JustFlight Avro Vulcan in MSFS | Flying the Legendary XH558 | First Look and Impression

Join me live in a preview build of the upcoming JustFlight Avro Vulcan!
We’ll be flying VFR from XH558’s old base in Doncaster Sheffield (EGCN) to RAF Lossiemouth (EGQS). We’ll be utilising VOR’s along the route but taking in some fantastic sights as we route North West Initially to Lancaster and then North over Lake Windemere and the Lake District to Edinburgh.
We’ll then head Northwest again to Ben Nevis and Loch Ness before heading to one of the Vulcan old bases at RAF Lossiemouth.

I saw a Vulcan fly at Woodford in the 90s. The noise was immense, you could feel it in your very soul. I was lucky enough to play about in the cockpit as a kid, Blackpool airport had one on display, i was surprised how cramped the internal space was compared to the vast size of this beast.

Yes, to my home town Carlisle getting a mention around 53:58. Carlisle Airport has a static Vulcan (XJ823) at the Solway Aviation Museum.

To answer an earlier comment, the primary navigation system was the H2S radar. The Nav Rad did the fixing, and terrain avoidance when the Vs went low level, and the Nav Plotter then navigated using the Doppler-based navigation computer.

I saw her fly at Finningley Airshow, she turned and the noise and vibration was awesome. They still have one that flies. It relies on donations to keep it flying.

Sadly last flew in 2015, the technical authorities decided to end support (Marshall Aerospace, Rolls royce, Airbus) and without that support, the CAA wouldnt give her the licence to continue to fly in the UK. Very sad because this plane is legendary , along with her display pilots.

Kev Rumens would roll 558 to 135 degrees. The same as he would do in a Tornado. Bill would has also flown BBMF Lancaster and with the Red Arrows.

Noted your comment about fuel usage, bear in mind you are at low level and static 100% rpm would give a fuel burn of 13950 gallons per hour per engine . . .

Yeah, balanced rather than adjusted - it was too little low down but too much at high level. Should now be in the zone, depending how precise you are with your rpm . . . @@flightdeck2sim

You used MSFS many times now on streams without any CTD. Now all the sudden. What changed? You used the JustFlight Avro Vulcan. My logic tells me that the Vulcan is the culprit.

An aircraft shouldn't be able to crash the underlying sim. If it can, the underlying sim is faulty.

@@hjr2000 But it can. If something is not compiled correctly it will crash the sim. Especially if a texture file is faulty. The same for faulty scenery files.

I have noticed the last few weeks an increase in random MSFS crashes but you’re quite right, not had that many in one stream before and I’m flying a new aircraft! Someone suggested that it could have something to do with the 8k textures in the cockpit. The preview build only shipped with 8k (there is a 4K version with the final build) and that might have caused issues with shortages of VRAM and that might manifest itself when switching between inside/outside views/panning around the cockpit. We are investigating this now but suspect it's a VRAM issue due to a combination of the 8K textures and live streaming. We already have 4K cockpit textures available on the support page and will see if further optimisation is required, but worth noting that this issue isn't widespread at the moment. @@flightdeck2simThat's unfortunate. For me the sim is very stable. I just complete the Vatsim World Tour on my own with no crashes. To be honest I can't remember the last time the sim CTD on me.

Yes I don't claim to be any expert in flying the Vulcan hence my disclaimer at the start of the stream! I read there in-development feed on the JF website. Very cool they had access to XM655. I guess they recorded the 201's/howl from another Vulcan? FD2S
