My quilt crew has been talking about their potato ship blocks. So I decided to see how many quilt patterns I could make using this block. I really enjoyed this one. It came together so fast and easy and with no seams to match up, it was pretty low stress too. Enjoy!!!

I love your potato chip variations. One thing I tried with this block, was to change the size of the chips, which makes a quilt much quicker. As long as the length is twice as long as the width, the blocks go together the same way. I cut 10.5" x 5.5" chips from a fat quarter bundle and got a 67" x 75" quilt top. Cut and sewn in a single day. I love this block and plan on making lots more with regular and large chips.

When I want to put 12 inch blocks together for a relaxing sewing evening, potato chip blocks are the way to go. I finally had to start sewing the blocks together to make quilt tops for my quilt guild. Also use 2 by 3.5 inch chips. Great for smaller scraps. Thank you, Karen!

For my father's 70th birthday this year I used the potato chip block for a quilt, the center block was plain white fabric my nieces and nephew painted with fabric paint and we all chose different fabric for the chips. 9x9 blocks with thin sashing so I didn't have to nest seams or worry about fabric matching. His birthday is at the end of the month. I did make the chips bigger but it was easy enough to do.

OH HAPPY DAYS ! have been hoping you were coming up with another Stashbuster. Then felt guilty wondering where you would have found time to do😂 so. Your schedule is already jammed packed. I recently spent a weekend organizing my stash. It’s going to pay off now. The best part your quilt is easy to make, being a beginner I like a no stress sewing. Thank you so much. I sure appreciate you!

Thanks Karen for sharing another wonderful and educational video! I’m here wishing I had this beautiful fabric collection. It looks like Moda Basic Grey Cider Collection is in there. I love how all the colors are so harmonious and fun! It turned out so wonderful! I’m a new quilter and having fun with small quilting projects to build my confidence and knowledge. I don’t have a lot of storage space so I’m enjoying making things as gifts. This is a great quilting choice! 🥳🤩

I have had fun with this block. Just finished my fourth variation. 3 have large floral 8.5" squares in the center and two layers of chips to finish at 16" square. The inner layer colour matched the flowers and the outer layer was green for the leaves. Then I tried half colour half light. Now I have another size in my scrap stash!

I started watching you in the very beginnings of your channel. At that time I was a new quilter, in another country and a long distance relationship. The years have passed and I'm now in Canada, married and more experienced in my quilting journey. And yet: for the last month I've been returning to your organisational videos as I set up my space in our house. This last weekend was spent organising my stash (for the first time ever!!) AND processing Mt. Scrapmore. As I sorted I found that pile of "too big to be a scrap, but too small for much else" and thought...I wonder if Karen can tell me what to do with that? This video is the answer. If you ever find yourself in the Maritimes we'd love to have you stay. Love and best wishes from PEI.

Thanks Karen, definitely one to use up some of my scraps. I’ve seen many quilts like this but could never quite work out how they went together. I noticed you were wearing some kind of WRIST SUPPORT, could you share a link please. Thanks, Vonney x

Hi Karen, Happy Thanksgiving! I love your new background. Very pretty. Especially the thread cones in your colors. Thanks for a potato chip video. I'm collecting greens & purples for a potato chip quilt & you've given me some good tips & tricks...as always. Bless you. Love your content.

I love how you hung up your rows of chips on the wall board. I’ve seen these before but never asked. How is that wall board made?

Great quilt and such a good way to use up leftovers. I have a random question. How do you stick your sheet (if that's what it is) to the wall to make a design board? I usually use the spare bed but I'm embarking on a Postcards quilt and I think a design wall will be essential for that. I have some felt (72 inches square) but I can't work out how to stick it up that will be sturdy but temporary.

Lol! I just made a potato chip quilt and I'm not enchanted, I wish I'd been able to see your video first! It is a baby quilt though, so spit up won't matter, LOL!

Uncut strips can be used at intervals for contrast as you’ve done with dark/light. Solids can be used to make a round, to contrast with busy prints for example.

Once the strip of fabric that tells you the name of fabric is gone how do you tell what is the straight of grain on the fabric? Thank you.
@JustGetitDoneQuilts
@JustGetitDoneQuilts 11 сағат бұрын
Just give it a gentle pull. There should be very little stretch on the straight of grain. Compare it to a similar fabric with the selvage still on if you are unsure

Thanks for sharing this. I have made a couple of quilt tops for charity quilts using the potato chip technique but I am stuck deciding on the quilting design. I don't do fancy free motion quilting as I usually do straight line with my walking foot or hand quilt them. Any ideas?

Thanks I'm going to try this. I can cut my 2.5' strips with my AccuQuilt strip cutter and save so much hand cutting.

I purchased a 2.5 by 4.5 die from Accuquilt. Love it for scraps.
