I really hate when people say they thought Society of Magical Negros was gonna be a Black Harry Potter. The plot is in the title.

And thats the problem they shouldnt have to make a "black version" just a ORIGINAL movie with characters who happen to be black

Got here by mistake..don't agree with everything this young man said but it was very eye opening and mind searching. May be ask myself why?

Does he mention Nic Ashe at any point? I hear he reveals they are engaged, but I havent caught that part

He totally missong the point of why there was so much backlash to that movie that 1 should have never even been greenlit based on the name alone. Lets start there

Enjoyed this interview and his perspective. Very interesting and mind opening. hopefully as the world becomes less white or more specifically America becomes less white we will have less racism. It won’t happen in my lifetime, but I hope it happens sooner rather than later.
@charissac1186 ай бұрын
dude, racism is in every country. It is not just a white issue. Tribes hate each other due to their location, their bloodlines, their skin color. People are hated for their religion. People are hated all over the world for whatever reason they deem desired. It isn't a white thing, it's a global thing.

In the landscape of film I feel left out as there aren't any films that lean to any sort of narrative told from "our" pov that I'm familiar with. So I don't participate in the medium!!!

Who likes being renamed? My name is Christopher. Not Chris, not C, not Chrissy…. Christopher. I hate it when any color or shade of people try to rename me.

it's not a rename it's a nickname. A rename would be calling you Daniel.

If you’re treated as black you’re black. It’s out of your control and justice is black in America
@Acts2_266 ай бұрын
Sooooo....it seems I'm the minority view but I enjoyed American Society in the theater. It educated me and helped me have a deeper degree of empathy for certain aspects of the black experience in America and helped me get my white blinders off. I also laughed at funny moments and thought the love story was sweet and believable. I think people of color or otherwise are just unwilling to be stretched out of their own point of view and find empathy for others whose experience may be different from their own.
