the original fit) and the Timp 5 is slim fit (with a decently wide toe box...more space than my dearly departed Ultra Glyde 2 wide). Anyway, great vid. Thanks for posting.

I've got the AO6 and for me, I have a problem with this spot in the back... my heel slips and I have to tighten the lacing which after a few kilometers is not comfortable. So we'll see with time, but I think I also have to find the right socks for these. (I also ride with my Superior (still the 4), wider, lighter but no heel hold problem).

I had the same issue with the Mont Blanc and this was resolved by removing the insole. I have recently picked up the AO6 cheap and again the same slippage issue. I have resolved the issue by using the removed insole and inserting the insole from the prior Mont Blanc. 🤔Looking forward to the Olympus 275. Hopefully, this will overcome the issues I have had with both the Mont Blanc and the AO6.

5:10 i dont know why Altra in this current iteration and finally out version 6 chose to forgoe a protrection plate sandwiched in the midsole and actually make that contract like most supershoes have. A carbon plate that propels runners forward while protecting against unknown terrain ahead should have been prioritized by the design team and top brass at Altra so that the EVA doesnt get punctured

Do you think it is overkill to wear Olympus 6 as a city walker? VIA Olympus 2 and Olympus 6 are essentially the same shoe with the same original widest width (fit), and max cushion but I like the Vibram outsole for grip and durability. How noticeable does the 'spike' on the sole feel when you walk? Does it make a lot of noise?
@JustAnotherRunner
@JustAnotherRunner Ай бұрын
I would say it is overkill but that doesn't mean you wouldn't like it. I don't think it has as good of a roll as some other shoes. it kindof slaps as you walk.

A wide toe box doesn't necessarily mean a wide shoe but in all this case the heel is extremely wide as well.

I’ve run in Altras since the beginning of time. I don’t wear them if I’m doing a lot of scrambling or ridge running but they are my daily go to shoe. I just got the new Olympus and ran the second half of Wasatch on Saturday. I thought they were really great until we got a healthy rain which turned the trails to crap (so slippery). Not sure if another shoe would have done better but I couldn’t stay on my feet it was that bad.

I wonder if the EVA caused the sole to be super slippery...? I haven't had any issues with traction but I haven't run in those conditions yet. Did you feel the weight of the shoe was a big deal for you?

The average shoe price does seem to have increased. Perhaps that's due to other increased costs but could also be to higher expectations from our shoes (resulting in higher price). The Olympus 6 is a heavier shoe, and like you said, they don't feel clunky but I worry about excess foot/leg fatigue after MANY miles ran. I mentioned something similar in my review video, but also agree that more rubber would be a good thing but not at the expense of weight. Overall, I think the Olympus is a solid trail shoe offering but not the first shoe that I think to grab when going for a trail run. Great feedback!

@@iancook1387 Topo MTN Racer 3 and the Salomon Genesis are both great offerings. I've also really enjoyed the VJ MAXx2 and La Sportviva Prodigio. If you're looking for a zero job, the Topo Pursuit 2 is great too.

I ran Trabuco 11 and Olympus 5, weight is difference I would say, even O6 should weight more :( grip / traction is great in both, better lateral stability in Olympus on the other side, I had issue in Olympus as I kick my ankles sometimes over the time, well, during 10h+ ultra, it's not comfortable, maybe would compare with 6. On the other side, I don't find weight as issue even during long runs, but probably the case I wouldn't buy again, doesn't make sense for shorter / daily runs. More dust and so on get into Olympus 5, had to clean up during race rather than risk possible blisters later.. even though, no pain, blisters, small issue with ankle after 70k but probably because of zero drop, too much for me even running quite a lot + LP model. Overally Altras fit is great, no probs with tongue, laces or similar.

It's a bit off-white. And they stayed relatively good looking even after 100 miles IMO. The shoe I'm holding in the review is after 100 miles and it still looks white-ish...
