I'll admit, I was shocked that Boyd killed Dewey. I figured he'd be one to survive. The fact that Dewey got killed and Dickie didn't is wild

Dewey had to die. He lost control and was getting worse. I'm surprised Boyd gave Dewey one more chance after what his cousins did. . Boyd fulfilled Dewey's dream. He was happiest owning the brothel.

As much as I enjoyed watching Boyd in action, this scene felt like he'd finally gone so far that he was gone completely. A truly bitter end for one of the series most memorable characters. And storytelling that sticks with you.

@@philhopper3642 Boyd was always a charming sociopathic POS. The last series just makes sure that the audience absolutely knows it. When he murders that unconnected innocent dude thats the end of the road, naratively speaking.

But he did it quickly and unexpectedly. Boyd solved a problem, but with mercy. Dewey would have ended Boyd if he had been allowed to leave.

I think because his character was often the comic foil, his performance is often overlooked among this amazing ensemble, but he's right up there with the rest of them.

The one thing that most of the characters in the series underestimated about Boyd, except Ada, was: the moment he believed in something, his resolved was without question. Even Rylan battled with fully believing, until the end of the series--that Boyd would be so steadfast in anything, let alone even his own survival, to become the sheer force of will, for which, Boyd ended up being. And what’s on full display here is, when Boyd’s steadfast resolve and determination to live as an outlaw, is brought to its peak, and terrible limits-- and Dewey paid the price.

That was one of the most cold blooded killings in the whole series. All they had been through together, Dewey doing everything Boyd told him to do, Boyd shoots him in the back of the head, gives his orders, and leaves like he just squashed a bug.

Dewey wanting things to be like they were was an immature desire that he had let develop to the point that he did what no man should ever do, speak of it. It's childish, the past can and will only be in the past, for better or worse, there is no going back home. His thinking is irreversibly compromised. There is no walking the stated sentiment back, in many ways Boyd gave Dewey a merciful exit. Painless, immediate, and totally unexpected. No longer would Dewey be depressed and longing for something that can never be.

In the situation on the show (or in the line of criminal “work”), yeah, that’s probably a dangerous way of thinking. For us regular folk, not so much. True, it can’t be the same again, as life does go on, and people change. But some of us are fortunate to have a person or people that we can open up to about wanting the glory days back. We can reminisce and acknowledge a good time in life, and that shared acknowledgement and reminder of that time can sometimes LITERALLY be a lifesaver. Speaking from experience on that last part, btw. That shared recollection of the good times reminds us that while we’re alive, there is the potential to have more good times in the future.

@eyeofbrown1387 You are absolutely right of course. My observation is only relevant within the very narrow parameters stated. The ways that civilized and honest people interact and relate with one another is completely different from what outlaws can and will do. The adage, "Trust no one" , only applies to outlaw and political living. Best of health and fortunes to you and yours.
